No, see. On Rumble Falls they got this bridge in the middle of the stage. It's slightly curved so if I launch myself downwards at it with PK Thunder, I'll blast down at it and ride the curve. You sort of ride any platform with it, but it's like a halfpipe for PK Thunder and it's so satisfying to spam it like crazy while launching around like a madman every now and then as a way to mix up your strategies.

The MAIN problem with Project M is the balancing. It's not that one character or the other is "overpowered" but rather that every character is viable. That might not sound like a bad thing but as someone who thinks project m is a good game I can understand why you won't see why. Even though they can change the power/speed/whatever of a character, some characters will still take more technical skill than others. So why would I play Fox/Falco when I could play Pit and have all the same power but now have to do so little to execute. Now Falco for example is still a glass cannon but Pit is just as strong but has MUCH better recovery. PMBR has no idea how to neutralize pros with cons. That's a small part of it.

Great! Also remember to pause here and there and maybe launch a PK Thunder or two at your foe, or maybe even a PK Flash if you can. If you focus on hanging around middle of a stage and use those attacks you feel like some sort of reactor with all of those crazy attacks going out. Then when people get to close, jump at 'em while facing away from 'em and use that bair. Seriously focus on that bair or even try to get used to his various attacks as they all come in handy.

Also you can use his PSI Magnet attack to hover in the air for some extra shenanigans. Say if your foe is jumping at you while you're in the air or trying to juggle you lots, you can use it to be a little tricky if you really need. Maybe right above their range as they get a Smash attack in and then land right when they're finished with their attack and beat em with a move that you feel that fits the situation. Oh, also jump up in the air to the side of the stage and launch yourself back at it with a PK Thunder as your foe starts approaching you when you feel. Especially in Rumble Falls, but only when you got that feel that it's gonna be a good move to do. And while I'm at it here's another tip, your PK Fire not only makes it extremely hard for foes to move, but also racks up damage extremely well. You can shoot another blast of it at the foe to rack up more damage at the cost of them escaping it's grasp, or launch or self at them with that PK Thunder attack I've been talking about. Heck even use a quick PK Flash to finish them off or do a grab to mess with them, or even use that bair I mentioned earlier.

I'm kind of an Earthboundfag so I decided to main Ness a while back. Anyways, good luck with him and I hope you have fun with his psychic shenanigans and various tactics he can pull off. He's a real blast to play once you get ahold of him.

Jiggs and Roy were both poor characters, but at least Jiggs had a unique moveset despite being based off Kirby. Roy was an advertisement, he was necessary to beat the game and had to be brought on every map, he was never good like Jiggs was in Melee, and his entire fanbase comes from Smash.

Ness and Captain Falcon both got their first appearance on the SNES. Earthbound for Ness and F-Zero for Captain Falcon, respectively. For some reason they don't use a lot of the attacks they use in Smash in their actual games though, but I guess it makes sense because Captain Falcon could be a great fighter when he's not racing, and Ness could've learned lots after Earthbound when he finally got into Smash. I don't care if you're baiting or not, because the chance that you're an actual person who's gonna be able to experience those games for the first time is pretty awesome. Just check 'em out on an emulator real quick. F-Zero is a really fast-paced racing game and Earthbound is an extremely quirky and lighthearted RPG with it's own kind of silly going on. I hope you have fun with them if you decide to check them out, as I really enjoyed them.

So, I read up on wii modding once. Seemed fairly air tight and simple save for a warning I constantly saw that was along the lines of "btw your wii has a 50/50 chance of going fucking nuclear and dieing so good luck". After years of trying to git gud at this, a friend convinced to lay project M. I've always played Street Fighter and would main brawlers like Urien and Guile.

Cpt. Falcon was too speedy but then I laid my hands on Ganondorf and everything changed. I started winning and it felt fucking good to chokeslam cocksuckers all over the map.

By no stretch am I good. I'm still a long way from learning the advanced techniques but man did Project M re-ignite my fire to learn a new fighting game.

and if you're talking about the imbalance in the game (which is admittedly present) it's not like it's worse than the imbalance in Melee. The biggest difference is that PM will be getting more balanced over time with ongoing patches. Fox is still the best character and m2k and Armada always win anyway.

As for dsmash, I just tested it in Melee, and you can't Jump-cancel a downsmash out of a shield, or if you can, it requires frame-perfect inputs. Maybe it's different in project M though i'm not sure. But regardless, if you're dropping your shield and downsmashing, that's at least 20 frames until your dsmash comes out

That's the Houston thread on Smashboards where you can ask I guess. No idea how active Houston's scene is on Smashboards. Tournaments would be listed in the tournaments part of the site under Southwest region.

But Facebook is in all likelihood your best bet because like someone mentioned earlier most communication between players is done on that now. There's probably a Houston Smash or a Houston Project Melee group.

Project M is basically Melee with beyter graphics, more stages and items and characters, and every character really fucking good and fun to play. Many characters have unique mechanics added to learn, and the gameplay combines techniques from both Melee and Brawl into a super fast and exciting package.

It's a beautiful game, and what Brawl should have been on release if Sakurai gave a fuck.
