Why does Dark. Pit have to be a clone? Is there nothing else he can represent from Kid Icarus that isn't represented by Pit and Palu? He could use different weapons, or even summon a boss or 2.

But no, Sakurai's going to tact on the same move set that Pit his on him with minor changes out of laziness.

This rules applies to just about every "clone" in Smash Bros. Fuck, even Pichu didn't have to be a clone, or Dr. Mario, or even Toon Link. Hell I can think of some creative shit for both of them just by thinking about them.

Why not make those their own character then? Wouldn't making unique characters clones worse?

My understanding is that clones are basically padding to make it look like there is 'content' in the roster. Quantity over quality.

In a sense, preventing other characters who would require more effort to put in since it would just be easier to add fluff into the roster to save money. This is just my understanding of the "wasted slot/spot" idea.

It's a paranoid thought though since there is no connection between "x made it and thus y won't", but I can sort of see where people are coming from.

There have been 3 Kid Icarus games over the span of 27 years. There 3 Kid Icarus reps in Smash 4.

There have been more than 20 Donkey Kong games over the span of more than 30 years, with games still being released and acclaimed. DK has sold more than Kid Icarus ever will with Donkey Kong Country alone, and is Nintendo's 5th highest selling franchise. He has a wide cast of colorful characters that would make great Smash fighters, and has been in the series since the Smash 64. His series has the same amount of reps as Kid Icarus.

This is one of many reasons why people dislike Kid Icarus' presence in Smash. Sakurai is ruining Smash by making it his personal marketing tool, and ignoring franchises that have enormous fanbases.

Dark Pit is a character that nobody wanted, from a series that already has 2 reps. Doc Mario as well, who I actually liked and mained in Melee, is like bringing back Pichu.

My biggest problem is Ice Climbers who had a unique playstyle and were the only reps from their series were cut for some reason, but these guys + Girl-Marth get spots.

I'm also hoping for some character unlocks. That was always my favorite part, because after my friends take a healthy beating from me, they don't want to play. I had so much fun in previous Smash games chasing unlocks. I fear that Sakurai has already revealed all the surprises. I'm also hoping that the Wii U and 3DS have slightly different rosters, but I've got the feeling it will be exactly the same.
