>Map on gamepad is win
>>
Yeah i like it.
But i wish it was longer, the missions are really fun but they squeeze your balls too hard.
I wish there was a more relaxed mode like in 2.
I really, REALLY think the WiiU should get at least one last pikmin game that is the definitive one and has all the good things of the previous games including a sort of "free mode" with no pressure.
But it won't happen unfortunately.

I think th efruit mechanic was brilliant. It was a perfect balance between tension and relaxation.
Plsu those fruits look so realistic
>>
>>258382742
Holy shit is that a screenshot fro the game?
>>
Can we talk about how the local multiplayer is the best fucking thing ever
Too bad not many of my friends are interested in playing it with me
>tfw opponent is about to win the game by carrying the last object to their onion
>tfw you bomb-kill the pikmin on their way
>>
>>258382368
I cannot do the enemy missions.

How do I git gud at them?
>>
Do not forget that the water physics are one of the best I've seen in a videogame so far
>>
>>258382368
>they squeeze your balls too hard.

this is my major complaint as well. Even the early missions had me sweating like a maniac. Still fun just, not very relaxing. The pace is at odds with the visuals. Which is interesting I suppose,
>>
I'm about halfway through I think, but I still haven't seen any purple or white pikmin.
Where are they?
>>
>>258384331
Multiplayer only.

Disappointing
>>
>>258384572
To be honest purple pikmins are literally the most OP shit ever.
They make reds completely obsolete, it's boring.
>>
>>258381410
Let's talk instead about how shitty it is compared to Pikmin 2
>no camera zoom
>reinstates the time limit, but makes it lenient enough that it's never actually a pressing concern, and instead a constant annoyance to keep in mind that prevents you from just enjoying the world at your own pace
>no camera zoom
>>
>>258384740
And of course there's always this fucking guy every pikmin thread.
>>
>>258384837
>no camera zoom
>>
>>258381410
I really liked it.
But I preferred the feel of 2 more I think.
It was a bit more relaxed and the multi level dungeons where pretty fun.
This one felt like they where trying to harken back to what made 1 a challenging experience without chasing away the people who liked 2.
>>
>>258384678
It's like >>258382368 says. Pikmin 3 doesn't utilize everything the other 2 games did well. Even if purple pikmin were op they could rebalance in some way.
>>
>>258384921
>no camera zoom
>>
>>258384678
But...fire.
>>
>>258384926
>This one felt like they where trying to harken back to what made 1 a challenging experience without chasing away the people who liked 2

That's why IMO is the best of the 3. It combines both the pressure of the first one without losing the most comfy feeling of 2.
Fruit mechanic was perfect and I hop it returned in a future Pikmin.
>Plz let it be a future Pikmin
>>
>>258382742
I fucking tell you, they're in cahoots together with the fruit industry.
Whenever I play the game I get the urge to buy all sorts of fruits and make smoothies out of them
>>
>>258384572
>>258384450
>>258384331
Actually Mission Mode uses Purples and Whites quite a lot. Whites are needed for a lot of transportation bits and there's plenty of fruit that rely on Purples to carry.
>>
>>258385653
Duuuuude. I bought a fruit blender after finishing Pikmin 3. I'm not kidding.

I also love how Nintendo apparently is behind the times in graphics yet somehow managed to create something so photorealistic it could fool someone to think it's a real photo of a fruit.
>>
How are Pikmin 1 and 2's Wii versions?
>>
>>258386024
They're the same thing as the GCN versions, but with pointer control.
It actually works really well, but it tires my wrist a bit. You also get a little bit more range with it than the GCN controls.

>>
>>258386024

>>
>>258384678
This bosses without element offensives like fire and elec. are fodder to purple let alone their stun locks made two a breeze.
>>
>>258386024
>480p
>Widescreen support
>Wii mote controls is actually better than standard

Totally awesome, and absolutely worth playing over the originals. Problem is they are fairly rare if you want legit copies.
>>
>>258384740

>no piklopedia
>>
>>258386804
>Wii mote controls is actually better than standard
I like standard controls more, i hate anything involving motion controls.
>>
>>258381410
I want pikmon 3, but I don't want a wiiu
>>
>>258387076
It's actually just for pointing, which makes aiming as quick and almost as easy as using a mouse. It's absolutely superior to standard. There isn't any waggling or other nonsense.
>>
>>258387234
Well, you do need to waggle for charging/dismissing.
>>
>>258387170
There's enough there and enough on the horizon to warrant a purchase.

MK8
3D World
The Wonderful 101 (if you aren't a pussy)
Pikmin 3
Dong Freeze
>>
>>258387234
I don't want to point, i want to hold a controller.
I think the wiimotes are inferior to any other controller simply for the fact that you even have to point.
I brought a WiiU JUST because motion controls aren't shoved in your face.
I completely hate motion controls of any kind, i hate holding wiimotes, i think they're awful in every possible way, i jut want a normal controller and the WiiU gave me just that.
>>
its aight but I dislike how easy everything is

they dont even try to surprise you anymore, they warn you about everything

like half the fun of pikmin was being trolled by some of the enemies

and in pikmin 2 they got rid of that

also the game is too short, I'm bored of it at 40 ish hours.
>>
>>258385006

Well they did balance Purple Pikmin by limiting them to Mission mode, when you're limited by such a strict time frame they're(and also white Pikmin) are balanced.

Though I think they might have nerfed their abilities as well since they didn't seem to be as good in combat as I remember.
>>
I would love a Pikmin Trilogy release for Wii U with Pikmin 1 & 2 remade on the Pikmin 3 engine.
>>
>>258387847
Have you tried getting platinum on the Mission Modes
>>
>>258388907
I'd love that too but only if they readded c-stick controls
>>
>>258387170

If you want Pikmin 3 you want a WiiU.
>>
>>258388907
I would REALLY like that.
It would literally be almost the definitive game for me, it would be my GOTY for that year.
>>
>>258387540
Only in the third game anon
>>
>>258388907

They should also add the "Go Here!" function for Pikmin 2 if they do that. So Louie or the President aren't dead weight or just an extra health bar outside of a few situations.

Everyone on Hocotate learns that PNF-404 is full of treasure, you have to compete with them to collect enough treasure. Story mode is a combination of Pikmin 2 and 3, Mission Mode is you battling against other computer-controlled Pikmin captains over the treasure in the area.

What was the music like in Pikmin 3?

I really liked the songs in the previous games, cave music in Pikmin 2 was always cool and also this:

Pikmin 3's ost was ok, nothing really standout.
Pikmin 1 has the best music of the series.

>too late, it gets dark and he stumbles on to a Bulborb nest as they are waking up from nocturnal sleep
>Louie thinks he's fucked but for some reason they don't attack him
>turns out it's the Bulbmin from Pikmin 2 grown up and they remember him
>command fully grown Bulbmin against other deadly creatures to survive the night

>>
>>258394720

When you see the lime by the nearest wall/pool, throw two captains up there and then throw one of them to the group of purples, getting the purples early saves you so much time since they can carry any fruit other then bananas by selves.

Also when you get the flying Pikmin, use them to gather the two nearest gold piles before you use them to open the gate.

Try doing earlier bosses in only one day to stock up on juice. The Mireclops is the most bullshit to do in one day, but the others are actually doable.
>>
>>258396907

>The water wraith appears every time
>No Purples.
>>
I actually thought it was the weakest Pikmin yet. I didn't really enjoy the maps and some of the fruit relied on using the wiimote, and since I was using the pad it became tough as shit.

I think the time/stress element quickly became less overbearing after about 5 days and then you stockpiled fruit like no ones business. Pikmin 1 balanced it nicely in comparison.

The last boss was a pain in the dick and honestly I hated that whole level. dune boss and crystal catepillar were the best bosses tho
>>
>>258396765

>>258397024

>>
>>258397369
I am referring to >>258397415 because fuck throwing shit up that little hole.
>>
>>258396921
I can do all of the other bosses just fine, but the issue is Louie takes all of your juice so it doesn't matter what your stockpile is. You also can't leave the area right away to get any boss fruit you might have left behind in other areas because you have no juice for the night. I suppose I could leave the crawmad's fruit behind and grab it right away after Louie's thievery, but then that means I only get one day each for the crawmad and the phosbat, as that's as far as the beginning juice will go. I'm just not that good.
>>
>>258397560

I'm not that good, either, but the crawmad and phosbats are the ones that I had in mind when I said they were the most accessible to do in one day. It takes a little patience and practice but they're definitely doable. I haven't seen any 2.0 speedruns yet, I should look some up.

>>
>>258398024
They're pretty good, just as long as your playing screen is the gamepad and not the television, otherwise you'll be blindly tapping.
>>
>>258397897
Not really. It's much more complex and multitasking, while in NL is basically touch the enemies until they die.
The controls are different since you move both the captain and the pointer, but I didn't have a problem with NL iN the first place.

Game is amazing, go for it.

Not him but i just got really tired of the whole last part of the game, it was just really tiresome and irritating to try and escape the golden wraith while trying to create a path, especially when you spend multiple days doing it
>>
>>258397024
Pikmin 3 is the best one because not only are the mechanics the most polished, but because it's entirely about self imposed challenge. You can play it as casually as you want, which in your case seems to be very much so.
>>
>>258402527
I'm pretty sure the Wraith can't go into water so drop Olimar there and it can't do shit while you build a path.

Make Brittany run around in circles while you build your path. You never actually need 3 captains. This way you can take one day to build the path, get Olimar out and return the next day to fight the wraith.

I got in this series thanks to Dolphin emulator and I was pretty much blown away from Pikmin, finished it in 26 days and losing like 50% of my Pikmin ever sprouted on first playthrough and did a second one immediactly after and finished in 16 days losing about 10% of my Pikmin.
Now I'm playing 2 and dungeons and more types of Pikmins are ton of fun, but I sorta miss 1's atmosphere and sense of impendent time limit and I liked the above ground areas a bit more. I guess I'll buy a WiiU+Pikmin 3 eventually to thanks Shiggy.

Also, am I supposed to be losing a ton of Pikmin on dungeon bosses? Man-at-Legs killed of like 50 of my Pikmin and the Mother Bulblax with the bulborb larvas killed like 70, mostly with the larvas, and I had the exactly 15 Pikmins required to get the treasure, 12 of which were Bulbmins.

I got so much use out of Pikmin 3. Easily my most worthwhile Wii U game. Downloaded all the DLC and played 'em all to death, though I find it impossible to get all the platnium medals.

Mind you, I'm really hoping Conduit 3 or The Grinder haven't been cancelled. make an appearance soon. The console is so starved for a good new FPS, it's getting really annoying.

Yes. Well, it's one way. Get the Yellow pikmin to carry the bombs, then toss them up on a ledge as the long legs passes by, and it'll deal tons of damage to it and get rid of the hair, then just spam yellow pikmin at the head till it ded.

Bulborbs are relatively easy to kill with a swarm of like, 20-30 red pikmin.

Well, I will say that you do find the Dolphin in Pikmin 3. Or at least a similar ship; not sure if it was specificall the Dolphin.

>>258414931
>help!
Why are you splitting up your team when going into an unfamiliar part of the map?

I generally just grab 15 of each type, and march off with everyone. If there is something I want another person to do, then it's usually something that I'm familiar with and so I'll grab the pikmin required for that job. Mostly this is just gathering berries for the pikmin-boosting juices, and so five pikmin with someone to watch them is usually just fine.

I always hate it when I misplan something and a large number of pikmin die. I'm not quite sure which is worse: accidentally drowning a bunch because they carried something into the water, or just something stupid like having them walk into fire. Or just loosing track of which pikmin I have and accidentally pitching the wrong ones at an enemy: typically because I ran out of reds against a fire enemy, ran out of blues when trying to hit something over the water, etc.

And then, there is assuming a route is clear when an enemy has respawned in it. "Oh, those pikmin should be fine! I'll just let them walk back safely and take care of this... what do you mean pikmin are dying?!"
>>
Beat only Pikmin 1. This is much better by far. It feels tighter and it's 100% comfier. I was really impressed considering the first trailers didn't make the graphics look too hot.

I could just go in fps mode and take snapshots all day. Bingo battles are always fun as hell with the boulder items. Also, best looking fruit in vidya period.

You can lock onto an enemy, then press B.

But I agree. The c-stick controls were great, and I am very much disappointed in losing them in Pikmin 3. They were very good for swarming, for getting pikmin out of the way of something, and for in general moving around easily. I can't count the number of times I've been running around an enemy, and just been frustrated because my large group of pikmin just keeps trailing behind me and standing in the way of an attack.

Other than that, I didn't much like the caves and so I don't mind them being gone.

I feel like it could've been longer, it could've used more enemies, it could've used more bosses, it could've used more upgrade items, it could have used a more interesting collectible than fruit (the random objects from the second game, with their descriptions and everything, were perfect), and it could've used a story co-op mode.

Other than that, a great game.
>>
>>
>>258437901
I think in 1 all the pieces come together perfectly. They really nailed the "you are stuck on an alien planet; survive" thing. Especially with the logs at the end of the day.
I think 2 sort of trivialized how hardcore the planet is supposed to be. Despite having tons of content that expands on the concept in interesting ways, I thought a lot was overreaching. In 1, each enemy was unique in appearance, had different mechanics, and fit with the world. In 2, you have shit like the little spiders, where they're specialized to the pikmins' resistances and the Gatling Groink which doesn't fit the world, like >>258434973 said.
I think 3 returns to form like 1, while keeping good elements of 2: multiple captains, sort-of caves, etc. It also makes excellent use of the Wii U hardware. It's way too short though, it's too linear, and they overdid the "eldritch horror" thing with the bosses.

Are you guys sure Pikmin 3 is too short? Couldn't it just be that it's the third game you're playing? I also found it "too short", but I've seen so many comments in places like miiverse from new players that are taking forever to beat it and even more to get all the fruit.

>>
>>258439487
I didn't find it too short. Especially with replaying it now a second time, I'm finding that it does take awhile to get through and it's satisfying to do so. That, combined with challenge missions, makes me quite happy with the game.
>>
>>258439753
Would it be accurate to say 2 eased a lot of the players or set the relax level too high for newer ones?
>>
>>258440096
Me, too. I think this game is easily the best to replay with how the files work, you can just go back to any day and fix your mistakes instead of starting a new game. And on second playthroughs, you get all the map from the get go and can skip cutscenes.
>>
>>258439487
It's short when compared to 2, but standing by itself it's just fine.

>>implying Pikmin 1 is hard
If Pikmin 1 was your first Pikmin game, it should've been challenging as fuck. If you found it easy, but found 2 hard, then I don't know what to say.
>>
>>258439487

Pikmin 1 had 30 ship parts to collect and ~30 enemies in 5 levels. 5 challenge levels.
Pikmin 2 had 201 treasures to collect and ~70 enemies in 4 levels and 14 caves. 30 challenge levels. 10 battle levels.
Pikmin 3 had 30 unique fruits (66 total) to collect and ~50 enemies in 5 levels. 14 challenge levels (30 with DLC). 12 bingo battle levels.

I can translate this into more useful numbers.

Reward to Challenge Ratio: divide number of collectables by number of enemies (RtCR).
1) 1.0
2) 2.9
3) 0.6 or 1.3, averaging to 1.0 (depends if you count repeats of fruits)
1 -> 2) almost 200% increase
2 -> 3) decrease of about 45%, 60%, or 80% depending how you count fruit

Reward to Space Ratio: divide number of collectables by number of areas. This is mostly important with Pikmin 2, since I'll count each cave as 1 area (RtSR).
1) 6.0
2) 11.2
3) 6.0 or 13.2, avg. 9.6
1 -> 2) almost 100% increase
2 -> 3) decrease of about 46% or 14%, or increase of 18%, depends how you count fruit.
>>
>>258443863
what a nerd
>>
>>258443863
What I take from this is that Pikmin 2 clearly had more content, but it was less dense.

By this I mean 2 had the least variation in the enemies you would fight (high RtCR) relative to the rewards you would get. Pikmin 2 does dole out treasures more often than 1 doles parts or 3 doles fruit, however. To compensate, let's factor in the RtSR.

RtSR / RtCR or creatures divided by space is challenge per space (CpS), which indicates how "spread out" the unique combat content is.
1) 6.0
2) 3.9
3) 10.0
1 -> 2) decrease of 35%
2 -> 3) increase of 160%
1 -> 3) increase of 67%
This bears out what I felt was apparent from playing the games. Pikmin 2 spreads its new content pretty thin compared to 1, and 3 is a big jump in the "density" of content.

Note: environmental hazards and emergent challenge from matching different enemies in a location are not accounted for here and are a critical component of Pikmin 2.

Also Note: derived numbers are based only on the story modes.

No, that sounds exactly like how the player should feel. But I'll give you a super easy trick that will make your life a lot easier.
At the beginning, have Brittany run around in circles between the area with the butterflies and the area with the red bulborbs, with ten Pikmin carrying Olimar. Then, have your other two captain clear the rest of the dungeon. You can clear the entire dungeon in a day this way and never have to fight the plasm wraith on your way. Make sure you get Olimar out by the end of the day, though, otherwise you'll lose time having to carry him at the beginning of the next one. If you can't make it in a day, make sure you clear the shortcuts, at least.

Really is a comfy game, and then you accidently lose 50 pikmin and you just feel guilty.

I'd recommend it completely. As far as I'm concerned, it's the best game on that console currently. It may be painfully short, but it's a fantastic experience while it lasts.

I recommend the other 2. They're available for the Wii, so you can also play them on the Wii U. I'd definitely recommend the Wii control versions in general, too. The pointer helps a ton for aiming. Each game is deliberately a different experience, sort of like Mario Kart. They each take a somewhat different approach. I'd say play 1 and then 2.

Cyan Pikmin would be great in a game where you can actually explore at night. They could be bio-luminescent, and help to light up dark caves that you would others have trouble seeing in.

New Species for Pikmin 4 are Green and Orange.

Green have barbed fingers and can't be shaken off by enemies they are also the best diggers and will get stuck on wooly/furry enemies

Orange are fat and bounce when thrown additionally they float on water and they can glow in the dark.

Yes. Especially since 3 has a sequel hook anyway and Louie got left behind on the planet. This is the key. Also, nintendo isn't stupid and is aware of how many copies people got as part of a promotional deal. Individually, they seem weak, but in truth, I am beginning to believe that they could be an exceptionally mighty species if properly organized. I certainly hope so."

Day 25
>"I have been stranded on this planet for some time, and I have grown used to my life here. At times, I even find it quite bearable. I know that as soon as I return, I'll once again be subjected to daily ridicule by my despicable boss... If only I could be a Pikmin... NO!!! I must not think such thoughts! I have a family! I will not give up! Ever!"

Day 26
>"At this point, I no longer care what happens. Surely, not even a last-minute push can guarantee my success. Now that I think about it, my wife always said that I gave up too easily... What does she know, anyway?!? When did she become a licensed psychiatrist? ...Now I am upset. I guess I will just go to sleep early tonight."

Day 27
>"I suppose I have done well to get by without much motivation. I have made it this far without any hope. I must do all that I can with what time I have remaining. Vigilance, Olimar! Vigilance!"

Day 28
>"I don't have much to write today... When I inspected the Onion's legs, I saw that they were covered by tiny little hairs.
>It was kind of disturbing."

>You have to take everything as lighthearted as it is or else you will think that Britanny is a bitch, that everyone hates Charlie and so on.
I was trying to take it as lighthearted but when literally 90% of Britanny's dialogue/messages contain her complaining about Charlie in some way it gets old and stops being a joke.

>female/male/flying shearbugs
>pikmin/captain catching snitchbugs
And Melee has the most characters.

I really like this character. Definitely at the top of my list.

He comes off as a bit of an airhead at times, but he seems pretty steadfast when the time asks for it, and has proven he's competent enough to hold his position. I also find it adorable how much of a big softy he is when talking about his rubber duck, or trying to compliment his dear lady Brittany, even when his attempts to sway her fail. Considering his history as a ranger, I felt the game should have expanded a little more on his backstory, but I digress.

I really do think he's a great addition to the series, but sadly not a lot of people seem to share my sentiments with the character.

Go to the Subterranean Complex. I think there are Queen Candypop buds along with Ivory and Violet buds, so it's possible to speed through the dungeon with one Pikmin in hand.
>>
So since Pikmin 4 is probably going to happen, what do you guys want to see out of the captains?

I figure they're going to be from a third alien planet and crash-landing as well. Could Nintendo improve the formula from the original somehow? Maybe have different functions added with the parts? Some of the parts in the original would give you more abilities, and others would just have some text about how they made Olimar more comfortable. What if each new part was sort of like an item that would help you out in-game?

I may try this. I haven't played Pikmin 2 since it came out. Might dig out the memory card and finally 100% it.

I'm honestly convinced that Brittany was tsun-tsun~ for Charlie. She's always bringing him up in her notes for no real reason, except to talk about him in any way she can.

And the way she praises Alph openly in front of him is almost like she's trying to purposely make him jealous and want her more.

Yeah, and some of those fruit entries.
>I named the Pocket Airhead after the captain TEE HEE
She's totally into the nigga.
That and how the secret of the Pikmin 3 planet is treated thoruhg log entries and in the 100% ending makes the game's story really enjoyable. Full of little things.

I started a third run but now my map isn't showing, what did I do wrong?

By far the most perplexing of the ship logs I ever read.

WHAT DOES IT MEAN?

I just wish there was no daytime limit thing. Call me a casual but I just wanna run around exploring and taking my time with everything.

Also playing the game for a big chunk of time, all that time it takes to rocket back into orbit, talk about shit, then come back down again really adds up and gets annoying as fuck. Wish there was a way to skip or at least speed that stuff up
>>
>>258468981
i think they expect you to, 3 is much more inviting than 1 or 2

I don't think I'd recommend it. While 3's probably easier than 2, it's definitely tougher than 1. It controls differently than either of the previous, and you're going to really, REALLY miss the multitasking capabilities from 3 while you're playing 2.

>>258468901
Can you clarify a little?
>>
>>258468901
You don't get the map until Alph picks up the scanner, I'm pretty sure.
>>
>>258469953
When you replay the game, the map should show all of the areas you've explored in previous runs. My second playthrough, I had all the maps ready to go as soon as I reached the worlds but now on my third playthrough the maps have gone dark as if it was my first time playing. It's bothering me only because I was gonna go for a 10 day run, but without the map it's impossible.

And now to wait for several weeks, possibly a few months before it ever happens again.
>>
>>258470280
No clue. The only thing I can think is that some other option has been turned on other than the map. I'm on my second playthrough and I definitely had the map before that point.

Sorry.

>>258470419
Hm. Did you pick up the note that reminds Alph and Brittany to enable the "Go Here" function?

>>
>>258471151
Yup, that, too. I guess I'll dick around and see if I somehow erased the map data when starting a new game. That really sucks, though.
>>
>>258471428
No kidding. The only thing I could think of is that you somehow missed a specific note somewhere, but that doesn't really make much sense.

All things considered, though, it's a very replayable game, so I wouldn't be terribly upset about it, myself.
>>
>>258471667
Yeah, I guess I'll try to go for a more accesible speedrun to refill the map.

They will, it'll just take 10 years.
