When I was a young teen...

A browser MMO in 2010 featuring only deast races, and set in a Camelot made entirely of creatures. Dogs cats birds bears squirrels maybe, mostly woodland creatures. No idea what the name was, but the quests were suprisingly not bugged to fuck, my class was balanced enough for the 3 days i played it, and the scenery was quite good. No idea what its called, but i remember hearing it shut down. Think i first saw it linked on /v/

I've played a shitload of random MMOs from MMO lists on random websites when I was younger. Played some certified, grade-A SHIT.

Let me tell you about RoM

I went and leveled as a knight/mage, the literal shittiest class in the game. I got to just below raid tier back when TT was the best dungeon. I swapped to knight/ranger and became a king tank. I got geared and raided well into that firelands place as the MT for my guild.

Let me tell you about RoM.

First off, new raid released? 50 bucks or you aren't keeping up. Flat out. New expansion? 50 more. The amount of money you'd need to spend on clean stones was fucking atrocious. Drop rates were horrible and for the longest time, back when you had... uh... the waves one, with medusa? Before a big patch you fucking had to keep those pay2win mana pots on you because knights seals sucked ass.

They nickled and dimed so hard that it made my head spin

Best fucking class in the game, almost TOO OP in some cases (Knight + cleric) and their answer to balance rape was to give them low mana pools and super high costs.

Was definitely a great step towards the right direction for a sandbox mmo. Probably the best way I've seen it done since ultima online.

Unfortunately it was made by two guys in a shack in sweden, so it was severely lacking in content. And had a few balance issues. And although I understand it was the intent, there were way too little penalties for being a griefing outlaw.

Still, I was part of the /vg/ guild when we were building our guild house and whatnot. Was one of the best adventures I've ever had with /vg/

Knight/priest hit with so little power it was basically worthless. Knight/mage had some really neat aoe and anti-hit (shocked enemies on strike) but it just didn't generate aggro

knight/ranger or whatever it was had like 4 pure aggro skills and tons of aoe.

I was king for a while man. One of the top tanks on my server. Guildless, people called on me and 2 other dudes to go raiding all the time.

I was just about to post something about DOMO. Glad to know it's still remembered by some other folks.

I loved the hell out of this game. I played with a lot of random English players I met online in the Japanese version, then migrated to the global version when it came out. I think the artstyle had a lot to do with it, as I love cel-shading.

You could also fly, which at the time wasn't very common in MMOs.

It was terribly luck based, and it prevented god-tier items from flooding the market, while making the great stuff pretty famous.

They 'fixed' this game, which is what caused me to stop playing.

It used to be that you could level up your 'skill level' mostly independently of your 'character level' by fighting very low-level enemies while unarmed. What that means is that you were able to get skills and upgrades for your character that were intended to be unlocked at a much higher character level. So you could be level 7 or 8, and have the health, mana, and skills of a level 100+ character.

I'm actually surprised this game has survived almost 20 years, with all the botting, the pvp now being pretty much a potion chugging contest instead of being actually fun and bots everywhere, hell, some servers are ruled by them and turned into botters goldmines (Trimera and Ocera)

MUDs really are superior to MMOs in almost every regard save controls. I think this one would be the best one I've played. It's not my favourite, but it's the biggest one out of my favourites. I prefer the mechanics of some other MUDs (Shadows of Isildur, AtonementRPI/ParallelRPI, the cyberpunk one), but it's not much off a game when you know every player personally.
