Neptunia's combat system needs to be rebuilt from the ground up by competent devs. The main problem is that they want party members to be unique from a gameplay standpoint, but it's too simple at its core to handle a large cast of unique units without just making the mass majority of them mediocre or useless.

Don't get me wrong, she's great for tossing magical items, but by the end of the game her utility is reduced to throwing Psychedelic Bomb X and then being a retard for the rest of the battle. Sure she can heal, but so can Meru, who gets twice as many turns in a round, has decent physical power (if you factor in how often she's attacking with her retardedly high speed,) also cures status, does it all for less MP, and has strong offensive magic.

Shana is good throughout her entire run because of how early in the game you get her and what a godsend she is up until the point when you don't need her, and by that point she's Miranda.

Cooke and Mack were worthless. Cooke is a waste of a slot considering you can get Black + White magic absurdly easily, and Mack is only good for leeching Shaman magic from him. Tolten is worthless in general, Sed is amazing, and Jensen is actually a decent Black Magic user.

He seems to fit the bill. Colorless alignment, finishing blow on Divine Dragon, HAD the dragoon spirit, and clearly the strongest candidate for it. Cielo was worse than useless in the first volume. Having him in the active party pretty much guaranteed that the enemy would get twice as many turns, whereas not having anyone at all meant that you only missed out on one turn.

I ran on the expert grid, so getting Holy before macalania wasn't an option, and that itself was pants on head retarded, costing 80 odd MP.

I didn't move anyone until Luca, where I had x2 HP spheres from Lord Ochu, the Magic and HP sphere from Luca, and the strength sphere for winning the Blitzball game against Luca Goers.

The only exception was Tidus getting haste before the S.S.Liki so I could grind Sinspawn with Wakka/Tidus/Kimahri until overdrive modes were attained.

At Mi'hen Highroad, I made sure everyone took those boosts, and then sent Kimahri into Rikku's grid for Steal + Use, he followed this grid, grabbing nice Agility and the occasional Magic boost.

The intention was to have Kimahri have hard hitting overdrives while getting the gauge filled as often as possible.

Without decent strength, filling the gauge would be hard, so I used Slayer overdrive to have Kimahri kill as much as possible with Fire/Aqua Breath to minimize his downtime/usefulness

At Sinspawn Gui, his fire breath did 7.1k Damage to all of the body parts once Lulu used Focus 5 times, which was pretty damn impressive, but for an overdrive expected, though he did do much more than the remainder of the party at that point.

By Seymour, I had Reflect and Dispel on Kimahri, taking him to Yuna's grid from Rikku's, having a solid Agility and gaining large Magic boosts from Yuna's grid.

At Bevelle, he was teleported to Wakka's grid, as Wakka provides the best overall strength gain, and the accuracy is nice too (Auron has high base stats, but his grid is quite subpar, if only to backtrack with others end-game for good boosts)

Then Kimahri was damage capped with his overdrives, and hit for about 3-4k by the time I fought Flux, whereas Tidus/Auron were hitting a good 7k+ per hit


The Blue Magic being limited to overdrives made it hard for Kimahri to be useful basically

Sharla so bad of a crutch that it tricks you into thinking that her dedicated healer job is necessary when she is really actually holding your team back because she doesn't help much at maintaining tension for stuff like chain attack.

Melia is incredible dps if you manually control her and good buffs. She also have 100% success rate cheap topple, and her earth element DOT gets to insane dps if you use it at max chain.

Riki is great for debuffs and insane amount of DOT options, which gets insanely strong in chain attacks. Not to mention, he is also one of the few characters to get AOE heal.

Dunban is a great evasion tank with great reliable damage and could have great damage in a chain attack too.

Seven is absolutely beastly at normal attack dps and crowd control spell damage. Have her dip into other character skill set (especially dunban's), and you have a character that can double attack off each dagger attack on each hand, which also lifesteal. So she can pretty much maintain her own health, even with her frenzy skill.
This also allows her to build up her talent gauge incredibly fast, so she can either use the AOE cannon or bit drone limit break option, or the INCREDIBLE single target sword drones.

Shulk goes without saying, but Reyn only really shines at late game with his low cooldown topple and daze options.

Get the Death Sentence move from Cave of Gi and the Powersoul Weapon from the Materia Cave where you fought the big spider boss.

Kill Tifa, resurrect her and then cast Death sentence on her at the start of boss fights. With this and the Deathblow materia, she will be doing 16 times as much damage and it will stack with double attack materia. Just slot it to deathblow.
