Hi /v/, I'm currently working with various people in the modding community (not with Smealum) and through an anonymous source, we've found out what game is necessary to instal homebrew.
>The game is Dead or Alive: Dimensions and the exploit is used via the in-game photo mode (There's also a chance it can work with Snake Eater 3D, but so far we've made no progress with that title)
>We're not working with Smealum due to a difference in opinions, due to this we're behind schedule but our version will have more features (cheats, mods, game back ups etc)
>Game back ups will technically allow piracy
>Region lock is basically removed so far
>We're close to adding custom character models and music into games (maybe in time for Smash Bros!)
>Emulation is close as well
Stock up on DOAD, it's going to be clamped down on very soon.
>This is my first and last post on the matter, any posts in this thread that sound like me aren't me
>I won't be posting any videos or photos because Nintendo will act on it too fast when they see proof. A post like this will just come off as fake to Nintendo, expect proof from Smealum in 7 days or so.
You've been warned, if you're interested in home brew, snap up a copy ASAP.
this is either an incredible anon, or one of the most genius virals ive ever seen.
if I find it for real cheap, i'll pick it up, OP if you could post some type of proof to help us
How would you play pirated games if DOA is in the 3DS?
The game has a bug which is exploited and you are able to write information to the console or alter code, some stupid shit like that. I assume it's because the photo editor or photo software within the game allows you to save information to your sd card to fuck with the system or perhaps load an image which is actually some code that fucks with the 3ds
Ah I see so OP is leaking us info before it goes big?
>mfw using that Twilight Princess exploit for the very first time
>mfw buying some shitty psp game on my vita to crack it
why couldn't it have been a good game
>He also confirmed that the name of the exploited game will be announced in the days to come. The game is, according to Smealum, “old and cheap”. The announce should be followed by a release of the homebrew loader: Smaelum stated he wanted “things to be ready” before he’d announce it, so since the announce is near, I am assuming the homebrew loader is very close to a release as well.
But wait, I thought this guy doesn't want -anyone- to know the exploit? Why is he announcing this?
>Game is 5 euros online with free shipping
I see no downside with this, I either pay 5 euros, get trolled and play the game with Hayabusa for a while or get a Homebrewed console plus a game.
What feature does Lumines, Twilight Princess, apparently PSP GTA and DOA have in common for such an exploit? OP claims the photo mode so anything similar with the other games?
The PSP had the GTA Liberty City Stories and the Lumines hack, both used a bogus save game files which worked on an in game exploit to put the device into factory service mode where you could run unsigned code.
Until proven right OP is full of shit, but DoA actually sounds reasonable and I don't see why anyone would troll with a launch title that can be found for 10 bucks, but then again this is 4chan.
Wait... what areas dont have Braverly Default?
Its possibly legit, its an old game and works on an an unusual feature in that game, will be worth worth hacking my 3DS even if nothing comes out of it. I actually wont pirate stuff I am more interested in mods and homebrew.
Smash Bros Brawl had a similar exploit where you would load up a fake custom stage that was actually a homebrew installer. Evidence also narrows down the criteria to 5 games, DOAD being the obvious choice.
I'm an Ausfag.
We have it. The problem is that it's fucking expensive due to Nintendo's regional price fixing.
$70 for a title that's nearly a year old? I can import it right now for ~$25 cheaper, and that's after international shipping.
It's not because of lack of availability, it's because they censored the fuck out of it outside of Japan
Possibly, but given that Nintendo knew how to detect the Homebrew Channel on Wiis and still allowed them to play online likely means they won't be able to.
Already copped ;^)
send it then gayboi
>It's not because of lack of availability, it's because they censored the fuck out of it outside of Japan
Nearly a year later and you pedor-asses are still around. Jesus Christ, it was only one suit that was used in-game for under 5 minutes.
Top kek anon. Top fucking kek.
What would be the fucking point then?
I know it shows Wii U screenshots but trust me, that shit's on the 3DS version.
the twitter guy has some information backing this up. Earlier today i went about trying to figure out what game the hack was in by the information he was willing to give out. and here is how i also came to the conclusion it was DOA.
My first bit of information came from his original post on the game availability:
"the homebrew loader we're about to release will require
you to have a specific retail game. the game is also on
eShop but not in all regions"
so using this website:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Nintendo_3DS_softwareI found that there are only 18 games with limited eshop availability.
I later found out that the game was available in europe, and seeing as how the twitter dude is in america, this rules out 2 of the 18 down to 16.
the next one is a big one, the twitter dude was asked if the game was available in japan, and he answered "yes" within a few seconds. this rules out 9 giving us 7 games left.
and my final piece of information that led me to believe it was DOA, when questioned on the game's availability in austalia, the twitter dude said "isn't australia basically europe ?" I then learn that only 2 games out of the remaining 7 had no mention of australia on their wikipedia page. i mulled them over for a while before i realized "Pro Evolution Soccer 12/13" had no mention of eshop availability on the wiki page and DOA did. and i knew the twitter guy wasnt using the same list as me or he would have known it was available in australia.
Feel free to check my work. My only gripe is i don't know if that list of 3ds software is totally correct or not.
>nintendo actually has a piracy hotline
The only legal emulator on the Nintendo 3DS and Wii U is the Virtual Console.
If you want to play Super Nintendo games, I suggest you purchase them on the Nintendo eShop for Wii U.
oh yes i forgot to mention that while one of the other games i thought might be possible mentioned 'aus" on the wiki page, i was further convinced it was DOA by the speed the twitter guy responded to the question of it being in japan.
this meant one or all of the 3 following things:
the game was inherently japanese
the eshop locale it was in was japan
the site he was getting his info from was quickly accessible.
>buying old games
is this nigger for real
Anyone who actually cares about custom firmware doesnt update their firmware.
Actually based on the article in >>260107781 could maybe still support current OFW but I dont know what version its currently at since I havent updated my 3DS in over 6 months. Im still on 7.2.0-17E.
Why the fuck would I pay $10 for a SNES game I already own and can play on my SNES, or pay for the convenience of being able to take my SNES game I own on the road with me?
>only legal emulator is Virtual Console
Jesus Christ, anon, emulators are 100% legal, it's downloading ROM files that's not "legal". You have every right to possess and use a ROM file you ripped from your physical copy in whatever emulator you want to fucking use.
>Im still on 7.2.0-17E.
Get on my level.
I'll stop updating my firmware then.
Also current is probably 8.2.0-something, since I have 8.1.0-18U
They'll probably just not allow you to play online without the latest system update, which isn't too big of a deal because once you have a homebrew launcher installed just keep track of whether or not the latest update removes it, then don't update until the homebrew launcher updates to circumvent that. It's the same damn thing that happened with the Wii.
<<send this pic to https"//mobile"twitter"com/smealum/ kek
Alright dude, I'll link you to a download that will be password protected. In that password protected file will be a readme that leads to another download link with video proof of the homebrew up and running
Literally buttflustered Nintenyearold.
>M-MUH NINTENDOOOH! ;_;
I just bought 5 DOAD copies for about $3 a pop, you fagnut and there is nothing you can do about it, you Iwata dick sucking Nintentoddler.
>mfw the only games i bought before grabbing a gateway were doa and mh3u
well whatever i guess
Oh well fuck, GameStop actually has an alright price then. Hooray for convenience. Using their website to hold a copy for me right now, fuck yeah.
>mfw OP tricked me into buying it. well I havent touched my 3ds in ages and it might actually be fun so its not too bad. not sure if I can fap to it though
fuck this happened with the uno thing too
is this legit
Well shit. Would it be worth it to get into the homebrew scene this early in the game? I have no reservations about buying DOA (fucking $20 on Amazon), but I don't necessarily want to softmod my 3DS and deprive it of updates/risk bricking it since this shit is so new. Softmodding my Wii was probably the best thing I ever did to it, but that was already well into it's lifetime and the homebrew software was solid. What would be the benefit of softmodding it at this point? And would I be able to go back? Kinda asking out loud since I guess no one can really know at this point.
I think I'll probably just end up buying a copy of DOA used and sit on it while this shit goes down.
I'm probably just gonna keep waiting until it gets really appealing. I can pretty much wait indefinitely as long as I have DoA and the foresight to check online before updating. I already do that anyway, since I have a flashcart.
I can only wonder what kind of shit Nintendo will throw to trip up softmodders. Obviously they'll patch DoA in the update after (probably with a system update, not a game one), and they'll lock anyone without the latest software out of the eShop and other online business.
well fuck you then nigga
some nigga leaked the vita exploit game on /v/ before and i took a chance and brought it and it turns out it was right
i think this is a good bet so imma buy the game now before i have to pay more for it
>decided to stick with my vita and get a tablet
you best not be lying
> Have to buy a shitty game to run homebrew (not even piracy)
How fucking bothersome. Not even worth it. I'd rather just wait until there's something like letterbomb and hack it with no nonsense
The price won't rise immediately the very moment it's announced. As long as you keep paying attention to the developments of Smealum's hack, buying the game now because some guy said so is an unneeded risk.
>It's TEKKEN 3D Prime Edition
While we're talking about Dead or Alive Dimensions, got a question.
I've got one of them there Powersaves things. Can I use it to unlock all the DLC? Seeing as it isn't being distributed anymore.
>mfw you realize Tekken 3D isn't on the eShop
Got mine for 5 dollars a year ago as a used game, There was pretty much a pile of them. Lol I only bought it because of the price but now I feel pretty good about my decision to get it over an e-shop card
I'm not gonna give you a definite yeah because I can't know for sure, but I would say it's extremely likely. The exploit would probably use the photo app in the game, which means you would need to be able to play the game to activate it, which means your 3DS would need to be compatible with it.
I hope OP is the hero that I need.
>swedes won't be able to get 3ds custom firmware because of their retarded laws
And nothing of value was lost.
Already had it. Also like the guy said You can get them for cheap I think he mentioned around 4 for 30 dollars. If its fake so what I have a job if it's real I'll just inflate the prices later. I spent around $25 on lunch every work day, you think I give a fuck?
I'm just finding this funny. I hope tomorrow someone show up saying there is an exploit in the Drake & Josh game so people buy it as well.
And you really think the price would inflate as soon as the announcement comes out? Are you retarded? I mean, it takes time to normies to find out this stuff
I won't obviously once people see how many people listen to this fag they will do the same themselves for attention like with those smash leak threads consisting of only text that get 300+ replies. People are stupid
> is there any particular reason to not just wait the extra months for something that can be run off the SD card?
Because there's no guarantee of anything like that
It depends on how patient you are. Chances are high this will be patched pretty quickly after it gets out, which would mean you would not only be waiting for a game-less exploit, but one that would run on your version of the firmware (if you chose to keep updating). An exploit that relies on software built into the 3DS could take years to develop.
Then again, softmodding probably wouldn't provide much other than shitty emulators and piracy good while.
I does check out, Even Said it was an old game that he can get multiple copies of for less than a full price game. Also I never did the twilight princess hack, Does this mean that in order to run the homebrew I have to load a file from Doa?
I don't want piracy no matter what, also cheats will ruin online. I just want to be able to import games and be able to Play old games without having to buy them for a third time. But just know that this will open up the flood gates to piracy which will ruin the 3ds support.
Better expensive games than no games. Imagine the hidden gems we would never see if a certain developer decided not to make a certain game. Thoughts like that always pain me. Fuck poorfags
>these are the same faggots who spew
>LE WHEN WILL THE VITA BE HACKED
I doubt it. Smealum said he got 4 copies for 30$. 7.50 a piece.
Game is 20$ new, 13.50 used. He also said its available in the e-shop in certain regions. he is form the us, so i assume thats one.
you know he might have gotten the game from a different place right? like gamestop maybe.
also you're assumption is not based on anything.
the game is only available in one region's eshop because there is only 1 game available in more than one but not all, and that's fire emblem awakening, and is not old or cheap.
wait and see if you like, but if you are going to try and use reason on it, at least do it right.
>mfw already bought it for some reason years ago
No idea what compelled me, I was in target and decided that I was going to walk out with DoAD. Only played it for like 2 hours and haven't touched it since
>imagine a vita running android.
May aswell just get an Android device, you will get better performance, more emulators and you can get an add-on controller. Vita is only good for the Vita games that are interesting.
>Stores in my country are getting rid of their DoA stock and selling it for €5
yeah but the controller part is annoying. good ones are hard to find, the ps3 controller is a bitch to set up and messes with the keyboard and when you do set it up you have to latch it to your phone or rest it on your leg you something and it's unweildy as fuck.
plu i already have this device that should be able to solve those problems, but it cant because it must be used for only one purpose because every console manufacturer is determined to not give their customers a good product this generation
I get this slight feeling you're fucking with me. I like it.
What will you do if it turns out that it was some other game?
Little bit, not that piracy killed either system, Sega was already in the shit house when the DC came out and Sony just went full retard during the PSP's mid-life, but it certainly didn't help
Well yeah, of course piracy is never GOOD for support, but not once it has been a major factor in a console's downfall. A successful system can't really be brought down by piracy.
Not really. We've always had at least one "Reported to Nintendo :^)" post per thread in every discussion about 3DS piracy. That or the "HEY, UPDATE YOUR SYSTEMS FOR THE SMASH DEMO" threads every time there was a major piracy breaktrough.
