Every day, I see so many threads asking something along the lines of "Why does Sonic have such an autistic fanbase?" or "Where did it all go so wrong?"
This isn't one of those threads.
•This isn't a thread for cringe.
•This isn't a thread for complaining about the fanbase, or trying to dissect the series' appeal to autists.
•This isn't a thread asking when Sonic went to shit.
•This isn't a thread for "Sonic was always shit."
•This isn't a thread for getting mad, and/or insulting others, or trying to make others mad.
This is a thread for... Actually discussing Sonic. What do you like about the games? What don't you like about them? What, to you, does the character represent? What would you like to see in future games?
>This isn't a thread for getting mad, and/or insulting others, or trying to make others mad.
Son you've come to the wrong site if that's the case.
Amy is mai waifu
Am I missing out on Sonic Colors? I played the first world and got bored, didnt like how it's several acts, some of them being less than a minute long. Also I kind of want to play Sonic and the Secret Rings again since i dont remember much about it besides WHO'S GONNA ROCK THE PLACE and the final boss.
why did they make knuckles so big?
I played Sonic games on the mega drive back in the day and I really liked them, even though I was pretty young and shit at videogames.
I haven't played a sonic game since, but I got Sonic lost world free with mario kart (I had everything else or didn't want it) and it's... okay, I guess. Not really impressive, but okay. Are all 3D sonics like that?
Tfw erecting a throne room with two Amy statues on each side of the throne in Portable 2
Colours was pretty hit or miss with the level design. Overall, I don't think it was handled as well as in Unleashed or Generations, but there were still some fun levels in the game.
Pretty much, one or two acts in each zone got all the attention, and then all the other acts were thrown in as afterthoughts, and some are less than like... 20 seconds long.
You know, as much as I can't stand the sports tape or the
blue arms, I do really dig Amy's redesign. And I'm not the biggest fan of the character or anything, but her new design does look pretty rad. Plus, from everything we've seen of the game/show, she seems to be more competent and mature, and less annoying now, so that's pretty good news.
I don't really know why I still like Sonic, I just do. I guess it's because I really like platformers and don't worry about the negative stigma the series carries.
Some people are peer pressured so easily. I have a friend who loves video games, but calls anyone who plays Sonic a furry faggot. He called me a furry for buying Klonoa. And he's not generally an insulting kind of guy, he's just deeply afraid of being associated with furries.
>Amy will never have her own 3D adventure game
Dr. Eggman is the best thing that has ever come out of the franchise, all iterations of him.
I was pretty into sonic as a kid (born 98) up till sonic adventure 2 and then I just stopped giving a fuck, watched the ultra autistic fanbase reveal itself and started giving even less fucks, but now maybe it's time to give the new ones a try.
>you will never play a game as Amy
>she will never have the athleticism shown in Sonic Boom mixed in with DMC/Platinum tier combat
>you will never fuck up the Robotnik Empire with complex combos, wrecking shit with that hammer
Unless you have a fursuit you're actively making it a point to have people respect your shit as a lifestyle choice you're not a furry. Dick slap your friend
I'm actually gon' second this.
Regardless of what version Eggman's great.
Which one's your fav, anon?
I've only ever played the 3DS version (and only the demo, at that), though I have watched gameplay videos of the entire game. From what I've observed, what people don't like about it is that it's just too experimental. It moves away from a formula that Sonic Team was really starting to get into a groove with, and tries all sorts of weird things. Some of them are good ideas, some are pretty bizarre, and some faceplant pretty hard. Overall it's not a terrible game, from what I've seen, just not a great one either.
Man, I feel you so hard. I still love Sonic and his games, but I don't like... LOVE THEM love them, like certain rather vocal fans do. I just think they're simple, fun platformers, with a likable-enough protagonist. But I always feel like I'll be crucified for mentioning anywhere that I like Sonic games.
I love the speed of this game, soo much fun mastering a level and being able to boost through it without being slowed down or stopping, soo much fun.
I can't be the only one who was actually okay with Knuckles' redesign. Knuckles was always the muscle of the group, and originally this was reflected through the overall aggro-vibe he had, as well as the spikes on his gloves. Here, the way I see it, they just improved his design. To better convey to viewers/gamers that "Yep, he's definitely the team muscle" they bulked up his upper body and arms. It may look weird to some but it's definitely an improvement in character design. This goes for everyone else as well. Take the wrench away from Tails and you can still look at him and tell he's the genius gadgeteer. You can tell Sonic runs, as he has longer legs than the rest of the cast (save for Knuckles) and a scarf to protect against wind chill. Their designs are definitely an improvement, I'd say.
And Amy...well I don't know about her but I like her outfit, it makes her look way cuter.
That shit hurts man. Guess I'll have to settle for Sonic boom.
>This is a thread for... Actually discussing Sonic.
But there's nothing to talk about. The character is an unlikeable douchebag and most mascot platformers of the time kick the shit out of Sonic's Genesis games.
Why didn't this character end up like Crash or Spyro I will never know.
His game one is personally my favourite, but that's because I've been seeing his laughing moustached face since I started playing games, the fact he now embraces Sonic like an old friend is kind of heartwarming to me.
The SATAM version I never really liked too much, too evil.
RRRRRRRROBOTNIC is beautiful though.
Comic version get's a 10/10, even if only for the insane moments.
No you fucking don't, there hasn't been a single good word said about it and some are even calling it WORSE than 06. Never settle.
I'm with you. Sonic Boom looks worse with every preview vid I see.
The DMC-style combat looks awful and they decided to make it a core gameplay mechanic.
>Amy Rose 3D Adventure game
>DMC combat with the Piko Hammer
>Pole-vaulting and other crazy platforming with the hammer
>unlock costumes and dress Amy in whatever you feel suits her best
>WORSE than 06.
Is that even possible. The game would have to play like a lemon to be that bad.
It practically sells itself
>Redesigning the iconic modern sonic characters
>Made by shitty no-name devs instead of based sonicteam
>cartoon tie in
>Made by shitty no-name devs instead of based sonicteam
>not a single fappable new character
>Made by shitty no-name devs instead of based sonicteam
>no sign of blaze anywhere
>Made by shitty no-name devs instead of based sonicteam
Did I mention the fact that it isn't fucking made by sonic team?
It's fucking hilarious how much people jizzed their dicks off over Sonic Generations. A decent at best Sonic game being praised like a god just because Sonic games before that were mediocre or shit for a long time.
Can't wait for the Sonicfags who will get defensive towards this post even tho it is true. Yes even Colors was a mediocre game.
>implying it's just them saying it
Watch any hands on preview, go on fucking do it. Everyone is complaining, and if it's so bad even normals are complaining, you've got one hell of a shit bomb.
Apparently it does, the mechanics are uninspired and clunky, the "speed" parts are novelty at best and badly handled, the boss fights are phoned it, fuck seriously watch a preview or two and see for yourself.
SatAM calls to me.
Methinks I need to set aside a day away from work to binge once again.
I don't like the idea of pigeonholing them into "gadgeteer" and "muscle". That's lame and makes them even more one dimensional.
Also it was funny that knuckles was this short skinny dude with this big ego and attitude. Like short man syndrome, joe peshi kinda thing that I'll miss.
What I like about 2D:
Levels were built around momentum and Sonic was given tools to take care of enemies and traverse the terrain while maintaining his momentum.
Speed was reward for being able to maintain and build momentum and became harder to keep as you went faster meaning it required more skill to go faster.
The challenge was using Sonic's abilities to get to the end of the level.
Big Arm, that nigger could kill Super Sonic and has the single most bad ass final boss theme to exist and be remade
What I like about 3D:
Not the SA games
Speed is now the root of the game, meaning the reward for keeping the speed is being able to flow through the level and has a boost to help him maintain that speed. The skill now comes in using the same reflexes as 2D to avoid obstacles to keep that speed but in 3D.
Levels are based around going fast and reacting to the changing environment.
The challenge is now no longer in getting to end but HOW you got to the end, meaning the levels become more replayable as you can always get better at them as you play. You are graded for how proficient you are at flowing through the level and in Generations case, rewarded with unlockables for S-ranks.
Music. Hot damn the music in the 3D games outclass the 2D games so hard it's hard to believe. Even 3D does Big Arm better than 2D, and that's really hard for me to admit.
I'm really tired of people bitching that 3D isn't as complex or as good as 2D. They are two completely different fucking products that have two different fucking standards they go by. I will agree with people saying Gens Classic Sonic is not as good as 2D Sonic since his max speed was capped, making momentum much less of a factor in his gameplay.
>Implying you can't fap to Sticks
Also, the redesigns are well-done and make sense for their characters, see >>257527787
Aye-yo, that's some hardcore shit. Any hopes for the cartoon?
So is anyone else probably going to get Sonic Boom knowing full well that it won't be good?
From what i've heard the cartoon is hit and miss, some parts are alright, others make you want to change channel although i've heard a lot of "not as good as the first episode" thrown around a lot.
Why would i waste my money?
I feel like it's one of those games that people will play with such astronomically low expectations that it will be passably fun. Like Sonic 06 except you know it's bad before playing it.
I think it will be best played late at night, overtired, gamepad only.
3D Sonic's have a string of missing the mark for one reason or another. Sometimes they come really close to being something exceptional and then bungle it pretty hard with retarded design decisions. The Adventures are rooted more firmly in the movement systems of the classics only with collision detection issues and too many playstyle variations that don't have much to do with one another. Heroes is more of a fast paced platformer that does its own thing but returns to the more surreal worlds of the classics. Shadow the Hedgehog is Sonic Heroes with shitty guns and vehicles. Sonic 2006 is Adventure style in concept but utterly foreign in execution as everything from controls, to movement, to the engine is Big Rigs tier quality. Unleashed, Colors, and Generations are their own Sonic Rush boost style gameplay that focus too much on going fast to the point where there isn't much else to do but run down a shiny corridor, but it does go fast pretty well and each successive title improves the formula bit by bit, though each does different things.
Lost World is the new thing Sonic Team is trying to chase the Mario dollar and going full retard in it's implementation. It's polished for what it is and its got more legacy throwbacks than Generations did. What would be very welcome additions like the parkour system becomes completely fucked as stages are are still designed with the mentality of the previous playstyle only with a jarring mess of gimmicks that take precedence over typical Sonic level design. Not to mention the slog that are the slow, linear, and by far the worst 2D stages and bosses the series has to offer. A few significant tweaks to movement abilities and more traditional Sonic world design and Lost World would have been a lot more than a Lost Cause.
Sonic Boom just looks to be slapping Sonic colored paint on a shoddy PS2 era platformer and looking more mediocre than it sounds.
I pretty much agree on everything except the music. I prefer the 16-bit music over the wannabe-80s-glam-rock of the Adventure era, or even the orchestral pop themes of the "Modern" era.
Not to say that the "Modern" era music is bad, because it certainly isn't.
So anyone tried the demo for Sonic Overture? It came out at recently at SAGE 2014 and it's actually pretty good.
So that you can have ALL of the Sonic games in your collection.
Depends where you live.
I have some handheld Sonic's, Sonic for the Master system and Mega Drive, emulate the other MD Sonic games, and Generations for PC. I'm not interested in the others.
I am aware of this. Feel free to prove me wrong with a game I forgot about, though. I could always use another thing to complain about.
IIRC Overture is basically expanding on unused prototype Sonic 1 stuff. Namely the running animations, Green Hill's mock up design, and other concept art that was thrown around.
>freedom planet fans are the /mlp/ fans of gaming
Fixed what was in dire need of fixing.
I haven't seen that happen yet. Most Sonic autism comes from highly impressionable kids and teens taking the world and characters too seriously. Game discussion doesn't really get too bad.
>What do you like about the games?
Good soundtrack, quality platforming and colourful worlds.
>What don't you like about them?
It's aimed at retarded children, terrible cut scenes, poorly implement level design and mechanics, ugly character design.
>What, to you, does the character represent?
'90s attitude and speed.
>What would you like to see in future games?
Good soundtrack, quality platforming and colourful worlds.
Decent level design.
Perhaps an ironic piss take on its '90s attitude with a Michael Jackson inspired soundtrack.
I'd not call it worse than 06, not the Wii U version. It'll probably be a bland, soulless, generic co-op platformer beat-em-up (jesus christ it's literally a western Jak & Daxter-esque take on the speedy day stages and werehog platforming/beat-em-up stages, plus lasso equivalent for stretchy arms, of Unleashed?) but the only way a game can inherently be worse than 06 is if it's so bad it's not even amusingly bad.
The 3DS version looks average, but in comparison to the Wii U version it looks like a fucking masterpiece, and Richard Jacques is even in on its soundtrack.
Sometimes Sonic fans terrify me
Better made than the official Zelda timeline.
>Colors better than Gens
>complaining about holding X when there are whole stages of just doing that in Colors
>implying the games are just holding X
Your opinions are horrid.
>implying the games are actually hold X to win and you aren't just parroting
There are videos making fun of people that say this.
Currently playing through Sonic the Hedgehog 4.
It takes some getting used to because the homing attack is broken but I am actually enjoying myself.
I play with the music on mute though.
I hate how the developers seemed to give up towards the end of the game though. All the quicktime levels, daytime acts too short, etc.
At first I was like "Why do people hate this game? The werehog isn't even that bad!" and then I played it more. :|
echidna have four-headed penises you fool
Somehow on one hand, I overanalyze shit myself. I tried to make sense of the plot holes in Sonic '06, god fucking forbid, but all I found was a wall of despair and confusion. I tried to make sense of GUN's flipping out and killing everyone but Gerald and Shadow on the ARK from both Adventure 2's perspective on the matter and Shadow's own game in perspective, and the former doesn't even have context other than "OH NO HE MADE SOME ULTIMATE HEDGEHOG, KILL -EVERYONE-" to Final Fantasy VII Shinra levels of extreme actions and stupidly pointless mass murdering / cover-ups.
Yet somehow i'm torn between not trying to give much of a fuck for timeline and continuity, and not wanting this goddamn simple "Eggman does something, Sonic finds out / stumbles in, stops Eggman and maybe some other thing at the end of the day" shit they keep doing. I should never want more complex stories in Sonic ever again after the clusterfucks of terrible writing in ShTH and 06, but this Saturday morning cartoon stuff doesn't satisfy me either.
What the hell is wrong with me?
Some of the music is actually good.
Not all of it.
Perhaps not even much of it, but some of it. I'm actually glad they used the invincibility theme from Sonic 4 as the Super Sonic theme in Generations, because it's upbeat, catchy, and carries the triumphant sort of tone that you would expect of Super Sonic (especially in the cutscenes that song is played in).
If only Super Sonic in levels in Generations actually had music (and didn't suck in general).
I've got an online "friend" that goes by the name of Twinbee, and delusionally loves Sonic 06. She doesn't even acknowledge its indisputable flaws, like the many glitches.
I figured there was a chance you were her
considering how few people like '06
I guess GUN could have found out about Gerald's "agreement" with Black Doom and not known about his intended betrayal but that'd be assuming a lot since this shit wasn't revealed until much later but fits in nicely. Guess the devs realized that the ARK shit didn't make any sense.
It's also okay to want a form of complexity in something and have to be performed with some standard.
so would classic sonic have been improved if sonic stuck to the furthest edge on the screen from the direction in the level he was travelling? it would give the play a slight bit longer to repond
I played the PS3 version, and I can, with 100% honesty, say that the game was less glitchy than Sonic Adventure on the Gamecube. I mean, I never fell through the fucking floor randomly in 06.
So people have figured out how to change sounds, and one guy even replaced the entire Episode 1 soundtrack with acapella. Why has no one modded the PC versions of either, or both, episodes with proper Genesis-style remixes instead of the awful, soulless synth they used? Or has there been few good enough remixes to really bother?
Yeah, it's pretty logical someone ratted Gerald out, perhaps the heterochromiac shit that'd become the GUN Commander who witnessed the whole thing (and it's the only goddamn way that'd ever explain why HE survived the genocide, too, yet it doesn't make sense how he doesn't know GUN did it themselves). But that only makes sense with context from Shadow's game, and it's pretty clear they weren't thinking that far ahead with Adventure.
I can't even believe I just said Shadow helped something make sense.
>glitches you can do
Intentional glitches are not worth anything in my book. The minus world glitch doesn't detract from SMB.
As it stands, I've never had the homing attack fail to lock on to an enemy in front of me and I've never fallen through the floor while going around a turn.
It gets worse.
Silver is my favorite character.
Sonic 4 isn't that bad. It's bland and less interesting than New Super Mario Bros because it doesn't even try to really do much but be a classic-style Sonic game except not. I get the physics are shit, Episode 1 is one giant ripoff of the past games with some new gimmicks thrown around and so forth, but it really isn't as bad as everyone makes them out to be.
yeah this would be best, i was just thinknig the camera would pan backwards slowly, have the camera shift backwards/forwards considerably with the press of the left/right arrow would be horrible
"Playing" a snowboard level is not intentionally glitching the game.
Having Sonic fly off the edge when I start a mach segment is not intentional.
Stick to walls and sliding off is not intentional.
Performing the homing attack is not intentioinal.
I was saying that's what they do. Why do you think the screen has to catch up when someone uses a glitch to speedrun a level.
Well, I never found it that bad myself at least. Granted, I never completed it because Mad Gear can suck a cock, but despite being really overly critical I never felt like faulting it too harshly. Probably because I already had low expectations for years beforehand and thus knew I was diving into something that makes Sonic Advance 1 look far, far better than it truly is. Not to knock Advance 1, I love that game, but it wasn't exactly a winner either.
>The challenge is now no longer in getting to end but HOW you got to the end, meaning the levels become more replayable as you can always get better at them as you play
This. Personally, I think not many people can get behind that and I consider it rather cheap tactic to increase replay value, but I luv it.
>Poor man's Mario
>Mega drive originals
Kill yourself you mouth breathing retard.
I loved the speed of Sonic Adventure that also worked with incorporating multiple paths to complete stages. I understand it's a shit game but for whatever reason, it feels smooth to me
I don't like the Generations/Unleashed jazz because it's just running in a straight line while holding the boost button. Arguably this is what Sonic should have been as his 3D debut but it feels very boring to me
For clarification, I said "proper", not "paper", but this is an interesting topic. I've thought before about how a "Paper Sonic" would work. Unfortunately, it seems like a lot of Sonic's core elements wouldn't really translate well to the "paper" style.
I don't know. How do you think something like that would work?
It's shit because the speed is uncontrollable because of the third dimension added to the game and the controls and camera not being good in any form.
>because it's just running in a straight line while holding the boost button
You have no idea what you're talking about.
Well it'd sure as fuck work better than Chronicles, that's for sure. Sonic speeding around would probably not be an easy mechanic to create for an RPG, but it doesn't mean they couldn't be inventive somehow.
There's that word again. The one you don't know how to use.
I watched a stream of Shadow the Hedgehog recently and I forgot how bad the models looked. It's like they took the Sonic Heroes' models and made them worse somehow.
Music was pretty good though.
>We will never have semi-relevant Archie characters in the games
>We will instead have Sonic Boom fuck up the main cast some more with side characters who we will never see again
Apparently they already are rivals
I enjoyed Lost Worlds and rank it the third best 3d sonic game.
In the new Mario & Sonic, the corresponding characters seem to be:
Mario - Sonic
Luigi - Tails
Peach - Amy
Daisy - Blaze
Yoshi - Silver
Wario - Knuckles
Waluigi - Shadow
Donkey Kong - Vector
Bowser Jr. - Metal Sonic
Bowser - Eggman
>>complaining about holding X when there are whole stages of just doing that in Colors
The difference is, it was done well in Colours and overused in Generations. There were large sections of every level in Generations that were basically the Sonic equivalent of a QTE - hit L/R at just the right moment or fail the QTE.
Also I don't recall Colours having a half assed Classic section for every level that was bland and uninspired. There's good levels in Generations, but they're few and far between, while Colours has a lot more diversity in their level layouts.
>inventor/creator taking over world from another world
>demon that requires a sacrifice to be resurrected
>magical seemingly-jolly secondary villian that undermines the main villian
These have been done before, they are not trends.
And the wisps are just as uninspired and half-assed. They could have spent that time making the levels actually good instead of shoehorning a stupid gimmick in. Try again.
>"Colors is the best sanic game ever"
>But Generations is terrible
>"lol physics xD" The fuck does that even mean?
>GC Box Arts
>Loves both Wii games
Ok I get it. You're a moron. From reading all the unnecessary text on your picture here, I can tell there's not a original thought in your head.
At least two of those greentexts were actually interesting and well-implemented characters when they were introduced.
Though of course, Sonic characters do have a tendency to overstay their welcome.
By that logic, the first game in any given franchise is always edgy, no matter what, because whatever happens in that game has never happened in that franchise before, even if it's cliché as fuck and has been a thing in other franchises since the dawn of fiction.
>And the wisps are just as uninspired and half-assed. They could have spent that time making the levels actually good instead of shoehorning a stupid gimmick in. Try again.
Try what again? It's an opinion I'm elaborating on you twat.
In that case, explain Generations...
>Horrible classic engine
>Horrible boost sections
>Lack of levels
>Reliance on nostalgia
>Planet Wisp in general
>Dumbed down gameplay in regards to boost
>Uninspired boss sections
>Borderline BROKEN final boss
Let's hear it.
I get that but at the same time the first two games made the point that Tails and Yoshi were better rivals because they are both sidekicks with no matching abilities like Mario/Luigi Sonic/Shadow.
>deflecting onto me
Nice try. You can wallow in the realization that you're calling something shit while eating something very much the same.
Not yet, anon. Save it for when we reach over 300 posts.
When you have an established series, with an established premise that's intentionally very reminiscent of a Saturday morning cartoon, going into "sacrificing in order to summon a demon" territory is edgy. By definition.
>And the wisps are just as uninspired and half-assed
Hold on there, sonny jim. How the fuck are they "uninspired and half-assed" when they're woven in to the game in a meaningful way, feature new gameplay mechanics, and for most of the levels completely optional? If anything, Generations in general is "uninspired and half-assed" considering the story and core gameplay. It's just an expansion on the worst part of the day stages in Unleashed, coupled with the boring classic stages.
>Old unnecessary character is given a free ride because she has a vagina
Unless Amy wasn't in those 5 you mentioned.
No, no Zelda game is particularly edgy, with the exception of Majora's Mask.
>Nice try. You can wallow in the realization that you're calling something shit while eating something very much the same.
>Hurrr I-I'm n-not even g-going to argue, it's not worth my t-time....
Cry more little bitch. Enjoy your shit taste.
Tales, Knuckles and Amy have backgrounds, though.
As far as I can tell, characters like Metal Sonic, Vector, Espio, etc, are only ever brought in to games when they need to fill out a roster or play up to nostalgia. They're completely undeveloped for the most part.
Modern Archie comics are fun. Quality was noticeably dropping after Genesis arc, Penders didn't help at all, but right now they're doing fine. I kinda miss pre-Genesis wave world, though.
>Mfw the rewrote the backstory to a link to the past to better suit Ocarina of time's narrative.
Could give exactly 2 shits about Sonic's chronology, but that lame excuse of a Zelda fanfiction trident can go fuck itself 6 ways from Sunday.
If they aren't completely useless, they are completely pointless.
>expansion on the worst part of the day stages in Unleashed
It's the fucking same. What the hell are you even trying to say?
>my opinions are better than your opinions
And this is why I'm done replying to these dumbass posts.
Read above. I don't have to push my opinions as fact on the internet to show that I don't doubt my own taste. You're the only one here with shit taste and you're not even sure it's what you really believe.
>Read above. I don't have to push my opinions as fact on the internet to show that I don't doubt my own taste. You're the only one here with shit taste and you're not even sure it's what you really believe.
I'm not pushing opinions as fact, it's called arguing a point you fucking retard. You know, discussion and such? Since you're backing out like a little bitch I can only assume you're one of these "muh opinion is gold" fags
As a fan of the older games I'd love nothing more than a nostalgia fanwank 2D platformer akin to Rayman Origins.
Beautifully drawn characters and environments, get rid of double jump and try to make the platforming momentum based.
As much as I love eggman's VA I'd cut the voice acting, costs too much for how little it really does for the game.
Design wise I'd like the characters to look something like the sonic CD/OVA drawings.
Most of the fanbase now enjoy the many characters, poor dialogue and... lore?
Going back to do a 2D thing would be a risk and I think the closest we'll get will be generations (which was a nice idea but really just highlighted how shit the games have gotten)
Either that or reboot the series and base your gameplay and design philosophy off the sonic CD intro, just take that going fast around massive environments and make that into a video game.
>I'm not pushing opinions as fact
>>Horrible classic engine
>>Horrible boost sections
>>Lack of levels
>>Reliance on nostalgia
>>Planet Wisp in general
>>Dumbed down gameplay in regards to boost
>>Uninspired boss sections

I had to. I wouldn't mind if you kept going, honestly. I can see your readiness to defend Colors and how funny this could end up.
>>expansion on the worst part of the day stages in Unleashed
>It's the fucking same. What the hell are you even trying to say?
Last I checked, in Unleashed you have to conserve your boost for sections where you can gun it, while in Generations, literally EVERYTHING charges your meter so it encourages you to gun it at every opportunity, instead of conserving it for appropriate sections. Hell, the game has actually gone out of its way to shoehorn in vast sections of every level where you're supposed to boost through them with minimal input all to, presumably, just enjoy the scenery, which isn't very video-gamey.
>>my opinions are better than your opinions
>And this is why I'm done replying to these dumbass posts.
Argue your opinion better, then. So far you're appearing standoffish as if your opinion, or whatever opinion you're parroting, is the only relevant one. Stop being an ass and raise some points of your own if you don't like it.
Where do you draw that line though?
Tails was introduced for the sake of giving Sonic a sidekick. There wasn't really any more depth than that.
Rosy was introduced to give him a (sort of) love interest. She somehow had even less depth than Tails.
Knuckles was brought in to fill a specific role in S3K, and could easily have been dropped after that game (in fact, with his Master Emerald duties, it really would have made more sense canonically if he'd been dropped after S3K or SA1).
Metal Sonic was the latest and greatest in a long line (which we've actually seen, over the course of the past few games!) of Sonic robots, built to compete with Sonic in his greatest strength: his speed. Metal makes for an interesting rival, and unlike Knuckles, doesn't become buddies with Sonic by the end of the game.
Where does the line get drawn, where characters like Rosy and Knuckles were worth bringing back over and over again (with Rosy being renamed and redesigned into the Amy that we now know), but Metal is superfluous?
Don't get me wrong, Metal is superfluous. He served his purpose in Sonic CD. That could have been the end of it. But S3K or SA1 could also have been the end of Knuckles. Sonic CD could also have been the end of Rosy. There was no more reason to bring those characters back than him.
Okay, I'll spell it out
>I'm not pushing opinions as fact
>>In my opinion it has a horrible classic engine
>>In my opinion it has horrible boost sections
>>In my opinion the levels appear rushed
>>In my opinion there's a lack of levels
>>In my opinion there's an over-reliance on nostalgia
>>In my opinoin Planet Wisp is poorly designed
>>In my opinion the gameplay is dumbed down gameplay in regards to boost
>>In my opinion there are uninspired boss sections
>>In my opinion, and in practice, the final boss fight is borderline broken
The whole sacrificial bit was just Zelda being sent to the dark world and being imprisoned there to break the seal around the dark and light worlds. If you want a more accurate comparison just look at skyward sword.
>my opinions are better than your opinions
Is this your first time on /v/ or a message board/forum in general?
Fine, I will.
Not even. It was not hard to get more and keep boost in Unleashed while using it. Only people that can't handle much brain activity fail to do this.
Every 3D Sonic game has been about how well you can make it through the level. Every single one and they have each done it roughly the same quality except colors which shoehorned in bad 2D-esque segments that make you slow down and make Gens Classic Sonic look like 3&K, not to mention it did the same thing regarding boost as Gens, if not worse.
The only person parroting anything is this guy >>257534805 It sounds like he's never even played Generations.
>with Rosy being renamed and redesigned into the Amy that we now know
What the fuck are you on?
>(sort of) love interest
Not even sort of, she's just a fangirl constantly around her husbando. Sonic is too cool to care about romance.
>What the fuck are you on?
What do you mean? The character Rosy the Rascal, from Sonic CD, was later redesigned and renamed Amy Rose (I believe the change occurred in Sonic Adventure 1, but don't quote me on that). It's canonically the same character, just renamed and redesigned. I'm not the one making this shit up, go look it up.
>Not even sort of, she's just a fangirl constantly around her husbando. Sonic is too cool to care about romance.
That wasn't really made a thing until Sonic Adventure. In CD, the ending cutscene vaguely implied that he wasn't really interested in her, but never really made it explicit. Also, the one-sidedness is exactly why I said "sort of".
One way or the other, you're overlooking the meaning of what I was saying: Her role in that game was to be a girl who got kidnapped and Sonic had to go rescue her. It was as shallow as it gets. And yet now she's a core character of the series.
I will fuckin cut you, m8.
>Meanwhile, the followers of Ganon are seeking to kill Link; sprinkling his blood on Ganon’s ashes would bring Ganon back to life
>calling someone basketball
Stop trying to be snarky and do some actual reading.
I'm fine with either. Though a magic hammer wielding berserker is pretty fucking rad.
She was always Amy you fucktard. How couldn't I know she's the same character? She's a hedgehog, she's pink, and she's called Amy. Where the fuck did you get Rosy the Rascal?
>In CD, the ending cutscene vaguely implied that he wasn't really interested in her
Yeah except completely ignoring her in PP and switching to his waiting animation when she hugs him in SS (even if the waiting animation is an ingame thing they obviously set this up). He wants to save her just like he saves anybody. She's comic relief.
I also want Metal Sonic to play a part in some later games along with the classic cast, mind you. But I'd let Amy in too.
Wait, you're right. Fuck me. But her real name was always Amy Rose, I don't know what the name Rosy is supposed to mean.
But look at Sonic. Look at that face. He doesn't look like he's enjoying himself.
Apparently I was mistaken, the name "Rosy" wasn't used in-game in any games (I thought for sure Sonic the Fighters and/or Sonic Drift called her Rosy), but it was used in materials related to Sonic CD at the time. Exactly what materials, I don't know.
>I don't know what the name Rosy is supposed to mean.
It was a play on Rosy the Riveter, a popular WWII-era propaganda campaign.
I was always a Nintendo babby and then a Sony guy, and I never played sonic. Are the original Sonic games on the Master System and Mega Drive still decent to play today (like the old mario games that are pretty much timeless)?
Also, some time ago on /v/ I heard of an indie omg soretro platformer on PC that was like sonic but with melee combat, was that any good?
Yeah the Mega Drive games are still great to this day, and I'm assuming you're talking about Freedom Planet there. I found FP pretty good overall because off it's level design, boss fights and music, I'd recommend at least pirating it.
>I was always a Nintendo babby and then a Sony guy, and I never played sonic. Are the original Sonic games on the Master System and Mega Drive still decent to play today (like the old mario games that are pretty much timeless)?
Yes, play both, they differ for a lot of things. MS games feel more floaty and easy on you (even if they're not), MD games play the physics card and are really fun to play. Check out Sonic CD too and maybe Chaotix. If you want to go on do as you please, but they won't look and play like the classics.
It's a Sonic thread. Are you honestly surprised?
Oh and if you play Sonic CD, please play the 2011 remaster version, since that one has:
>Option to play with the Sonic 2 style spindash
>Fixed collision detection
Seriously Taxman did such a good job with CD 2011 that it made the game from okay to great. Just wish Sega would release his and Stealths Sonic 1 & 2 remasters on every systems besides mobile devices.
As far as I know they're not planing on making them multiplat.
Is the PSN Sonic 2 any good btw?
I recently played the Classic Colection version of the game and would love to experience the game on a bigger screen.
Is the Co-op good? I've never tried it and would love to give it a shot
Not sure about the PSN version, but emulating is always an option, especially if you have a controller and an HDMI cable.
I have not played any sonic fangame/hack for a long while and apparently they have some event soon where they saw upcoming projects
The Sonic Amateur Games Expo 2014 Act II ended three days ago. And Sonic Retro will have their Sonic Hacking Contest pretty soon.
In terms of Fan games I would recommend this >>257529353 as well as Sonic Time Twisted.
>Taxman will never be allowed to incorporate final fever and other cut content
well still mad props to him for making hidden palace along with the vuvuzela boss
>Sega will never let Taxman and Stealth make Sonic 5
I'm playing Knuckles in Sonic 2 and I just reached Oil Ocean zone act 2, then I got stuck into a wall while I was being propelled into the air by those pan things.
And for some reason Knuckles now jumps really high and glides as fast as a fucking rocket. Is this the real life?
>Sega will never let Taxman and Stealth demake Sonic 4
>Sega will never let Taxman and Stealth recreate all the classic games in their engine and release them on all consoles & PC
That said I swear I heard a rumour they were going to release 1-3&K on other platforms once they had finished remaking them all.
AoStH Robotnik for me.
whos your favorite original content character of the series and why is it coldsteel?
goodness, I'm going to have to browse through foolz for the new universe issue
WHAT!? Tails is the most interesting character in the series! He builds stuff! He's got a tiny uncut penis! He always helps his friends! He's got a cute personality!
What does age have to do with anythign?
y'all would go from austist-fit, to austist-gasm if "BOOST" was re-animated and renamed to "Super Figure 8 Peel Out"
i deal with it as is, but it would just be nice/make sense
SA1 might feel a bit slippery but i never get why people have such a hard time controlling in SA1 & SA2. Especially SA2 where i think the controls have never been tighter.
I wouldn't consider Heroes to be better than Adventure's and it does have it's more frustrating moments but i wouldn't consider it "bad", I'd put it above average or entertaining at least.
From what i've seen of Shadow The Hedgehog it does look pretty poor and '06 was really almost unplayable.
But other than that i don't get this "sonic was always shit in 3D"
>Tails is the most interesting character in the series
That's your opinion, and I strongly disagree with it. Rouge is a cool, anti-heroic super spy. I love her for that.
>What does age have to do with anythign?
I despise child characters. Especially kid geniuses. They're always so obnoxious.
Rouge is just your diamond dozen thief with boobs archetype. Not sure how that's better.
Tails moans Sonic's name while you pound him, until you hit him hard enough to turn his moans into screams.
Whats wrong with talking about and praising a game I like? I don't care if you don't enjoy it and honestly it's kind of sad you're looking for attention in a Sonic thread.
>Except Tails is a refreshing exception to this "rule"
Not really. He's still pretty full of himself, and his constant hero worship gets on my nerves.
>Rouge is just your diamond dozen thief with boobs archetype.
I never said she was a revolutionary character, she's just likable. Plus I'm a sucker for that archetype.
5:22 always triggers my inner autist
He's had moments of self-heroism since Sonic Adventure. That was 16 years ago. Show me an instance of being full of himself, rather than humble about his own abilities.
>No wonder these millennials cant get jobs.
>millennials cant get jobs.
I cracked the 30 mark this year, good sir. The world no longer has use for my niche skills.
I might as well just get a job, making Youtube vids like the rest and fund that Jew agenda.
Its the new main series comic you should be looking for if its the deer
>The best addition to the Sonic franchise since the overall Chao Garden gimmick will be forever ignored and left to rot in Lost World.
Chris was a failed [spoilers]2real4me, kids IRL would be this fucking useless[/spoilers] attempt at playing the role of kids that wish they were in his shoes and hang with Sonic, but otherwise had *some* good episodes, but some off-model moments that irked me.
>>257551028 <--- This. The dub took away from even the PSA that kids shouldn't jump on F1 cars, as opposed to [spoilers]race F1s with hedgehogs, what the fuck?[/spoilers] It also censored things that give kids these days a skewed, fluffy example of the world, which breeds tumblr fags.
I'm so used to new characters coming into the comic via Universe I almost forgot about the main comic being able to do that too
well, thats two comics to look forward to reading on foolz later, then
I did it earlier in this thread, no problem, but I don't use it that often / I lurk rather than post, so I don't use these functions too often. Mostly sage.
I've been on-and-off 4Chan since 2008 and I don't go on reddit.
Dude I don't even get what the hell you're saying or care about your justification for missing the spoiler tag twice, but just go with CTRL+S next time, okay?
Also sage is not a downvote.
>I tried to make sense of GUN's flipping out and killing everyone but Gerald and Shadow on the ARK from both Adventure 2's perspective on the matter and Shadow's own game in perspective, and the former doesn't even have context other than "OH NO HE MADE SOME ULTIMATE HEDGEHOG, KILL -EVERYONE"
You do remember that Gerald was making weapons? To make sense of the Shadow the Hedgehog game from my perspective is that Black Doom was originally one of Professor Gerald's research projects recreated through Chaos (they even have the same cry; check the links). It would also explain why Gerald has all the Chaos clones on board the ARK, Black Doom was essentially one of the UL prototypes like the Biolizard and fits with Shadow's description of ARK, as a research facility for creating weapons of mass destruction in SA2.
>Jap Sonic X
It really is amazing how far a simple VA switch can go in improving a show's quality. Seriously, the Jap dub is pretty enjoyable until season 3
I wonder when Amanda Tower (aka "Not-Topaz) is going to show up again.
Anyone else want to see more crossover stages in future sonic games? I really enjoyed seeing sonic dressed like link and fighting zelda enemies
>mfw i played the ps3 sg version to 100%
i really need to start again over and play the pc one just for the various mods
Mods are great yeah
I 100% the ps3 version as well
i do not remember having much with those except the sand version one
like the first character emblems i fully completed
you can cut huge ammount of time just by flying away
it was piss easy
