Only thing i didnt like was that enemies get boosted agility if youre a certain number of levels lower than them, forcing you to grind or use gems to just to hit them when maybe you just wanted some extra difficulty

Some of the best atmosphere ever in any game. If the battling was taken out completely I'd have enjoyed it, the world was just so good. Can't believe they fit that all on the Wii. I've never beaten it though. I couldn't get past that bitch in Bionis Interior. she was 2good4me.

It's a little known fact that the best part of the game is the banter. The whole game is written like badly translated anime horseshit until after a battle, when suddenly the characters address each other in natural, flowing english. It's like night and day and it's the weirdest thing. They say some of the most charming things i've ever heard RPG characters say to one another and it's like a secret present for people who endure the game's stupidity long enough.

Given that the MC is custom, I doubt it.

Prior games aren't that great about it either. The only playable characters who have more than a few lines of plot irrelevant dialog (I'm loath to call this party dynamics because it barely scrapes the surface) with each other are, like,

- Likeable characters
- The plot was actually interesting.
- I really liked how large and pretty all the areas were.
- The soundtrack is one of the best I've heard in a long, long time. Half of my enjoyment from the game probably comes from the soundtrack and music doesn't normally have that big an impact on me when playing a game, I think.
- Seeing enemy levels vary wildy was nice, I never expected to see level 40 and 70 creatures when I swam across that lake that Colony 9 was settled in.
- Though the areas were all large it was disappointing that there wasn't anything to actually find except maybe items you'd need for a sidequest.
- The sidequests are a perfect example of how not to go sidequests.
- The battle system was alright I guess.
- Bonus points for Norio Wakamoto (not that it's unique, I think he's somehow in every piece of Japanese entertainment, at least otaku entertainment).

I want to say that the game itself is very mediocre, but it's much more than the sum of all its parts and is pretty goddamn fun.

Finished it for the first time today. Took around 50 hours total.

Getting locked out of some important areas when I thought the game was already over was fucked. They at least could've put those art manuals elsewhere afterwards. I also couldn't be arsed to rebuild colony 6 or do many sidequests at all (i.e. no Monado Armor).

I liked the story. It was long enough to feel like you really went somewhere. The whole "killing god because jrpg" shtick didn't bother me, I knew what I was getting myself into.

I played Dunban as a tank nearly the entire time he was available. Naked Dundun allowed me to go after some higher level shit.

I hope when you jap shit eaters bash dubs you aren't thinking of Liam O'Brian and Jamieson Price when you do, because they were stellar in NieR. The whole english cast pretty much outperformed the japanese. But then again for every one game we get like that, we get 3 chaos wars tier.

The voice tracks in Lost Odyssey were also really good but weird, like half of the english cast was bad and the other half was stellar, vice versa for the Japanese. No words for the jap Jensen, that was just sad. Ignore me at this point I'm kind of ranting.

What always bugged me about the whole Shulks romance thing was how they mentioned more than once how those bird fuckers always had a hom as either their king or queen, so I always thought it was a perfect setup for the shulk and melia and then fiora just fucking falls back out of the sky

I know what you mean, I liked the English VA in this game (though I like it in several games, I'm not the kind of guy who thinks that the Japanese VA is automatically superior). Whenever I know a Mumkhar scene is coming up I always wonder if I should switch to Japanese audio (because Norio Wakamoto) or leave it in English because as good as Norio Wakamoto is, I think the English VA fits the character more. Wakamoto is great for grand villains, Mumkhar was just a slimeball and the English VA fit well.

I have a similar conflict with Dickson. He's 40ish (well, he's pretending to be but we all know that he's quite a bit older) but his English VA sounds a couple decades older, his Japanese VA sounds a bit closer to his age range. They're both good though.
