I was finally able to get this game working and holy shit it's the best game I've ever played.
I got a hefty amount of ammo for an AK I picked up off some soldiers when defending mole, and went underground for the first time.
I was looking at an artifact I found when I heard footsteps, I searched the area to no avail. Then, all of a sudden I see a pair of glowing white eyes rushing towards me.
I backpedal as fast as I can and drain a clip without ironsighting into the eyes to see it visibly flash to some horrifying demon that won't go down. After reloading for my life and draining a second clip it finally goes down.
I'm recovering, shitting a brick about to use a medpack when a soldier out of nowhere puts a bullet in the back of my head killing me.
Luckily I have an autosave right before but holy shit I need to take a break
Glad you're enjoying it.
A friendly reminder that we got a 24/7 STALKER general on /vg/, join the other bros there: >>>/vg/stalker
What comes to some potential greenhorns out there who may want to get into the Zone's wonders, start by consulting this Starting Guide,
then see the /vg/'s huge Stalker General for more tips and links.
Play in the release order. Start with no mods - only latest patch, OR get the full "Starter Pack" first. Leave big overhauls for later playthrougs, avoid the "Complete" -mods. Always play on MASTER difficulty for best realism and atmosphere, and disable crosshair.
Don't give up in the beginning! The starting gear sucks ass and first area can be quite boring.
I posted in the vg thread but the last post was 35 minutes ago, so I made a thread here for a while. /v/ isn't too busy this time around as well.
I'm only using the ZRP mod
Also playing master and no crosshair
Can't get screenshot working in game, so I'll tell you what i have
2 MP5 looking things
the starting handgun
1 double barrel shotgun
a bottle of vodka
about 200 rounds for the ak
about 50 shells for the shotgun
about 100 rounds for my handgun
2 Army medkits
An urchin (artifact)
I hope you're holding onto those Vipers and the extra AK to sell them.
Also you're fine playing with AK/Shotgun and AK/Handgun in Vanilla but when you beat the game and start modding it, you'll be able to pop a shotgun in your small-arm slot, which is much better.
>I'm only using the ZRP mod
>Also playing master and no crosshair
Son, I'm proud.
>Can't get screenshot working in game,
Just press F12 and locate your game's screenshot folder in your Documents (C:\Users\Public\Documents\stalker-shoc\screenshots)
Also forgot to add a tourist delight, and 4 diet sausages along with 5 antirads
And yes, I'm holding on to the equipment to sell it. I've picked these up since the first time I've found someone to trade with, so haven't gotten around to selling them yet
I like master better than normal. It makes the AI less retarded and headshots seem to be stronger for me as well. I've always been a marksman in shooting games so popping headshots from cover is what I'm best at.
And ok thanks for the screenshot tip
>2 MP5 looking things
they are MP5s. And ditch the more broken one.
again, see above.
>the starting handgun
oh wow... you're still using Mak?
I'd almost recommend ditching pistols altogether at this point. They really suck in (vanilla) SoC.
Pistols aren't THAT bad in vanilla when you can't shove a shotgun into the small slot. Always good when you're guaranteed to shoot a punk in the face. Headshots are dangerous, mang.
Playing on master difficulty for the first time
But I can't help savescumming
Is it a really bad thing, will I go to gaming hell ?
And I lowered the brightness yesterday, i'm not supposed to be able to see shit at night right ?
>I like master better than normal. It makes the AI less retarded and headshots seem to be stronger for me as well.
That is all true and correct.
EVERYONE should have instructed you to play on Master + no crosshairs. The higher the difficulty in STALKER games, the more damage everything does, to everyone. The AI also starts to act slightly less idiotic for most parts, though the enemy's type and "experience" affect their tactics as well.
9x18 pistols are quite pea-shooters.
The 9x19 and .45acp ones are a notable step up, but they're pretty much panic-mode choices. If the enemy's already breathing at your face, you better just whip out your knife and stab the fucker.
The sequels and various mods make the handguns a bit more versatile and useful tools at times.
Fifteen is a lot more than you need.
If you're going into somewhere hefty, take a fair few because you're probably going to get shot at a lot.
I usually carry maybe 3 medkits and 4/5 bandages. Though I play with mods that mean you can't carry 20 medkits and have a trail of bandages hanging out of your butt.
If it's your first time playing, then play as you please. Just make sure you don't save at very unfavorable time.
If you're playing 100% vanilla graphics-wise, the nights are pretty darn bright. Increasing the Gamma & contrast helps a bit, but otherwise only indoor sections are anywhat dark in SoC.
The SWO2.2 mod found in Starter Pack would fix that very problem though, picture related.
>Ditch extra AK and MP5
I will if I need room to carry something more important, for now I'm holding them so I can sell them.
One thing I noticed was I was under fire from 3 bandits in a dark tunnel, I kicked off my light, and crouch-sneaked around them, and when I turned it back on they were facing where I was when I turned the light off, so I easily took care of them. Is this actually common? Them paying attention to where they thought you were once they can't see you? or did I just get lucky
Nah just talk to them and then click trade at the bottom as normal.
In harder mods I'll supply stalkers with better gear for certain events like the fight in the garbage. Gives me cash, makes them survive, all is well.
>far away from base hunting mutants
>hear a blowout message through the radio
>SHIT SHIT I'm so far away from nearest hideout
>see the giant red cloud incoming
>at the last moment dive into some old bunker
>deafening sound of radiation hurricane lashing outside
This is why I love stalker.
>The starting gear sucks ass and first area can be quite boring.
Nigger, bum mode is the absolute best time you'll have with any Stalker game. It's about the only time when you actually have to fight for survival.
Autumn's coming, guess it's time for the annual "play through all three Stalker games with different mods than before" time. Last time, Misery left me with this nice view.
Love this game. Pick up Call of Pripyat for a slightly different approach-more survival and artifact hunting, less crowded areas and less potential for gunfighting until a certain group arrives on scene. Probably the game the needs to be modded the least out of the box.
Clear Sky is meh but still fun, and, imo, between the Swamps and Red Forest have the best two areas in all of STALKER. Both have their own mods that do different things.
The modding community is still around. Play around with them, and they will surprise you.
Good Old Stalker Mod or evolution or whatever it became created nightmarish fleshes that travelled in blind dog dwarfing herds of garbled noises and hate for the player's life. I have never been so scared of a pig before and I have been boar hunting irl.
Shit, I still remember the very first time I played SoC. I decided it would be a good idea to try and clear out the military outpost right at the start of the game, before even going to the bandit park to look for Nimble. Armed with nothing but a shitty PMM, a knife, and the tender cover of darkness, I went in knowing nothing and expecting everything. About 3 hours and upwards of 50 deaths later, I had fucking managed to do it. It was one of the most tense and exciting things I've ever done in any videogame, and from that moment, I was absoolutely hooked on the series. And it was never truly as good as that very first outpost, the moment when I was so outgunned it wasn't even funny, when I really felt the spirit of the games.
Absolutely. It may have the fewest mods and get the least love out of the three games, but it's by no means a bad game. Plus, it's got Faction Wars, one of the best Stalker mods ever.
>mfw goin on the first lab
Again, see: >>259556812
is it that hard to skim through thread?
AA2's actually a total overhaul mod.
It's pretty much like LURK or ZoA lite. Bit too brown for my tastes, and not enough actually new stuff to bother with, especially if you've played AMK or such.
just download the 2nd patch separately, and install it. You'll need to start a new game though, but it's worth it. Tons of bug fixes, and plenty of new stuff.
ALL of them. See the guide: >>259556812
>To change it up a bit, how's stalker's pacing? It appears you can stealth in the game.
They're not exactly stealth games, and you really cannot Sam Fisher around without some big mods. Still, avoiding conflicts is important, and you want to have distance and cover between you and your enemies.
STALKER's definitely ain't a game for rushing people. At the same time I've always spent WEEKS doing nothing but "pointless" adventuring in all three games on my playthroughs.
>Very shitty, but do you think it could run this well?
Does it have any kind of GPU?
Still, I'd say that the lowest rendering mode, DX8 Static Lighting, will be doable, at 720p / low-med settings. It will cut many of the prettiest eye candy, but should run well.
If not... well, get a newer machine. You don't even need too good one to run on DX9, like 128mb DX9 Nvidia or AMD videocard will do.
I'm trying out misery, but i don't want to play through the story in CoP again. Are there any free-play mods or something i can use? I tried the extreme black road save but it kept crashing on me.
Is there a mod with vanilla gameplay but replaces the spastic looking vanilla weapon models. My /k/ autism just wont allow me to play with them.
>ATI Mobility Radeon HD 550v
if that's correct, and the Notebookcheck.net's info is correct, that thing should run even Crysis on low-med settings at >60fps at best.
So I'm pretty sure at least Stalker's DX8 mode will run fine. Even one of the DX9 modes (Object Dynamic, and Full Dynamic Lighting) should work OK-ish, if not even great.
Just lower all the settings bars down to half or so, and you should see a notable FPS boost. If that's not enough (ie your fps stays below 30 even in relatively NPC empty areas), consider dropping it to DX8.
And don't worry too much about the graphics. STALKER was going to be a DX8 game for most of its development life, but thanks to numerous postpones to the release date DX9 technology came out, and GSC slapped it on the final version of SoC. CS and CoP also have DX10 and 11 modes.
Lost Alpha =! mod. And it uses old alpha-vanilla models.
i made the same post in the general but since theres more of you here ill give it a shot
just finished lost alpha and i want more modding goodness, is there any comparative that exists in clear sky or call of pripyat?
also are there more mods that give me more levels to play on and more story elements that are new? an anon suggested priboi story as a good way to go
any help would be great
mods that introduce new story are rare. The Priboi Story is one of the few I know.
For CS, I'd recommend trying The Faction Wars 3.8 (or newer if there is). It replaces the MC, sort of removes the story, and makes the game into one, huge sandbox survival game. Tons of new stuff and features.
>Checking out a building
>Suddenly random ass RPG on the floor just laying there
>Save it in a chest, never even use it
It is my precious treasure.
Pirate SoC because the devs who deserve the money are kill, and play that first. Vanilla mode on master difficulty and disable crosshairs.
Then the rest of the games in release order.
several times. Each new release is quite different.
Latest version is 2.1, and it's pretty fucking awesome. I'd recommend getting familiar with the changes and additions of 2.0 and .1 before installing, it's really a brand new experience, even if the plot's the same
I'm also playing this game for the first time and it's kind of just okay.
Using guns feels like shit almost all of the time and I'd love to get immersed in the world if it weren't for the constant bugs and AI dumbfuckery.
It can be at best, yes.
And the best thing is, it's not scripted, jump-scare kind of spooky. When you're roaming the Zone in the middle of stormy night, and you hear something making unpleasant sounds nearby, you better be prepared. Sometimes you're not even given time to prepare.
The legendary "Labs" are a whole another level of spooky.
Thank you, anon for sharing those feels. Most stalkers here are jaded from overexposure to the zone. Venturing into the zone for the first time is an amazing experience, I'm sure I speak for many here when I say that I envy that feel ,because it is something I will most likely not experience again.
they're all good. The first one is must play for any rookie, and many still prefer it over the sequels.
See the Starting Guide and tips at >>259556812
only if you're casual fagget.
Man, I explored Lab x18 for the first time today, and I was scared shitless as soon as I had stuff being flung at me, and having wisps fliyng around.
I really hope the other labs aren't as fucking terrifying as that, that was just horrifying.
>I really hope the other labs aren't as fucking terrifying as that
dohoho... how cute.
>They have endings, right?
Yes. They're SINGLE PLAYER games, after all. With story and stuff. Borderline WRPGs.
Eh, why not, but it's kinda pointless as GSC is no more and thus old devs won't get any money.
And don't rambo. Go with mix of stealthy and tactical. Sniping with rifles will be your dearest friend.
About to head to the labs (the one where you need two keys). Anything I should expect?
Fuck yes. I'm finally getting into it myself. Tried the /vg/ starter pack but it was too buggy. Tried complete but it sucked dick like everyone said. Now using autumn aurora 2 and am never fucking looking back
STALKER is a bit clunky, but it's honestly one of my favorite FPS games. I'd recommend Call of Pripyat first, since it's the most polished, then the first game.
I'd recommend a better shotgun.
>hope it is fucking worth it, first time buying a game because /v/ recommended it
It shows that you've not paid attention to the few thousand bump-limit breaking Stalker threads /v/ and later /vg/ have had in the past 7 years.
Personally I warmly recommend giving them a shot, and investing time into them. I started with SoC when it was brand new and broken as hell, finished it with the first ever patch that was a life-savior, and later on totally fell in love with it again when the first big mods started appearing on the net. It was around this time Stalker threads started to be daily phenomenons on /v/.
They're those kind of games where you need to work your way up in the food-chain in order to make the game more enjoyable, and to get to the truly "juicy parts" everyone's raving about.
>Tried the /vg/ starter pack but it was too buggy.
what do you mean? ZRP itself is all you really need, and it's a big bug-fixer. Rest are pretty much just visual mods.
Honestly interested what kind of issues you got, I
created the pack
Patched vanilla is the bare minimum you need.
The STarter-Packs equal vanilla for most people. Especially ZRP is good to have.
>introduce friend to stalker
>he plays CoP and loves it
>ask him what he uses
>"like, do you switch them out? whats your main weapon
>"no, two shotguns, one in each slot"
>apparently he thought there was an upgrade to dual wield the protectras
First of all, sell or drop all that Vodka! You got plenty of Antirad meds, so lighten up your inventory.
All in all you're looking pretty fine to me. Expect some brick-shitting and combat though.
SoC vanilla is kinda rough. Playable, but you can tell it was a rushed game. CoP is still rough but nowhere near as bad as SoC, that and starting CoP is easier than SoC.
It's up to you though, starting with SoC is also fine, I'm just not sure how used to these types of games you are.
Don't even try, it's a completely buggy mess as of now and will remain that way for a long time
There's still numerous game breaking glitches and crashes spread everywhere
Level design is kick ass though
Started playing vanilla SoC a couple of weeks ago, loved it but haven't touched it in a few days. Felt like I rushed, was really struggling. Got to the place with the second lot of documents you need to steal, was getting my ass kicked.
I'm guessing huffing down bangades and savescumming after every single fight isn't how the game is meant to be played. Was loving it at first but struggled hard with the indoor sections. Enemies seemed to jump out of nowhere, no matter how slowly I took it.
Any tips for general combat? I tried being as sneaky as possible but in most encouters I still get tagged and end up bleeding.
Usually no big, money-hungry hype-machine publishers breathing on their backs, and everyone in eastern Europe laughs at the Xbox-kiddies and consoles in general.
When you don't have much to work with, you tend to make sure YOUR ideas get through as well as possible.
These. There's a third patch released which doesn't require the previous ones so I'm downloading that now.
Mostly visual glitches. Shadows weren't working properly and were clipping through shit.
Even though it was my own fault probably I still prefer aa2. The atmosphere is bar none and the few added weapons feel like they belong. I also don't remember the makerov sounding this sexy in vanilla/complete.
>Shadows weren't working properly and were clipping through shit.
Do you have any screenshots?
Also when you talk about shadows, do you mean this odd "stretching effect" at the corners of the screen? That's just the game's engine goofing up, since widescreen resolutions were not that common yet when SoC was released. The fix's quite easy and well known too, mentioned in the How To Install -video and many copypastes; just type these into the game's console:
Vanilla had very "staged" lighting outdoors so many of the typical visual glitches were harder to spot. But especially with SWO2.2, which overhauls the lighting and weather, these artifacts tend to surface. One could easily play without it for the first time.
Hey guys, anyone have a solution;
Every time I go to start up the mod Misery, at the Main Menu it just crashes. I cannot seem to get away from it. Even when I die, it just crashes at the menu. When I'm in game, it's fine. Go to the menu, and it's done for.
I tried re-installing CoP, as well as Misery, to no change.
I run it as administrator, as well as turning off the in-game overlay for Steam.
I don't know what else to do
CoP's Starter Pack is much simpler thing, focusing mostly on graphical improvements and other tiny things like FOV adjusting and properly aligning ironsights.
Without the pack the game looks seriously ugly, compared to even vanilla versions of previous two games.
Clear Sky's Starter-Pack is almost a must-have, it's that broken game by default.
Word. I'm just happy to be a part of this world now
One more question; can you tell me exactly how to hunt artifacts? I know how to avoid them so they don't kill me but I don't know how to collect them. I've read that AA2 makes it more like CoP but I don't really know what that means.
>can you tell me exactly how to hunt artifacts?
>I've read that AA2 makes it more like CoP but I don't really know what that means.
I guess you're mixing Artifacts and Anomalies. The latter are these passive deathtraps of the Zone, while Artifacts are these magical gems that boost your stats, usually with negative side-effects though.
In vanilla SoC, the artifacts were just "lying around", more rare and expensive ones being harder to find, especially in early stages. CS and CoP changed the rules a lot: Now you had to HUNT artifacts, usually from Anomaly-fields, using your Artifact-detectors. They would start beeping when you're close to one, and when you'd stand right on top of one, they would jump out of the ground and be pickable. This made every Artifact a dangerous, but valuable treasure.
>Get the "complete" mods
b8 / 10, see me after the glass.
My problem with the game is that i cant always haul all the stuff back to the traders, and i just hate the feeling of leaving some weapons or even suits out there just because i cant carry enough. Even worse with mods where other stalkers loot shit
>My problem with the game is that i cant always haul all the stuff back to the traders, and i just hate the feeling of leaving some weapons or even suits out there just because i cant carry enough.
That's a huge sign of over-hoarder.
You need to learn to let go of that perk in the Stalker games. Loot only what you need, what you know you will need, or what you can quickly sell for big dosh.
You can do that in vanilla SoC already, bro. Just get a scope, suppressor and grenade launcher.
The mods used in the pic are: AMK1.4 + LURK arm models + Starter Pack for other graphics. Dunno if it has ARSENAL too.
When does the game get good?
I tried playing it for about an hour or so and I never managed to pick it up again. When do you get to the spooky parts instead of just running around avoiding radiation and fighting random mooks and wolves?
>My gripe with AMK is that adds seemingly endless amount of random fetch quests and not much else.
uh no, it doesn't. The quests are pretty much exactly the same as in vanilla. Unless you're talking about some fishy "Sidorovich Edition" or something, which are just shit.
>Went with AMK, what am I in for?
The defining Stalker experience.
Mod that turns boys into men. If they adapt and survive it.
sorry bro, the mod's all versions have worked perfectly fine for me on my legit, physical copy.
What the fuck is this and how do you kill it
>How do you get used to the motion animations? They make me feel queasy.
you mean the head bobbing?
To be honest, they never bothered me.
type this to the console to reduce the effect:
If that's not enough, get the ZRP mod, run it's modifier.exe, and locate the Headbob options.
was a hoax and was shut down.
>What the fuck is this
>and how do you kill it
Bullets, grenades, knife. Like always.
Or just fucking run.
that's just it's mind-attack. Your character just drops / holsters his weapon from the shock.
Yes, they have endings.
All the games also have freeplay mods
>DMM:AE for SoC
>The Faction War for CS
>SZA Freeplay for CoP
There is also a freeplay mod for CoP in development called Call of Chernobyl.
It contains every map from the three games.
if you didn't see it in 3 seconds, you're already dead
it was a close call, I give you that.
12ga sidearm is god-sent feature in AMK
>Inventory getting somewhat clogged
>Realize I'm carrying 7 fucking grenades
>Group of army just around the corner
>chunk a grenade
>Contacts meter drops from 11 to 7 in nearly an instant
Man, LA would be fucking awesome if it had a better mission structure.
Or a freeplay mod.
shotgun + assault-rifle > everything else.
pistols lack oomph and range. Shotguns take care of all unarmored foes in a flash, rifles drop armored foes from the distance easily.
>DayZ isn't the STALKER multiplayer you hoped it would be
Might as well not play STALKER at all. You need a dark room and nice headphones for a good immersion and a good experience. STALKER is about being carefull when roaming the zone.
VSS is literally the beast in SoC and CS
In CoP, just stick with your trusty protectras and
here have a nice screenshot from Misery
If I only cared about effectiveness I'd take anything that fires 9x39mm and be done with it
I even dropped the shotgun and took just a handgun pretty frequently because it was
funand I always traveled light
>Survarium will not be the STALKER multiplayer you hope it would be
The game gets fun once you get to the Garbage, then go to the left, there you fight some Military, and enter your first underground.
From there on you'll go on a fun Zone adventures, including more military slaughtering, exploring a lab, and then FINNALY arriving to Duty - 100rads bar.
From there on, you won't get bored.
>tips for general combat
From one noob to another
For humans: Make sure to actually use lean when shooting. If you really can't get past some guy around a corner, don't be afraid to use a grenade. Aim for the head (a duh). Running up to some schmuck and then unloading your shotgun into him only works when one person is around. Don't be afraid to try and run away if taking it head on does not work.
For mutants: Aim for head. Try to jump on some sort of high ground to fuck up the thing's tracking then take pot shots if the encounter is too hard. Shotguns are very good for disposing small mutants.
>How do you get them without the anomalies killing you?
By wearing proper protection, and not stepping into anomalies themselves. Rest is just a matter being quick and sharp.
>Hobo phase is best phase
>Blood sucker nearly rips my face off
>Panic and shoot the fucker in the face with a double barrel, and barely manage to kill it with 10% health
>Gobble down diet sausage and vodka trying to stay alive because I ran out of bandages and medikits
>So drunk cant even aim straight
VSS was easily my favorite weapon from this series. There were some guys from /k/ that were trying to get dimensions and make them in the US, because they can't be imported. I think it was vssvintorez.tumblr if I remember right
>VSS was easily my favorite weapon from this series.
VSS and VAL are the choices of true gentlemen and veteran Stalkers. That penetration, that bullet-drop...
>being a jarhead nazi
Loners all the way!
>"Being a borderline bandit"
>implying you didn't just describe the Duty
>both wear black leather, both steal people's money, both are very turf-sensitive
>both are just cannon-fodder and wormfood for the Zone
>being brainwashed zombie-muslims
top fucking kek.
gb2/your sewing club.
>those fucking telekinetic things that rip your gun out of your hands
But no STALKER 2
There's one game and 2 standalone-expansions.
And STALKER 2 was going to be a true sequel to the original "trilogy". Then GSC was shut down in 2012
perfectly fine bro. They're games from 2007-2010.
I remember a cool ass mod for SoC that let you spawn in as a member of any faction and basically free-roam around, doing odd jobs and killing dudes. But I can't find it or remember the name.
Doom's mod merge is basicly Xiani's freeplay start with LURK weapons.
DMM:AE adds things like blowouts and AMK-like message system to Doom's mod merge.
playing vanilla CoP on normal difficulty
50 regular medkits
20 anti radiation
10 food cans
2000+ rounds of 9mm fmj at all times
2000+ rounds of 5.56 nato
150 rounds of +p+ 9x18mm
100 rounds of buckshot
suppressed MP5 because idk why
6 different artifacts
default stalker suit and mask upgraded
it's amazing Major Degtyarev can carry all this shit and still sprint for a mile
it was being worked for ages, and was going to be bigger and better than the previous ones. All new engine, no loading times between areas, bigger Zone, better graphics ... pretty much the old "stalker: oblivion lost" reborn on modern technology.
then some fishy shit happened at GSC, and one day they were all fired. The ex members formed the Vostok Games studio, and are now finalizing the Stalker-like, f2p online game, Survarium.
all we have left is some concept art and renders.
i must be retarded. I can find doom's mod merge and xiani's freeplay start. but i cant find DMM:AE
Love the armor design as a stalker. It's odd how it's fairly generic, yet it's still really easy to see a set used in the game and instantly know it's from stalker. That, and salvaged gear and gas masks are bad as fuck.
Holy fuck that's spooky.
Doom's Mod Merge / Anon Edition
It has not been released outside /sg/'s mod repos as far as I know.

Man, I killed a pseudogiant with rpg, never used one again. Weights too much and it is not that useful. It is great that it is in the game to give diversity, but I wish there was some use for it.
I almost always use it for "Kill the master stalker" missions for added hilarity.
Imagine just walking through the zone, and some dude wants you dead because he thinks you're too experienced, so he hires some dude in hobo rags and next thing you know you take an RPG straight to the face
><iframe width="560" height="315" src="[YouTube](embed)" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Did you just forget where you were for a second?
If you're installing from Steam, then you have the newest version.
If you aren't from Steam, search the newest patch. I believe it was 1.0006 or something like that, just google it.
You should know, that you shouldn't give up till you get to Garbage atleast.
then feel the cheekie breekie
i v damkie
Aand this is the reason why i stay inside when it's night time in Stalker games. Too spooky for me.
GENERAL STALKAN TIPS FOR NEW PLAYERS
Play on master difficulty for overall better damage distribution, nearly everything is a sponge without armour piercing rounds so you practically need to play on it.
Hobo phase, you will generally NEED to aim for the head, because everything you have is practically a pea shooter
Play it safe, don't overstay your welcome and take only what you need. For example, ammo is always nice but never take ammo you aren't using, instead store it for later so you can travel lightly and have more space to pick shit up and sell it.
9 and 0 change the firing mode on some guns when available, switch to single fire mode when you want to be a little more accurate.
And last but certainly not least, there are anomalies spread around the map that are hazards, use your bolts (6) to throw them around where you suspect them to be.
>Them paying attention to where they thought you were once they can't see you?
That's how STALKER's AI works.
They do not magically know and home-in to your position. They have to have a visual or audio clue about your position, otherwise they will just either flank towards your last known spot, camp with their guns aimed at the old position, or just will calm down and start doing their own stuff eventually.
first see the Starting guide at >>259556812 (You).
here's bunch of other tips picked from old Stalker threads. Some greenhorn level, some more advanced good-to-know stuff
>playing with SWO
>pouring rain every time I return from a mission
It's got both the spooky atmosphere and the "fuck this weather why did I come out here at this time I wish I was at the bar managing my inventory" atmosphere.
Just came back from X18 and went through the Cordon, what a fucking relief it was to see fellow Stalkers sitting around the campfire after all that shit I went through.
>will add zrp mod on second playthought!
Nah, it will be pointless at that point. ZRP = pure bugfix stuff and optional extra controls for various ingame functions (headbobbing, actor height,...)
For 2nd playthrough, look up something... more spicy, like the AMK1.4. See its guide at : >>259578581

Downloading all the Starter Pack stuff right now, already installed ZRP, going Vanilla preset. Might not fuck with the Texture Pack considering its saying like 5 hours to download because Mega is retarded.
Gonna do Master and no crosshairs.
Am I good or anything else?
>Might not fuck with the Texture Pack considering its saying like 5 hours to download because Mega is retarded.

>Am I good or anything else?
like said, you're fine.
This thread reminded me that I still haven't played Stalker.
Torrenting Shadow of Chernobyl it because I'm a bad person. Anything I should know besides what was said in the starting guide picture? Seems like a good game, like what I wish Fallout was.
like said above, the 1.0005-fix is kinda iffy.
Downgrade your game instead, here's instructions.
