Yeah well, problem is that pistol round ballistics are pretty homogeneous from 9mm to .45 for autoloaders. Magnum loads are much more powerful, but require longer barrels to to the slower burning powder.

Stopping power isn't really a thing, at least not in the way it was classically understood. What matters is penetration, wound cavity, muzzle velocity, and energy. The difference between a 9mm and a .45 expansion wise is fractions of inches, and 9mm is generally a much faster round with equivalent or higher penetration - .45 catches a lot of flack for being a very slow round compared to pretty much every other caliber. 9mm is at a slight disadvantage for velocity and force, but it's fairly slight; HOWEVER, in pretty easily available +P and +P+ loads, it matches or exceeds higher-powered normal .45. +P exists for .45 of course but with a good load of 9mm you get more penetration, more capacity, and equal punch at a higher velocity. But that's like, my opinion man.

Then you get to 10mm, which was literally too powerful for limpdick-wristed faggot the FBI after they paid to develop the round, which even exceeds a lot of magnum rounds. It packs a lot of goddamn punch, like 200+ lbs./ft of energy over .45. 10mm is a beast that never really got used much, sadly.

5.7 is generally regarded as anemic and expensive, being only used in two weapons to my knowledge; a lot of firearms manufacturers are developing similar, smaller, near-proprietary rounds for the PDW craze which seems on the downturn now. 5.7 is weak and small and has a habit of "icepicking" straight through a target without expanding and causing real damage. however, it comes into its own with AP bullets, which are rarer and more expensive but really the best in that field and the intended purpose of the round.
