I have two CE's preorder. I want to be extra sure I get mine. And I think I'll keep both of them, because I love to collect Tales stuff. Already have japanese Famitsu DX Edition's of both Xillias.

Also, Xillia 2 is amazing. Sure, it reuses a lot of areas and things like that from Xillia 1, but character episodes and side content is amazing. Overall this is a lot better game than it's predecessor.

I never played Vesperia since no suxbox. Graces was fun as hell at first, but I was completely annoyed and sick of the combat by the end that I stopped using hard mode and upgrading weapons and ending up trying to cheese through the end just to be over with it.

How is Xilia? I got it during a PSN sale just to play it eventually but i've heard alot of shit about it so idk if I want to start it and get annoyed about doing a whole lot of nothing endlessly.

I find thats how most tales games make me feel. Fun at first but they just keep going on and on with all kinds of needless story required side tracking like the cannons and shit in Graces.

That aside, no. Like every tales game it takes until end game until you're able to use the combat more freely. The amount of content, interesting content, trashes both xillias combined, and the game actually have an acceptable story on top of all the content you can do.

And for vesperia PS3 you don't even need NG+ to get the combat moving, by the end game you'll have everything you need and the extra dungeon will get you to level 200 easily.

Hearts R is probably the only that you mentioned that topped vesperia combat/story wise, and it also gets awhile to progress (around end game) and story also tops it. Though, a given, vespie destroys it content-wise.

I want to play it but nothing compares to the original. Not even the original.

Symphonia was the first Tales game I had ever played. I saw it at K-Mart on sale for 20 bucks, but was weary, because I had never heard of the Tales series before. So I head to Game Crazy and see it cheaper, so I consider it fate and pick it up.

I was 16 at the time and I didn't have a lot of games so this one was played a lot. The moment I got home from school I would do my homework and head upstairs to play some Symphonia. I would spend no less than 2 hours on it at a time, sometimes up to 5 or 6. It was just me, a Gamecube, and Symphonia.

And I look back on the grand adventure I had with Lloyd and pals. And I just can't seem to recreate that experience. I know why, and it sucks.

Even with Vesperia, as great as that game is, I just can't get into it, or any game for that matter, like I did Symphonia, those many years ago.

Played all of them, including both versions of hearts, and R doesn't have anything close to the production value of vesperia, so no.

Start with Symphonia, because it's battle system is like the basis for other games to come. That means simple and easy to master.

If you like Symphonia then play Vesperia next. After Vesperia go for Eternia.

You should eventually play Eternia and PS1 remake of Phantasia but I recommend these last because anymore, you may only like them if you are familiar with the series already.

Play Abyss any time after Symphonia but at your own risk, because I know you will like Symphonia and Vesperia but you may not like Abyss. It's characters are dysfunctional and the the overworld is laggy, and the loading times are not so great.

Innocence is good too, and for a DS game it is pretty impressive, but like Eternia and Phantasia, you may only like it if you are used to the franchise.

Never play Tempest. It is the sole reasoning for Namco creating the term escort title so that people understand that this is not a main title in the series.

So Hearts R is only at the top, because some dude heard Baba say it was his favorite, or they played the Jap version and has that opinion of the game. For having very few flaws as a tales game, and you'd have to nitpick hard. The combat is great and every character is a viable main, including Kohak that is a healer who kicks ass in the literal sense.
From likeable characters, to an actual nice story too. Playing both versions of Hearts would be cool since some really good scenes got replaced on R for some more shallow ones.
R still got some good added scenes though.

Nah unlike Vesperia Symphonia actually had a good story instead of a disjointed mess that felt like three completely different plotlines slapped together and its battle system was pretty progressive for its time

And amount of content be damned. Team Symphonia sidequests are the absolute worst, and despite the amount of content, I've had more fun with Tales games with significantly LESS content. The amount of content doesn't matter if its foundation is one of the weaker ones in the series.

How can anyone like Xilia compared to older games. I played 6 hours or so of couch co-op with a friend game seemed fine at first main character was fist fighter which was cool. The lead woman looks retarded though and going from place to place is literally like straightline corriders. Then when we got our 4th party member the fucking fps is battles dropped dramatically. I'd honestly say it was the worst tales game I've ever played.
