You sit in a room with no way to move outside of it, as animatronics that want to stuff you in an animatron suit lethally hunt towards you. You have to realize they're coming, block them off, stall them by watching them through the cameras, and not let your power in the generator run out.

What is the gimmick of each character?

Here's a good method for you to use:

When the first night starts, watch chica and bonnie closely. Freddy won't do shit really until night 5. Chica goes to right side, bonnie to left, and foxy goes left aswell.

They will go slow as fuck on night 1, so you can track their progress easiily. However what you want to watch is foxxy, and wait for him to move from his starting point, so just watch that. When foxy moves from the starting point, go to pirates cove, and keep looking at it no matter what. In between each time you check in on him, flicker each light. If you see bonnie or chica, close the door and flicker the other light. If that side's clear, open the door you just closed, ect.

As long as you watch foxxy and manage the two doors you can beat any easy night.

Would the five missing children be able to survive in the suits, given their skulls are a lot smaller than the security guards?

Also, didn't one of the flyers on the wall talk about the guy killing the kids lured them away in a Freddy suit? Isn't it confirmed that there are no suits in the pizzeria, only casings where the animatronic skeletons go? Just some thoughts

So since no suit exists, the guy was definitely a non-Freddy cartoon mascot then.

Unless the owners managed to pull a non-Freddy cartoon mascot costume out of their ass within the time between the murder and the next morning that just so happened to be the perfect size for whoever was unlucky enough to walk by the camera at night, and then had an incredible stroke of luck and the police didn't think to find out when or where the costume was procured and the person who took the heat had the worst lawyer in the world and was unable to poke even one of the many, many holes in the prosecution's case, it seems as though whoever got caught really was the one who did it.

So apparently Freddy doesn't actually teleport into the room if he gets you with both doors closed, he just tears through a hole hidden by a poster? I'm going to go browse some of the letsplays online to try and verify this, but if its true it could mean that Freddy isn't actually supernatural at all, just slightly more intelligent then the other robots.

Tonight I actually watched gameplay of it and it's nowhere near as scary as my unfortunately vivid imagination conjured up.
add that to the story of an insane small business owner engineering fucking terminator robots for a pizza parlor and the whole thing loses its punch.

I think it's praised so much because it's a horror game that isn't another first person adventure and actually pulls it off well, which is rare in the horror genre. The game has jump scares if you lose but the gameplay itself is extremely tense and nerve wracking and it accomplishes its task well. That and the lore is fun to discuss. A lot of the discussion is about the backstory since the guy left enough clues in the game to speculate on but not enough for definite answers unlike horror games which feed you everything through journal entries.

Is it overpraised? Probably. I think after a month or two there won't be many, if any, threads on it once everything is discovered.

Somebody gathers some capital from investors and opens a competitor where the employees have good enough conditions and are paid well enough to not provide the bare minimum required for their job. People who can afford it start coming to this place for the higher quality instead of Freddy's. As they gather capital they can expand and make all locations more affordable, and therefore more competitive with Freddy's. Freddy's sales take a hit, their value keeps going down and the competitor's up, and eventually this process drives Freddy's out of business. Which is what is happening in the game, all these cuts are Freddy's dying attempts to stay afloat. Of course, this means that at the tail end of Freddy's life span you'll have a handful of employees unfortunate enough to work in the worst conditions possible. Murderbots complicate this further.
