>"What's the matter kid? I work alone, I don't need you tagging along. The only ally I need, is darkness!"
Such great writing, what's not to like?
He never says anything about darkness. He basically said he doesn't give a shit and calls out multiple other characters on how petty they are, including two goddesses and Medusa. If you want a character who would actually say that google Riku from KH
He's basically Pit's suppressed emotions.
It means that while pit enjoys the adoration of Palutena and the justice that being the captain of the guard brings, he still second guesses everything, even if just a little.
Dark Pit is literally showing an extra depth of character that Pit now has.
Who is a bigger faggot; OP? or
someone who is legitimately angry over a fucking nintendo game made for kids and complains about it on an anonymous imageboard from his parents house because he is an asspained asspergered babby
"blackcolored palette swap with "dark" followed by a name"
Nah, the terms are pretty fucking clear. But I'm sure all of those OC characters on deviant art have depth and appealing personalities too, once you get to know them.
>People dissing a legitimately good character they have never seen before some fake smash leak comes about because 'm-muh character slot' without actually playing the game he originates from.
>legitimately good character
>he's a dark clone of the hero, and looks exactly like him except for his hair and wings being black, and slightly different clothing
That's the definition of a legitimately good character these days?
I wouldn't really call him a parody. He's really more of a subversion of the whole "evil clone" thing. He ends up being the most reasonable character in the game, and becomes straight up bro-tier by the end.
That's what they wanted you to think, but in reality dark pit originated as a literal palette swap in Brawl, before any characterization or personality was drafted.
That and "Dark X" is literally nintendo's idea of "badass"
>shadow mirror kirby
You do realize Pittoo is a parody of Nintendo's hamfisted attempts at storytelling, right?
For fucks sake, he doesn't even fight you right away when he's summoned, what "shadow self" does that in games?
Blood Falcon is pretty badass.
You talk like it isn't the exact same thing other companies do on a regular basis. You're also forgetting to explain some of these things, like Bowser Jr being Shadow Mario, or how Dark Link is literally just a miniboss shoehorned into the games, and literally does nothing else before or after the fight
I wouldn't say he became bro-tier, more like, he didn't want to die, and some chipper idiot is blindly flying around into the fray, with not only his own life on the line, but his as well. If he didn't step in to help he would have died. He really didn't have a choice.
Yeah, he's not a dark clone. You'd know that if you played the game.
The Mirror of Truth makes dark clones, but Pit broke it as the clone was being made, so he's in between super nice and super evil. So he's just normal, and kind of a dick.
>That and "Dark X" is literally nintendo's idea of "badass"
>A enemy with literally zero characterization that has been downgraded over the course of time (Final boss to mini-boss to useless mob)
I remember mirroring that back when the game came out
>mfw I like over the top dark, edgy characters
>mfw I fucking loved DmC, especially the soundtrack
Come at me, /v/aggots.
>Luigi started as a palette swap too, and became his own character. What's your point?
Originating as a palette swap shits all over the "HE WAS CREATED AS A PARODY!" excuse.
He was literally made to be a "badass edgy deviant art OC" palette swap
A few posts above says exactly "but in reality dark pit originated as a literal palette swap in Brawl".
A color change is only okay when the colors don't offend you in some way, I get it.
I've said it before, you can't win with Dark Pit. If he is an original character with an original moveset, then that's wasted resources that could have gone into another character.
If he is a clone, then he's still just a lazy edgy palette swap shitting up the game.
That was SA-X which were just X absorbing pieces of Samus' old suit, you were only weak to them because Samus' suit was fucked over and was susceptible to ice beam due to Metroid DNA, and Retro didn't make Fusion.
it makes sense if hey jump back to dodge an attack and try to rush in while the opponent is still mid swing or recovering from the momentum of the attack.
But here it's just dumb
>. If he is an original character with an original moveset, then that's wasted resources that could have gone into another character.
But this is a good thing tho.
He won't be a clone which most people don't want.
>He won't be a clone which most people don't want.
Three posts already disagreed with that. He's in whether we like it or not, I just hope they didn't waste a significant amount of time on him. They would have been better making a more deserving character a clone, even if it was something retarded, like ridley being a charizard clone, or k rool being a samus clone
The thing is nobody wants to see another character from fucking Uprising. That's all there is too it. The fact that the new one is "Dark Pit" and is very likely going to be a clone doesn't help, but a lot of people are just sick to death of Sakurai forcing in his own characters. For me, it's not about waster slots or wasted development time, it just feels like I'm watching a child who has decided the characters they create are so much better than any other candidate. There's a fucking chance that Snake might not be back and we get this in return? Fuck that.
There was always a chance of Snake not coming back so that's hardly a thing to get mad over.
And not everyone hates Dark Pit, There's some people who's pretty hyped over him being in.
Because he's an important fucking character that deserved more than clone status.
Then you're retarded. Some palette swap OC that was only in a handful of chapters of ONE game, is more deserving than the major antagonist to two of Nintendo's most classic series?
Whatever, I've had this retarded argument before. You're just going to parrot the same argument over and over, which will amount to more than "I LIKED UPRISING! THAT MEANS IT DESERVES 3 REPS!!!"
I'd like if we got another Uprising character, but I am disappointed that out of all the great characters it had, we get the one that looks just like Pit.
That said, I'm still going to main him.
Japs love a lot of shit. Putting three reps for fucking uprising is retarded though (I know there are technically 2 other games in the series, but nobody cares about those.)
There were japs that backlashed when palutena was announced as well.
>I'd like if we got another Uprising character,
FUCKING WHY. Kid Icarus barely deserves 1 rep, let alone 3. Be fucking thankful. Plenty of metroid fans want more than "2 samuses" to be playable. Plenty of DK fans want more than 2 Kongs. What the fuck.
Metroid barely have anyone besides Samus and ZSS to be playable since Ridley is just another Boss.
DK COULD have another rep and it MIGHT have another rep, but imo DK and Diddy Kong are good enough.
because Smash is a big advertisement and they're trying to hype series that aren't as well-established.
Fire Emblem was losing steam and Awakening turned it around, so they're trying to keep the momentum.
KI was dead as dead can be going into Brawl, people liked Pit, they liked Uprising after that, and they're trying to keep it up.
Metroid and DK are still well-established series that don't need the extra ads
>I just don't mind DP being in over Ridley and K.Rool.
>I don't see either Ridley or K.Rool more deserving than Dark Pit.
There's a huge fucking difference. I hope the latter was merely poor wording on your part.
>Isn't that the whole crux of all character arguments anyway? "This character should be in because I like it!"
If you're at all rational, you should take into account if a character actually deserves it. I like fucking Yanmega the pokemon, it doesn't mean I want him in SSB, or think he deserves it.
The only thing Metroid could feasibly pull off as a second rep is one of the Hunters, and nobody remembers them.
Like, during development of Smash 4, I thought Magnus would replace Ike, and I'd be ok with that.
Hell, Phosphora could have a good speedy, hover, lightning and stun style going.
TFW when I wanted greninja and robin, and everybody hates them both for some reason now
Pit was the most requested character, and even his Melee trophy had a line about him "fighting again one day"
People cheered at E3 when Pit showed up in Brawl's trailer after a 20 year abscence.
The difference is that there hasn't been a good DK or Metroid made in Japan in like 20 years.
except the GBA Metroids, those were okay
>How did Kid Icarus even get a Brawl rep? Was Sakurai already working behind the scenes to resurrect the series?
No. Uprising wasn't even originally going to be a KI game. It could have easily been a starfox game, but he wanted "mythology" themes, and recently redesigned pit, so it fit. IMO it should have been a Sin and Punishment game, like half of the game is ripping off.
>because Smash is a big advertisement and they're trying to hype series that aren't as well-established.
That's literally the only rational argument for dark pit, even if it's bullshit.
>but imo DK and Diddy Kong are good enough.
That's fair, but if you're standards are that low, that one of the most influential video game characters/series of all time is covered by 2, then three characters for uprising is definitely overkill?
I think you missed my point there. Either that or you are equating the metroid series to the KI series, which is laughable.
Duh, but just saying "it was popular in japan" is as good an argument as saying "there was backlash." It's popular in japan doesn't say shit about justifying dark pit, unless maybe you have some polls or something showing incredible demand
It's still about "the character should be in because I like it", but this time people will rationalize it with "muh relevance" and stuff.
In the end it's still about what Nintendo, Sakurai, and various owners would think.
>That's fair, but if you're standards are that low, that one of the most influential video game characters/series of all time is covered by 2, then three characters for uprising is definitely overkill?
I can do without Pittoo in Sm4sh just like I can deal with Ridley,K.Rool, and Dixie not in Sm4sh.
But the fact is, Pittoo got in over those 3 and we just have to deal with it in our own way.
I now have 2 smashers from KI at least. Pit and Pittoo
>people mad Pitoo got in over King K Rool
Be glad it was Pitoo and not this guy.
When you say ripping off Sin and Punishment, do you mean how you can cut things when they're close to the character? I think that's the one original thing of Sin and Punishment did that other 3d rail shooters didn't.
People realize Kid Icarus: Uprising is essentially a Smash Bros. game, right? It has a ton of the same "flick the control stick" controls in common with Smash, and a shitload of the gameplay elements from it are getting used now, as if it was a testing bed for ideas to incorporate in the next Smash Bros.
It's basically an honorary member of the series, right down to the menu design.
>This is what qualifies as an action scene
Yawn. Fucking anime is so shit. Literally just cartoons made by Japs who realized they didn't need to put in half the work they needed to animation wise. So you get shit like this scene where they wave their hands about attacking each other like retards.
People were comparing it to smash brothers when it came out. Content wise, they're pretty similar, amongst other ways. That's the reason I don't get mad at KI items getting in Smash 4. They're basically smash items but being taken from a 3d plane to a 2d plane.
Come on, sin and punishment was pretty original. You are controlling a human character that flies around shooting, where you control the NPC, and the reticule, can do an invincibility dodge roll, shots are relatively infrequent as most of the screen opts for more enemies, being able to run along the ground, and yes, switching between melee/shooting.
I'd much prefer this to be another S&P, and have a rep from that series playable.
>TFW Sin and Punishment as a series is pretty much officially dead now, as they'll just opt for KI, and if they ever do make another S&P, kiddies will just say "THIS IS AN UPRISING RIPOFF"
Because they're shit, It's more about the events that lead up to fights in a lot of anime like this. They just use fights to show off their budget, not that this show is that bad
In his game he has plenty of unique weapons. When you actually fight him in KI you can pick one of 5 weapons he uses in his fight with you. KI has dozens of weapons, so chances of him being a non-clone are like 60-40
I do wonder: What will Pittoo's Final Smash be?
Clone or not, it wouldn't make sense for him to use The Three Sacred Treasures nor the original Palutena&Centurions summoning from Brawl. Sakurai puts too much detail and focus on his characters to just copy-paste a final smash that doesn't fit character-wise.
Then again, Wolf had a Landmaster for no fucking reason...
at least Wolf's had was called "Landmaster Custom" in Japan implying it was a customized version. I guess that's a tiny fraction better?
also what the fuck are they gonna do for Dr. Mario's Final Smash?
They'll probably just call Dark Pit's final smash "Pandora's Dark Arms" and make them dark colored.
That wasn't copy pasted, and it was true to the character. It was just kind of uncreative.
SSB4. As an Assist Trophy, anyway.
He could have the power he took from Pandora somehow manifest into Pandora and she goes around a fucks shit up? Or maybe something like Snake's final smash where he goes into the background or something and snipes with the Dark Pit Staff?
So he's a just kinda rude but not altogether evil clone? That doesn't really make any difference. It's still like making Dark Link a character in Smash.
Basically the only Dark Character that is unique enough for Smash is Dark Samus.
He's not "Dark" though. He's Pit, but brutally honest.
There's also an entire pool of weapon types that Pit doesn't have access to. Pit uses a bow and one of the arms, orbitars are an item, and so is a club, but that leaves staffs, cannons, claws, palms, and blades.
I wish he was called Pittoo in Smash. Having him called "Dark Pit" is kinda shitty when they don't even use that name more than once in the entire game. I kinda hope his moveset is more based around his staff/sniper rifle.
I can't wait for the next several years of clueless people thinking that Dark Pit is the same as all the other dark versions of characters and comparing him to Dark Link, Shadow Mario, Shadow... hegegoge and so on
Dark Pit's whole point is that everyone in the game thinks he's one of those, but he's actually not.
>your waifu will never be in Smash
If Dark Pit really does have a completely unique moveset then it'll be extra gross. We've known for a while that Sakurai is big into nepotism, but this is taking it a little far.
He could have at least chosen a good character to cram in.
>The creator of Kid Icarus has even jokingly asked if he could make a spin-off using this Pit model.
There you go, that's why there are three KI reps in Smash 4.
>tfw Dark Pit is in instead of rule 63 Zeus
Fuck you Samurai
Very much so. The Control scheme is extremely awkward to begin with, but once you figure it out it's one of the best games on the system; thought the constant dialogue will likely be love it or hate it
I never see why people complain about the control scheme
What is supposed to be difficult about using a trigger button as a trigger, a control pad for controlling your movement, and a touch screen for aiming? It's the same control Metroid Prime Hunters used and people loved that shit and some people still want a sequel in metroid threads.
All my complaints have always been in how the 3DS is built in terms of where the circle pad is slightly too high up but even that's not anywhere near "awkward" or "difficult", it's just physically strenuous when you support the system with one hand and are pushing down on it with the other hand.
The japs didn't even get a stand thing, they figured out you don't need to grip the entirety of the stylus with your fist and can use both of your hands to support the system instead.
Well, I never had that much of an effort myself, I've always preferred heavier controller on consoles, most likely due to all the N64 GB Adaptor nonsense; but I always see people talking about the control scheme, so it only feels fair to mention it when recommending the game
