One thing I love about Nocturne (and DDS) is how FAST the random battles are. Even if you manually cast a bunch of spells and buffs.

Every character just does their thing super fast and it's your next turn again.
I especially miss this during Pokemon horde battles. Every goddamn move takes forever.

I've played 1, 2 & 3 so far. haven't played 4. Though i have to say BoF games seem hit or miss for me. They have some interesting elements but tend to drag and become realy tedious with unfocused plotlines

I really like Xenoblade Chronicles. the combat is kinda shit but the story, music, and world all make up for it.

combat is just very slow at the beginning. towards the end when you can string more attacks together, use more Monado arts, and use chain attacks more often it's way more fun.

There's a certain snappiness to combat.
Especially the bitch-slap that DemiFiend does when you select regular attack, it has a good SFX and everything.
On top of that the enemies can bribe you, join you whether you want them or not, give you a gift for proving your strength, etc.

The Press Turn system is really goddamn good.
I'm playing Strange Journey right now and while I love the first person dungeon crawling and better negotiations, the alignments being required for weakness-exploitation is kinda lame.

Also I like the music but Nocturne's and what I've heard of IV's completely blow it out of the water.

I just finished my third playtrough of SMT 1 (got all the endings) and i just started playing soul hackers.
1) the fights are fast in both titles.
2) i fucking WISH soul hackers had more random encounters so i wouldn't be out of magnetite every single time.
3) Also no game has a random encounter rate worse than SMT 1. Really it's horrifying.

Why would you do that though?You should only be recruiting the demons in your area,there's no reason to go to other areas to recruit them unless you want max compendium

They're similar in many aspects, like demon negotiating/recruiting, 1st person dungeon crawling (but no press turn system or allignments) and has some similar ideas with demonic imagery and was of Satan against God, though obviously later installments everything is more expanded and refined. The first Mergami Tensei is actually a little simplistic (and archaic) both in gameplay and especially narrative by today's standards but quite unique for its time. The second one intorduced more post apocalyptic elements and stuff that were later better explored in the Shin games.
