I want Ridley, Mewtwo, and Mach Rider, but I know that despite them being one of the more likely characters, they probably won't happen.
At least Sakurai isn't teasing Simon Belmont; as much as I want him I already accepted he won't happen
It'll probably be no different from the last three but it'll cause the fanbase to be even more toxic with one another, because nobody can just accept that people find different things fun.
I stopped being excited for Smash Bros. when I began to realize I hated being a part of the community.
There are some characters i'd love to be in smash, but they're all fairly large pipe dreams. If they don't get in, hey I got fucking MEGAMAN. All the other newcomers look rad and fun too, the only ones i'm not interested in playing are Palutena and Rosalina.
A lot of different and unexpected things could happen, so I don't bother with trying to guess.
Secret newcomers for Brawl were Wolf, Toon Link, Lucario, and ROB. Sakurai likes secrets, sure, but keep in mind that the most popular characters are revealed long before release to make the game look good in all the previews/marketing. There might be a few pleasant surprises, but no one should be expecting five new non-clone characters or Snake or anything like that.
the way i see it, it breaks down like this
brawl had 39 characters, yet not all of them are returning. i'm expecting ivysaur, squirtle, and snake being the minimum cuts, but possibly 4-5 cuts if you think lucas or someone like wolf would go
we have 11 newcomers so far. that combined with my assumed 36 characters would equal 47. i'm guessing we're gonna see 3 more characters to round it off to 50. this is just a guess, I could be wrong
I want Ridley in, but after seeing his shadow in the direct, I have to admit I think he might be a stage boss. I think it's fishy how Sakurai alluded to him, and that gives me a glider of hope. But if he's not in, I might be a little disappointed that Sakurai instilled hope in me, but I couldn't say I didn't see it coming.
>mfw desperate Ridleyfags are dying out on /v/
I'd actually really like Monita.
I can't really think of what she would DO though, maybe just an AT or Dark Monita as a Nintendo Land stageboss.
Everyone from Brawl will return except Squirtle.Ivysaur and Solid Snake.
There will be a Rythm Heaven rep.
Donkey Kong will have a new rep
Naked Snake\Big Boss has 10% of being in.
Peach and R.O.B. did it best, there was also the gliding mechanic but that was lame and got cut in 4. I'd like to see an aerial-oriented character, if not Ridley then someone else, who's an anti-Little Mac of sorts that excels in the air but has a flying mechanic like R.O.B.'s up special that has to recharge after use and they're kinda sluggish on the ground to balance it out.
I think we'll get a new Metroid, and Zelda rep. AA DK rep would be fairly likely as well for a newcomer, and I think there will be at least one more character that nobody fucking wanted.
I just want Shulk.
But I know shit like Dixie and Ridley will probably get in first.
I hate to clog the roster with Pikachus and Zeldas, but it's worth it for Snake, Mewtwo, Dr. Mario, Dixie Kong, and Squirtle whynot.
>Terror button - Ridley, Hades, and Bandana Dee
Press Splendor twice for Flynn.
I still want Ridley but at this point I just want a clear confirmation or deconfirmation for him like every other character.
First the pic of the day now the goddamn shadow, why must he drum up fake hype like this?
Are people really confused by this? The point is just that 'showing you the shadow of a character' (like how Ridley was shown in the April Direct) also describes the CHALLENGER APPROACHING screen you see before unlocking a secret character in Melee/Brawl. It's nothing about Falco specifically.
This is the only SSB4 theory I've ever accepted, I'm strongly confident in it but don't necessarily regard it as gospel (I never do, and people laughed at me when I said Gematsu had the possibility to be wrong even if some of its past and future predictions are right). Ghirahim seems kinda likely, I don't know about Ridley as much as I'd like him. I think we'll get a Ghirahim reveal before release and the Metroid rep will be left as a secret unlockable. Sakurai has been Ridleybaiting since nearly right after the game was revealed, and will probably be Ridleybaiting to the bitter end. Can't go spoiling the fun before we anxiously go out to buy the game to find out the truth.
Anyone think that most of the unlockable characters are going to be villains? I could totally see Pokey, K. Rool, Ganondorf, Girahnim, Mewtwo,
and Ridleybeing in the roster, but unlockables. Sort of like 1 villain per major series. Would make total sense for villain characters to be unlockabled over hero characters, as well.
Impa really should have just taken Sheik's place, at this point I get the feeling she'd just wind up being a clone. None of the other potential Zelda characters feel like they have a good shot, though. Ghirahim is a one shot character in the same league as Zant and Skull Kid and the only thing he really has going for him is that he's relatively new.
Right now I'm simply not sure Zelda needs a new character. They should focus more on making the current ones not suck.
It's tough to pick Glamour. I like Shulk, Lip, Mike Jones, Andy, and Chorus Men, but I'd probably go with those first three. I'd nearly Glamour twice, but I want Geno.
People thought we'd get a "villains trailer" that'd introduce all the unconfirmed villain/antagonist vets as well as Ridley or K. Rool or whoever, but with Metaknight announced all on his own that doesn't feel very likely anymore. Making a ton of villains all secret characters like that is even less likely, I think Sakurai would want to diversify character unlocks instead of giving you six villains in a row. There's probably only 3-5 unconfirmed newcomers anyway.
>tfw the only true newcomer yet to be unveiled is shulk and the rest are all shitty clones no one but Sakurai wants like Dixie Kong and Dark Pit
I don't know why I'm so disappointed considering this Smash has the most 100% original characters of any game thus far but something about this roster just seems lackluster
Dark Pit is almost TOO cloney to even fit. He's literally just a palette swap.
And I'm pretty sure Dixie has enough to be a mostly unique character. She doesn't even share a lot of stuff Diddy has. The only moves I could ever see her borrowing are his down B and/or side B.
No, She is an entirely diferent character, Dark Pit is just a Pit clone in black, and all characters have blue, Red and Green alts, playing Pit vs Dark Pit with te same alts would be confusing
There's is absolutely no way on earth they would bother putting in the time and effort to make a unique character out of someone who is, in his own series, a palette swapped clone.
And colors don't mean much when the game has alternate colors for each character.
The roster is going to be so underwhelming
It'd still make things difficult to tell from a glance. This is basically why Sakurai chose Falco over Wolf in Melee, and when he did add Wolf he made sure to give him a wildly different posture.
I suppose you could argue that they could do the same for Dark Pit but Dark Pit really doesn't deserve that sort of effort, and I don't think you could logically have him skulk around like a beast or something.
There's always at least one "Holy shit I never would've seen that coming in a million years" character addition. In the past, it was G&W and R.O.B.
And everyone forgets that Konami, as well as Bamco were working on this game.
I'm not gonna put money on it, but I wouldn't be surprised to see some Konami rep. Might be Snake again, might actually be Simon. He's not as unlikely as everyone seems to think.
I figured that's what you meant, I just don't see that being the case this time. Wii Fit Trainer was added with the express intention of being a character no-one expected ever.
ROB and G&W are lightweights compared to WFT. I just don't see any other major surprises happening, sadly.
Luckily, that means if something winds up happening, I'll get to enjoy the surprise even more. Yayyyy.
I wouldn't worry too much about it. Between Chorus Men and Shulk, Shulk has the greatest odds of getting in.
I mean, the evidence for Shulk's inclusion is considerably more notable than anything Rhythm Heaven.
