The boss is relatively tame now, but he doesn't use his left hand yet. Plus with two spare batteries, you can afford to spam moves. Should be a bit harder in the actual game, but still fairly easy... he's just the first guy, after all!

I would like to briefly outline an idea for a level for a Yume Nikki Vivian game. The theme of the level is tumblr.

Imagine, from a bird's eye perspective a grid 100 units by 100 units. In each square of this grid is an X. That x represents a tumblr post.

When you look at the grid normally, it seems impassable. So, you put on your "#feminism" goggles and suddenly you can only see 'posts' with that tag. You realize that was used to be an impassable grid is now a maze with several paths. To travel through the maze you must change vision several times to reveal hidden paths.

Halfway through the maze, you find a "#video games" pair of goggles. When you put it on, the entire maze disappears and you can walk straight to the center.

It's a side effect of the walls object moving around - his arm can be stood on when he punches, so you can run up and ORAORAORA him in the face.

There'll actually be a special finishing animation for doing this.

Special animation sounds hype. It should take inspiration from the /v/-tan comics. Being the daugher, it'd make sense to have those CUHRAZY moves.

Also, are you considering mobility upgrades? Like unlocking mmx-style dash shoes, or a wall jump upgrade? I'd say double jump, but the jumping already works so well, I don't want to have it ruined.

Thanks, I worked really hard on getting the hook to feel fast and satisfying to use - messed around with a bunch of different levels of speed and momentum. I think I got it about right.
Then I had to dick around for even longer trying to stop her getting stuck inside walls when using it. Fingers crossed.

>Mobility upgrades
Yes - she'll definitely get SOME kind of speed upgrade, though I'm not sure what form it'll take just yet. One idea I was thinking of was a shoe upgrade that allowed you to dash, and also stomp enemies Mario-style... but Vivian wearing shoes seems very unnatural.

Another possibility is "overclock" where she moves at double speed and is invincible but burns battery life constantly while in use.

As for feedback and ideas, whatever you can give me! There's been a lot of GREAT idea brainstorming here. Part of why I still keep trying to get input from these threads, even when they keep getting derailed. Anything you'd like to see in the game, let me know! I can't promise to put EVERYTHING in, but I'll try.

Thanks to everyone who posted bug reports, too. It all helps the game get better, bit by bit.

That's great to hear about the dashing possibility. I feel like a megaman and metroid fusion works best here. The mario shoes does indeed sound weird. It'd work if you plan to keep the redditbots as they are, where they only hurt if you touch them. If not, have them shooting, forcing the player to duck. And perhaps have another enemy blocking a corridor shooting a huge lazer like the shoop, whereupon you have to hook onto something above him and wiimote fire/toss grenades or something to get rid of him.

And I suppose enemies will be dropping batteries? How will you heal? Will there be comfy inns, or health stations? Will there be collectibles? Costumes perhaps?
Will there be secrets among the walls, like invisible rooms ala yoshi's island, wario land, etc. Bonus rooms like DKC2?

Maybe she can change according to the themed levels she visits? Snow level, she's got a comfy sweater and scarf. Halloween level, she's cosplayin' darkstalkers. Then you throw in her paper mario version for a short puzzle segment, or have her in ryu's clothes for a short street fighter minigame where you beat up said reddit oc.
