If you could pick one retro NES character to be a newcomer in Smash 4, who would you pick?
The character MUST be first-party Nintendo.
The character MUST be in a game that hasn't had a series entry since the SNES at the very latest.
The character MUST get a modern reboot in a few years like Kid Icarus Uprising did.
I mean why
WHY DO YOU WANT HIM
I don't get you people.
The same thing could be said about Duck Hunt Dog.
Why not? Would you rather have a dog that has literally only ever jumped and laughed?
Mach Rider at least has its own universe set in the futuristic post-apocalypse where robot bike gangs roam the streets and only one guy has the guts and power to save the city.
They tried it in Wii Play and it was shit.
Startropics is one of the NES games I can play through every so often. It's great... though last area spikes in difficulty so much.
It's one of the best games Nintendo has ever made, yet it's been long forgotten.
In a perfect world? Balloon Fighter would be fucking awesome.
Considering that Sakurai thinks the character wouldn't work and gave his gimmick to Villager? Excitebiker or Mach Rider would be really cool.
I'm not opposed to Duck Hunt Dog at all, but I can't see his moveset being as interesting as other potential retro characters.
After playing through The Mysterious Murusame Castle, there's no doubt in my mind that Takamaru would be an excellent playable character. That game is basically a more linear Zelda 1 (which doesn't sound good but by god it is) with more combat and movement options.
I can already see it now, his moveset I mean. If you wanted to make him feel like his game you'd have to make the character a hit and run type, he doesn't have much health. But when he closes in space between his enemies, his sword strikes are powerful! Though at a distance he has to rely on knives which aren't as impressive, but he can upgrade them to sickles for range and fire for power. He can even change the properties of how he throws them! Faster, triple shot, spread shot, 4 shot, there's a lot of combat potential for an NES game. That's not even factoring in the fact that he can reflect projectiles with a well timed sword slash or his own projectiles, that and he has an "invisibility" mode where he can phase through shit and just go ape on people with his sword. Oh and Inazuma Lightning could be his final smash too ...
There's a lot of potential with Takamaru. I hope he gets some relevancy soon from Nintendo what with his game finally being release to foreigners. I'd appreciate a modern game immensely, and with that hopefully a spot in the next game because as a sword character Takamaru is ripe with potential.
I can't think of a single character that fits OPs criteria and I wouldn't consider a wasted slot. All the remotely worthwhile NES characters had series that lived on to the SNES and beyond.
You'd think by now Nintendo would have just released old Nes games with new sprites for E-shop or for phones.
I mean simple games for phones are all the rage. Ice climbers and Duck Hunt would do great without going crazy
Mike Jones, motherfucker.
>Neutral B - Charging PSI-Blast (highest available charge gets lower based on how high your percent is)
>Up B - Upward kick with the spike shoes
>Down B - Does a baseball sliding kick into home
>Side B - Throws a dagger/tomahawk/katana (random like Peach's turnips)
His final smash could be something really out there, like having a giant whale randomly swallow the fighters and then getting choked out by smoke and blasted out of the blowhole into a KO, I don't know.
