Toontown Rewritten will be opening on September 19, 2014. And you're invited.
On September 19, 2014, ALL Toons can log into Toontown and enjoy full unlimited access for free -- forever. (Or at least a pretty long time.)
Here's what you need to know:
On the date of opening and Toontown Rewritten's one year anniversary, the entire PlayTime system and all Beta Keys will be retired for good. Anyone will be able to log into the game whenever they like!
The first annual ToonFest will be held in a newly-opened area in Acorn Acres constructed specifically for the event. Toons far and wide are invited to come and celebrate all things Toontastic -- even if you don't actively play anymore!
Us bustas over at the Toontown Rewritten Team will be posting weekly "Backstage" posts on our website leading up to the event with some awesome stories on what we've been doing for the past year.
Be sure to keep checking up-Toon-the-minute news on all the Toontastic activities and kooky celebrations coming your way during Toontown's launch here on our website!
You proved you were Toon Enough once -- now it's time to prove that you still are.
Toons of the world, let's save our town.
>Being young enough to have actually played toontown
I played it when I was like 12. The 10 year old girls who play it are total sluts. Lots of them friended me because they saw my huge LP, and then dropped me when they realized I didn't want a rabbit for a gf.
>There are people in this thread at this very moment who won't be playing as based cat
I'd say this is claws for alarm, but i'm not purrsonally offended. Play whatever you want.
Where the fuck is everybody this is a big announcement
This game came out in 2003. Anyone who played it in their teen years, perhaps around 14, 15, and 16, are eleven years older. Fuck off.
In a month, yes. You can also schedule a time for you to play pretty soon, as always
Disney honestly hasn't done much other than comment on one of Rewritten's videos through the official toontown youtube channel, which has since then closed for some reason.
Wasn't Toon Town used as a medium for the FBI to party v& pedophiles?
Never played it but I am intrigued to play with /v/
Well, it had player housing, a various range of clothing to customize your toon from, a lot of raids (especially the last Cog HQ), boss battles after completing said raids enough, mini-games, turn-based battle system that is expertly crafted and balanced, endgame being tough as shit despite this game looking like it was for kids
That was literally all the account ever said in the past three years of it being inactive, just showing up out of nowhere to comment. Then the comment was removed when the account was mysteriously taken down.
>tfw remember doing raids and dungeons in ToonTown and then chilling out at our home with our pets
mfw this is the only game you can actually say "toons"
>About 8 hours 46 minutes
Mice are literal shit tier.
All they do is steal your jellybeans and try to sell you overpriced cosmetic items while claiming "It's a sweet deal, squeak!"
Fuck mice. Fuck 'em hard.
Feels good to be enjoying 6 hours and only waiting 2 hours to play.
>Not being master race no-drop
If you choose drop, you're retarded. It deals more damage than Drop anyway.
But anon, i never said i took Drop.
Trap is so much better, it's guaranteed if you lure them into it, instead of just increasing the odds.
Seems pretty fucking bullshit they can still dodge a Drop after getting lured.
>turn-based battle system that is expertly crafted and balanced
Totally balanced when you can kill literally everything in one turn with Sound, and if that doesn't work, just Lure and then Toon-Up.
>a lot of raids
There's only 4.
>endgame being tough as shit
I'm amazed. I've never met anyone who thinks anything about this game is hard. What I posted earlier is the entire end-game strategy, and with the addition of level 7 gags and boss rewards, it's practically impossible to die.
I love the game too, but stop lying to people.
You only have 3 foghorns, lure generally has a low accuracy. The raids are mostly randomized post SBHQ. Endgame is difficult if you're going to actually play the game how it was meant to be played - helping everyone and I mean everyone, not just playing with all people above laff 110 for example.
Drop is objectively better than Trap for a few reasons. For one, the accuracy of Drop isn't that bad if someone uses a different gag on the Cogs to damage them in the same turn. If you plant a Drop tree at your house, then it gets a massive accuracy bonus as well. Second, you get three grand pianos as opposed to two TNT, which obviously makes a big difference for total potential damage. Third, nobody has to waste a turn using Lure, and can instead use more damaging gags. With a TNT, at least three toons are required to destroy a level 12 Cog. With a grand piano, only two are. And lastly (and most importantly), Drop SOS cards will NEVER MISS as long as you have at least level 2 Drop (thus meaning you need the gag track itself). Without it, they will always miss against high level Cogs. Because Barnacle Bessie is by far the most damaging SOS card, making it have 100% accuracy is a huge advantage.
You can't even do any of the bosses except for the VP unless you have over 100 laff points and all 6 of your gag tracks. By this point, you are overpowered, and as long as you are playing relatively optimally (not hard at all in this game), it's pretty much impossible to die unless you somehow miss a bunch of gags in a row and nobody has Toon-Up unites.
>guys still getting it wrong
Dog. Master race.
Most used gag?
My favourite is the Toontanic
Most used is Cream Pie
You got a month, it has some worth.
Can confirm. Played since 2004
>praise the old shitty monitor.
>Still not in a game based off his movie
When did that happen?
I stopped playing right before lawbot headquarters. Mainly because entire city blocks became cog infested as the playerbase moved to the HQs. Not only that but everyone turned into a jerk for getting into the elevators since it was impossible to judge skill and level through those cog suits and a chat system with predetermined phrases.
by rewritten, the devs mean fixing bugs exploits, adding content, such as the storyline with the elections, etc. From what I have heard, they are in contact with the Panda3D devs to try and improve the engine, by adding multi-threading and such.
What was the nail in the coffin for OG Toontown, in your opinion?
oh shit are you doing the vinesauce dudes thing
Here's the sorry news gramps
The entire game was free to play for the last month.
My time on 4chan and the internet is limited.
I serve on an animal rescue corp and travel a lot, sometimes to places without a lot of basics I get here in America.
Toontown was making enough to pay for itself. Pirates Online wasn't. They decided, if they were gonna kill Pirates, they might as well can Toontown and it get it out of the way, which would force some people to move to Club Penguin.
I played the original. No idea why since so much of it was frustrating. I was setting it up for my little sister and I ended up playing it instead. Got pretty far but it was always so empty and lonely I just kinda stopped playing one day.
No chatting was the worst.
>Killing a perfectly easy to port mobile and phone friendly MMO to work on floundering internal mobile market.
Did they put something in the water to make niggas allergic to money this past 20 years? Lots of companies being retarded as fuck.
Club Penguin has the most expensive membership, a successful merchandise division (toys and stuff), and I think it has microtransactions now. It has a huge and incredibly loyal playerbase that will deal with whatever bullshit it puts out. It also has a lot of customization, so they can blend it with their other IPs.
>no mention of STANDING HERE, I REALIZE made this games music yet
What I've heard is that they decided the engine the game was made in (Panda3D) wasn't worth using anymore, so it came down to 'remake the games in a new engine' or 'let them live for a while.' There's leaked artwork from the prototype for a remake in Unity from 2010 floating around.
Technically, there was no option. Pretty obvious that they were laid off or something as after the prototype, the ones working on it left Disney and then Disney appeared in the mobile market with tremendous force
Hell, they haven't even renewed the Toontown IP they owned yet
So.....if the IP/Patent for it goes kill and becomes one of the few things Disney didn't feverishly defend with the lawyer sharks they keep in an aquarium in Seaworld, and it goes open.....do you think this is TTR's chance to claim it and go all-out with it?
Do we have to deal with bullshit friend code NO TYPING ALLOWED shit?
I played this shit on and off for 3 years during 2004. Anything released after that is news to me.
>Can say numbers now
I remember the retail servers being restricted to a list of programmed text. Any free chat you typed showed up as gibberish to anyone without your friend code. What a bullshit censor.
>tfw you'll never sound out your friend code to someone again
>line, tree, ate
I don't remember much but it was a Pirates of the Caribbean MMO. You were a ship captain and you managed a crew. There was also regular combat, ship combat, and, despite being a kids game, you could go to tavern and play Poker with NPCs. It sounds better then it was.
I fucking loved the trial I had of ToonTown back in the day, but unfortunately my parents were cheapass Asians and wouldn't let me get a subscription. Provided the game is as good as I remember it being, I'll be more than happy to get an account and finally get to experience the game properly
>Never telling them to go to ttc forums
But still, the feeling is mutual.
I actually really enjoyed pirates online. I'm glad it's getting revived, too; the ship combat was fun, and the different weapons and exploration were nice.
Eh, it was actually pretty decent. The worst problem it had was some recycled areas, though there was still a lot of variety in the caves - the marshs were the real problem there.
The amount of OC that came out of this during the threads three years ago were great, although a lot of later OC was horrible. I remember this one guy made a really shitty mashup of It Has To Be This Way and the cog battle theme, just because the TT music and MGR:R music is made by the same guy.
From what I've played in Rewritten (I've had beta ki for about a month now), he's about where I remember him back when I played in 03-05.
Going back to earlier posts in the thread,
This guy gets it.
I literally called it more than week ago.
This is a lot of half-truths. There were only 4 'raids' (unless you counted the shit with a limit of 4 toons as such). The weapons were pretty horridly imbalanced (most people go either trapless or dropless for good reason). Endgame was only hard when you were grouped with several complete idiots. With proper coordination, endgame was, and still is, easy as piss.
How do you suppose we make it harder? I mean it was really only easy for the kiddos the game harbored, Rewritten will probably be barren of them, littered with hardened veterans instead.
Given that the Rewritten team seems to be dedicated to replicating the original game (with new content, of course), odds are this won't happen (TTI, however...)
If you really wanted to make the game harder, though, you'd probably have to nerf certain gags (e.g. reduce the damage of the level 6 and 7 gags, reduce the carry capacity of sound). There's also the possibility of introducing higher-level cogs and 'hard-modes' for the bosses (e.g. a CFO where the crane phase pans out like it does near the end through the entire fight).
>yfw your friend disconnects when you're at the top floor of a 5 level building, surrounded by skelecogs
And probably increase damage throughput as well. Although doing the latter too much would make it entirely possible to unavoidably die due to bad luck, even moreso than the game in its current state.
I'm not counting on TTR expanding the endgame in the near future. There's way too much shit they need to put in that was in TTO first.
>Having to wait in playline
>not getting a beta key
have fun having to start at 15 laff while everyone else is already maxed, faggots
>Not already being nearly maxed in beta
>got comfy as it almost was set for PlayTime to where I was about to git in
>it hits one minute left
>tab out for a second to check a thing
>return to find it at over 30 minutes left to go
I call bullshit.
Toons....every last one of them. I'll try them, convict them....and execute them.
BETA KEY MASTER RACE REPORTING IN
ive had a beta key since july 12th. this is me trapping people in an elevator in the vp lobby
My gags are bad because i didnt grind vp a shitton like everyone else
I honestly like CFO better than CJ. The last part of CJ just feels dragged out, regardless of the skill level of your team, whereas how long the last phase of the CFO lasts depends entirely on how good your team is.
I quit the game long before the CEO was a thing, although I've heard it's shit comparatively.
Pls tell me you at least have a better suit now.
>Not grinding invasion buildings
What is the absolute worst feel in Toontown?
>you finally get that very powerful gag
you realize it's weak as fuck and isn't at max damage
>everyone expects you to have it maxed
>tfw their anger and frustration when you let them down
Heres one of the first beanfests after clarabelle was released and people needed beans
Wait, so if the game launches in September, what is the playline for?
its to let everyone get a chance in the game. The playlines been around since june 2nd. and by the way everybody THE GAME IS GOING INTO OPEN BETA ON THE 19TH, ITS NOT BEING RELEASED. THEY DONT HAVE SOME FEATURES YET
>purposely making a soundless and Toon-Up toon
God the tears and rejection is delicious
Online safety features
Toontown Online was marketed towards and developed for children. Therefore, a chat restriction was placed on the game. Players could only chat using "SpeedChat", which was a list of pre-approved phrases set by Disney that the player could select. It included general English phrases, in-game strategy phrases, and, occasionally, seasonal phrases. Players could purchase more SpeedChat phrases using jellybeans. "SpeedChat Plus" and "True Friends" were introduced some time after the game's release, which had to be enabled using a parental account if the player was under 13 years of age. SpeedChat Plus allowed the player to type their own messages against a word filter developed by Disney; if a word was not allowed, it was replaced with an onomatopoeia of that player's Toon's species. True Friends allowed players to chat with a less-restrictive filter with certain friends whom have shared a "True Friend code" with each other. Toontown had some flaws with the chatting system as toons who didn't know each other in real life could become true friends and thereby share personal information with each other. A common method to doing so was one toon would say speed chat phrases and the second toon would note the first letter of each speed chat phrase. If the toon had to convey a number they would jump that number of times.
Mandatory reminder this guy cried on a video for views, got onto GMA, was rewarded a key early on for just being "notable" in the "toontown community", and given a moderator position he does fuckall with on the Toonbook website
Every single "TTMV" out there.
Didn't Disney shut down Toon Town because they focused on this?
I haven't played this shit in years so i'm going to be clueless, Did they add new animals?
I suppose with the name generators the best way would be to add me on steam if this thread gets 404'd
as for animals and all this, I don't know. All I know is they added some election system because of their FAQ.
Never got that far on the original either, got to around 1 max gag.
Good, go fucking back to it and stay the fuck out of wow. Calling your chars toons is embarrassing for everyone.
This is literally the only game where it's acceptable to call your characters "toons" and yet you still come in to shitpost
man I feel like this thread is full of hardassed veterans
When I come back will anyone judge me for not remembering how to play. I mean I remember I had good times back when I was a kid staying over at my friends house for the night because their parents bought them the CD version of the game, but that's all
There will be snobby high toons that exclude / pick on low toons. I was 54 laff and wanting to do a vp so i ran up to these people waiting outside of the lobby and i said "Hey are you full?" and they all were 105+ and they said "NO LEAVE NOW NOOB" and im like "uh ok good luck" then as i teleported away they said "you too not" stupid cunts.
OH and the snobby high toons will ALL be short cats with the small toon effect. i can GUARANTEE this. So fucking overused it makes me gag. Basically everyone thinks short cats are cute and care more about vanity than playing the goddamn game.
>post tfw you will finally be able to play rewritten
