There are some characters i'd love to be in smash, but they're all fairly large pipe dreams. If they don't get in, hey I got fucking MEGAMAN. All the other newcomers look rad and fun too, the only ones i'm not interested in playing are Palutena and Rosalina.

A lot of different and unexpected things could happen, so I don't bother with trying to guess.

Secret newcomers for Brawl were Wolf, Toon Link, Lucario, and ROB. Sakurai likes secrets, sure, but keep in mind that the most popular characters are revealed long before release to make the game look good in all the previews/marketing. There might be a few pleasant surprises, but no one should be expecting five new non-clone characters or Snake or anything like that.

the way i see it, it breaks down like this

brawl had 39 characters, yet not all of them are returning. i'm expecting ivysaur, squirtle, and snake being the minimum cuts, but possibly 4-5 cuts if you think lucas or someone like wolf would go

we have 11 newcomers so far. that combined with my assumed 36 characters would equal 47. i'm guessing we're gonna see 3 more characters to round it off to 50. this is just a guess, I could be wrong

I want Ridley in, but after seeing his shadow in the direct, I have to admit I think he might be a stage boss. I think it's fishy how Sakurai alluded to him, and that gives me a glider of hope. But if he's not in, I might be a little disappointed that Sakurai instilled hope in me, but I couldn't say I didn't see it coming.

Peach and R.O.B. did it best, there was also the gliding mechanic but that was lame and got cut in 4. I'd like to see an aerial-oriented character, if not Ridley then someone else, who's an anti-Little Mac of sorts that excels in the air but has a flying mechanic like R.O.B.'s up special that has to recharge after use and they're kinda sluggish on the ground to balance it out.

I think we'll get a new Metroid, and Zelda rep. AA DK rep would be fairly likely as well for a newcomer, and I think there will be at least one more character that nobody fucking wanted.

This is the only SSB4 theory I've ever accepted, I'm strongly confident in it but don't necessarily regard it as gospel (I never do, and people laughed at me when I said Gematsu had the possibility to be wrong even if some of its past and future predictions are right). Ghirahim seems kinda likely, I don't know about Ridley as much as I'd like him. I think we'll get a Ghirahim reveal before release and the Metroid rep will be left as a secret unlockable. Sakurai has been Ridleybaiting since nearly right after the game was revealed, and will probably be Ridleybaiting to the bitter end. Anyone think that most of the unlockable characters are going to be villains? I could totally see Pokey, K. Rool, Ganondorf, Girahnim, Mewtwo, and Ridley being in the roster, but unlockables. Impa really should have just taken Sheik's place, at this point I get the feeling she'd just wind up being a clone. None of the other potential Zelda characters feel like they have a good shot, though. Ghirahim is a one shot character in the same league as Zant and Skull Kid and the only thing he really has going for him is that he's relatively new.

People thought we'd get a "villains trailer" that'd introduce all the unconfirmed villain/antagonist vets as well as Ridley or K. Rool or whoever, but with Metaknight announced all on his own that doesn't feel very likely anymore. Making a ton of villains all secret characters like that is even less likely, I think Sakurai would want to diversify character unlocks instead of giving you six villains in a row. There's probably only 3-5 unconfirmed newcomers anyway.

It'd still make things difficult to tell from a glance. This is basically why Sakurai chose Falco over Wolf in Melee, and when he did add Wolf he made sure to give him a wildly different posture.

I suppose you could argue that they could do the same for Dark Pit but Dark Pit really doesn't deserve that sort of effort, and I don't think you could logically have him skulk around like a beast or something.
