>not having played SA2B
and you dare to call yourself a videogame connoiseur
>Caring if someone you don't know played the shitty nostalgia circlejerk game you liked as a child and won't admit is extremely flawed
>Controls like ass.
The controls aren't great but they aren't that bad.
>Every non-sonic level was shit
I disagree, I have fun with every level in the game aside from the the egg chamber and that one other one.
>The sonic levels weren't as good as unleashed/colors/generation's
I haven't played unleashed or colors, and I prefer them over generations.
Seriously, is there anyone here who likes this game that didn't play this game as a kid first?
Not trying to shit on the game or call out those who claim to like it, but it seems to be the overwhelming trend that everyone who loves it first played it as a kid
I find 100%ing games not worth it most of the time. I could never find that Chao on that shadow level of Radical Highway. So I just gave up and farmed my Chaos to level 99 and shit.
Played this game literally for the first time last weekend. I'm really old (almost 30) and I grew up with the Genesis games, barely played the first Adventure game on the DC back in 1999.
I thought it was alright, dialogues are hilariously bad but I could laugh at it, didn't annoy me that much.
I think the game is fun and I can see why so many kids loved this when they played it. It's by no means the best Sonic game, but it has charm.
Definitely not a masterpiece, but not a bad game like many people say.
Dohoho but you will be in just a couple years.
I bet you are already balding and have been fat all your life, hence your projections.
And on top of that, you were a kid back in the early 00s, missing on the glory of the 3rd and 4th gen as a kid. Your childhood sucked, your life sucked, and your death will be sad and lonely. Enjoy your existence.
How do you know OP didn't play it on the DC first?
Battle is the definitive version with more content, better graphics and dat Chao Garden, so I think you, my friend, are the scrub here.
Also stop being a hipster, you probably didn't even own a DC.
After all the time it took me to raise my Chaos and maximize their levels, they all died because i left the game untouched for how so much time.
>people call this the best 3D sonic game with a straight face
It's among the worst, even SA1 was more enjoyable
I played this game pretty recently too. Had a boring summer so I decided to play some Sanic for no reason really. Hadn`t really played Sonic before so I wanted to give him a shot I guess. Ended up downloading this game from the PSN along with a few other Sonic games.
It´s an ok game. I enjoyed Sonic/Shadow stages. I also really liked the treasure hunting stages. They had a nice atmosphere and dope music. Mad Space can go fuck itself though.
The mech shooting on the other hand was horrible. Especially the Tails centered stages. Fuck that pyramid stage.
The bosses were pretty meh too.
But yeah it was okay. I can see why some people still like it.
>Also stop being a hipster, you probably didn't even own a DC.
>implying I didn't play SA2 until the stages wouldn't load correctly and I would fall through the stairs on City Escape
I'll admit to being a dumb kid and not taking the best care of my discs
Also I know Battle is supposed to be the definitive version, but I don't know, there's something about the original version I just prefer. I know it's just me though.
It was one of the few times I got exactly what I wanted for my birthday, I was thrilled.
>Mad Space can go fuck itself though.
What, you don't like flying from one hemisphere of a weird pill shaped asteroid to another, only to have Rouge spazz the fuck out?
I kinda like the Hero Garden in SA2, it's smaller so there's less time trying to hunt down the Chao you need.
Plus it had the animal glitch by the one dropped pillar.
>the best 3D sonic game
What you need to consider is the game's competition.
The only other games in the series that are pure 3D platformers are Adventure, Heroes, Shadow, and 06. Adventure 2 is better than all of those.
Unleashed and Generations switch between running down corridors with minimal platforming, and 2D platforming. I guess the werehog is actual 3D platforming when it isn't too busy being a shitty god of war clone though, so if that's what you like...
Colors is like 90% 2D, and almost all 3D sections focus on a single task like switching rails, quickstepping, or drifting, and have little or no actual platforming in them.
Lost World is just fucking garbage, and also largely 2D.
Looks like garbage even in HD, all the models look awful unless your a furfag and like this kinda stuff.
Every not-sonic level like tails and knuckles are awful, at least knuckles is kinda fast but tails is slow as shit.
I just laugh at how bad it is, every knuckles song is comedy gold.
The problem with Rouge`s stages is that they all have some sort of a bad gimmick.
Security Hall has the timer
Egg Quarters have the beetle sentry.
Mad Space has the gravity fucking you over and it`s just too spacious imo.
Dry Lagoon had the turtle, but that stage was actually fun tbh.
Rouge also had one kart stage for no reason.
I dunno, I feel like Knuckles had the worse pyramid treasure hunting stage, Aquatic Mine was garbage, and while Mad Space is the worst stage in the game bar none, it's not like Meteor Herd is far behind.
Also, Rouge had far better music.
I completely disagree on all points personally.
Knuckles' pyramid stage somehow felt bigger to me and Aquatic Mine was just a lot of fun though it did take me a bit to get used to I suppose, and discovering the Air Necklace was really cool too.
Meteor Herd however is my favorite stage, and being able to drill claw from the high ass ceiling of the stage to the bottom was entertaining, especially if the RNG was strong within you and you managed to dig in on an Emerald shard.
Pumpkin Hill> All of Rouge's songs
I loved all of Knuckles' music
I agree on Rouge having a better pyramid stage.
I really hated those hourglass switches in Sonic and Knux`s stages.
Meteor Herd on the other hand is my favourite. That music man.
It can be a pain in the ass level for sure. Especially if you are trying to go for the 100 rings, but that music anon!
I like all of Knuckles' music as well, but it's with a bit of irony thanks to those lyrics. Everything that isn't the lyrics is fantastic though.
There's no irony with Rouge's music. It's just really fucking good.
Hey man, I've been looking for some tips on my appearance.
I got the fedora down, but what brand of trenchcoats do you recommend? Also, do I get one katana? Dual wield? Or do I grab a nodachi? I could also use some help practicing my jutsus.
Also what do I name the katana(s)/nodachi?
Treasure hunting was shit. The Dreamcast version is even more difficult since you don't get the red exclamation point when you're right over a master emerald shard. Also the radar would hone in on a specific shard and you could pass by others without knowing.
I liked playing as Eggman, but Tails should not have been in a mech.
Not that anon, but I always liked how he rapped about the stages he was in and how the lyrics always had something to do with the stages.
Sure the rap was cheesy as hell, but I enjoyed it.
Dual katanas with some kunai. You want something like leather for your trenchcoat. Make sure the collar's high. Stick with the classics like Chidori for your jutsus, and name your weapons something that shows you don't fuck around, like Darkshadow or Bloodshadow.
Tails being in a mech doesn't really bother me.
What DOES bother me is that his stages focus on slow mech platforming, rather than blasting the fuck out of everything like Eggman's stages. It really doesn't help that for some reason both Eggman and Tails control a little bit worse than Gamma did in the first Adventure, either.
Also, it would have been cool if his mech could transform back into a plane and fly around. Huge wasted potential there.
The game was originally just going to have Sonic, Knuckles, and Eggman playable. After fan outrage they put Tails in and just lazily copied Eggman's level design for him instead of creating his own.
>I just laugh at how bad it is
Just kill yourself.
>all these plebeians saying SA2 was a bad game
Sure, it has some flaws, but no game is perfect, and the game isn't remotely bad, it's a fun 3D platformer and it was praised by everyone when it came out. I love replaying it every now and then (I admit, mostly the Sonic/Shadow stages) and I still rock out some VS mode with my buddies every now and then, I still find the game fun.
I think people who think this game is horrible are trying to be edgy just to fit on /v/'s contrarian/cynic hivemind. Fuck you all faggots, /v/ has always loved SA2, it's neo /v/ who hates this game.
I usually stick up for the game in any Sonic thread where discussion of it comes up, but I think overall the game is sub-par
Sonic/Shadow stages are great, some of Eggman's stages are pretty good, the Chao Garden is nice, and basically everything else is garbage.
It's an enjoyable game if you've already beaten everything and can just replay stages you like and raise Chao, but going through it from start to completion isn't that great an experience.
>it was just as fun as I remembered.
So automatic running stages, shitty treasure hunts, collectible upgrades that have no business in a Sonic game, and game-breaking bugs on nearly every final level?
>played this on Dreamcast
>got it launch day for Gamecube
>over twelve years later, releases on XBLA
>download it Day 1
>controls are God awful, emerald missions are a chore, story is nonsensical, only a few standout levels
Is this a case of me being old, my fun sensors having withered and died over time? Or was the game always trite with my childlike glee for Sonic the only thing that made it likeable?
I don't think SA2 is bad, but I'm pretty sure I'd enjoy it a lot more if the camera wasn't complete ass. I remember spending a good bit of time in the Chao garden back in the day, but now I don't find myself going back to it that much.
Same here, but Steam version is worse.
game is still good, but the issues are way more apparent. plus after beating it so many times, I find it a chore to beat it again. at least there is cheat engine to have a little fun with it.
Knuckles killed sa2. His mission shows the gameplay down to a hault. So tediously boring and always the same shit. This douche is put in charge of protecting emeralds and he always losses them. They still haven't fired him. Waifus killed sonic
>all that time spent trying to fight King Boom Boo
>tfw he keeps turning around when trying to chase him down after an attack
>tfw going bounding off the walls trying to chase the fucker down before the sunlight stops
I swear I almost turned off my Xbox trying that again, that was one of the worst boss fights I ever had the displeasure of doing.
You are aware your opinion is not only that of a faulty fanboy with no self esteem, but also completely wrong, right?
Now, the Adventure 1 DX port on Gamecube, that one was shit.
I played it, and it was shit, like every other Sonic game after S&K
and it hurts because I really want good Sonic games again, but Generations has all but proven Sonic Team either doesn't know how to make classic Sonic games, or simply doesn't care enough to
>Now, the Adventure 1 DX port on Gamecube, that one was shit.
Maybe it's just me, but DX on anything BUT the GameCube is complete fucking garbage. I can barely get through a single level on either PC version of DX without running into some stupid glitch that kills me, while on the GameCube I had this problem significantly less often.
Anytime I want to play DX, I use Dolphin. It just works better for me.
Now if you're saying DX is inferior to the Dreamcast version... maybe. DX is sort of mixed bag. It improves some stuff, but it fucks up some other stuff.
People in their 40s grew up with 2nd gen consoles, Atari, Colecto, etc.
You're probably arguing with a guy who's 25+.
Kids who were kids during the DC/GC era are now barely adults, probably still with a 14 year old mindset, all things considered.
> Chao Garden Stand alone.
> Games you get in other Sonic games transfer over to Garden, along with Drives and Animals based on your Rank, what badnicks are destroyed, etc.
> New games introduce updates for more eggs, toys, lessons, races, and animal parts.
> Online Chao races, fights. You can even bet rings on other players fights.
Ruined by being able to buy rings with real money. Or play new Sonic games like Sonic Boom, voted best game of E3! Special codes can be found in Sonic Boom merchandise!
>Rings you get in other Sonic games transfer over to garden
I feel like this would be a bad thing because that one level in Sonic 4 Episode I that gives you a million lives would probably be one of the best ways to get rings quickly, and I don't want to play that shitty game.
Oh they were better days, when 3D meant "first person dungeon crawler RPG" and consoles actually had distinct libraries. None of this online multiplayer subscription fad you whippersnappers eat up so happily.
>It hasn't aged if it's better than most modern sonic games.
That's not exactly saying much, pretty much every Sonic game in the 21st century is a piece of shit. That said...
>I dare you to find a better chao garden-like thing
What does that have to do with being a good Sonic game?
Was there even a significant difference on the controls, besides the fact they use different controllers? I played both version and I don't remember any difference. In fact I think I enjoyed the GC controls better due to GC controllers being more comfy.
I see, but I don't remember ever using more than 1 button on SA2, so button placement was never an issue to me, at least with this game.
Both analogue sticks were about the same though.
