FUCK YEAH moments in games thread?
>when you're doing so good in Rock Band that the audience starts singing along
When you discover Atlantis and feel like you're in a lost world, miles deep below the ocean floor... when you're really just a warp and about 70 feet from the town
>Song has pieces that are progressively unlocked as you do better and better and the song gets more and more badass
That last side-B was a super rare occurrence. Once in a blew moon it misfires and gets super fucking powerful, he just got extremely lucky right there.
Sorry to burst you bubble but that ain't skill, nigger.
Don't you know? Everything Luigi does is pure skill.
I was being ironic when I called the misfire "skilled"
Skies of Arcadia had a good one, with the music changing when you were low on health ("Crisis"), and when the boss was low on health ("Opportunity").
>things are looking grim
>person who you thought was dead/character from a previous game shows up and helps out
>fighting an insanely tough boss
>on the last party member
>with 1 HP remaining
>no hope of winning
Any MOBA where your team is getting horribly steamrolled for the first 15mins but then you somehow get your shit together and start making a comeback and win. They're rare but that makes the experience all the better.
Following something that is pretty much a cutscene with QTEs hardly qualifies as getting "better and better".
>oh, screen flashes blue, press shift and mash attack
>oh, something flashes red, press up+lpm
Finishing a fight with a special move in Rorona Plus. Shits amazing since it changes the attack animation and exclusive music play if you manage to get the kill.
DK Jungle Beat seems kinda underappreciated around here but getting a high combo going and then hearing the chant in the background start up was really exciting
"You're not going to believe this, Jean-Louis! They all have ribbon insignias!"
>Game features a system where you do extra damage for attacking after a 'perfect dodge' or features a parry system
>That moment when the planets align and you just start hitting everything perfectly without even trying.
>find a mech lying around
>get into it
>has missile volleys
>there will never be a game where you're beating a character to a pulp, beyond just beating them where the cutscene would usually take place and as you continue mashing them, the music fades out as you're left with nothing but the sound of your endless sloshing of their insides.
>there will never be an alternative cutscene that takes a far darker turn for the game.
By the powers infested in me, I force you to
>protagonist from previous game is revealed to be the final boss of the sequel
>boss is at the top of some tall thing
>he simply watches you while your fighting against a bunch of his thugs
>Killing a boss as the last person alive in the raid
If you've ever played spy in TF2, you know how frustrating it can be. You have to dance a tricky routine, and even the slightest misstep (or just bad luck) means death.
So even minor victories feel really sweet, and when you pull off stuff like this:
>tricking medics into healing you
>headshots w/ ambassador
>sapping machines and then killing the engie without alerting base
>fooling everyone and generally running shit
...it feels fucking glorious.
>mfw the first time doing the "stab engie then sap his sentry before it can react to you" thing
i felt like a god
>sequel includes a save carry over function and your character from the first game is an NPC in the second.
>his actions are determined by your actions in the first game
>his motivations as the final boss in the sequel are determined by your actions in the first game
too bad the dragon age games and mass effect games failed to deliver on this promise
>when the crowd starts cheering your main's name
>finally reach Raoh
>he wrecks my shit
>manage by some miracle to beat him in second round
>You are Sock starts playing
>A game where you play as a kid who loses someone important to them by the hands of another.
>By default, you are given the choice to kill them in a fight or show mercy.
>Not a single hint besides the start indicating that you could continue attacking or doing things in whatever way to bring further pain to them.
>The methods used or a continued assault beyond overkill branches out various paths, all of which are never hinted at.
>It is solely down to the player's sick imagination to determine where things go.
Sounds like gold, nigga.
>Reaching The Zone while playing multiplayer games
As a momentum heavy player, there's no greater feeling.
doesn't that make all video game inputs "qtes"?
>oh, man popped up, better press aim and fire
>oh health bar turned red, better press f5 for health kit
Video games are based on visual cues, you fucking idiot.

RUN LITTLE PIGGIES, RUN
>incredibly tense moment in game
>suddenly a song title comes up on the bottom of the screen and lyrics can be heard
>WHEN HEAVENS DIVIDE, I WILL SEE THE CHOICES WITHIN MY HANDS
>HOW CAN WE EVER PROTECT AND FIGHT WITH OUR TINY SOUUULS
>LET ME SHINE LIKE THE SUN THROUGH THE DOUUUBTS AND FEAR
>John marston opens the barn door and walks out to face the firing squad
>landing a level 3 charge on a rathalos' head and staggering while he's in the middle of an attack that would otherwise kill you
>Power level increase
>Repeat until you exit The Zone
Is it that hard to understand?
>then ouroboros battle
>Agnes bitch spasms
>Suddenly four fucking 3DS friends' worlds help you out
>Medley of the party member's main themes.
God trash talk BD all you want, but that as fucking amazing.
Regular gameplay gives you freedom to do what you want for the most part, QTEs are a shit system that games use as a crutch for lack of interesting combat and mechanics, or even worse to be more "cinematic".
>COMPOSITION: TITANIUM ALLOY SUPPLEMENTED BY PHOTONIC RESONANCE BARRIER
>PROBABILITY OF MISSION HINDRANCE
>Playing turn-based RPG
>Hard as fuck boss
>Everyone low on health
>Everyone low on MP
>Last turn before boss turn
>Need to make the right choice
>Use an attack that spends most of my MP
Shit was cash.
what are you even talking about? the parry mechanic isn't a qte. It's a visual cue to let you know you have to perform a parry, which you do in the direction from which the attack is coming.
I agree that qtes are shit, but a legitimate gameplay mechanic is not one.
>Final boss is your customized character from your last playthrough.
>Finishing off a boss with a counter in SMT while you're low health and the rest of the party is dead.
>years ago, get together with three pals to play rock band every weekend (yes, i was the vocalist because the other three didn't want to give up their positions)
>every time certain songs show up we cheer and do better
>we're doing a really long mystery setlist, hoping we can max star it so we don't have to do it a-fucking gain
>we're tired as fuck after playing on expert so long
>all of us begging for an easy song
>next song: eye of the tiger
>we all freak the fuck out
>although i have the mic, everyone starts singing as loud as they can
>EYE OF THE TIGER IT'S THE THRILL OF THE FIGHT
>RISING UP TO THE CHALLENGE OF OUR RIVAL
>AND THE LAST KNOWN SURVIVOR STALKS HIS PREY IN THE NIGHT

>WITH THE EYE
>OF THE TIIIIIIGEEEEEEERRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
>everyone is doing incredible
>playing as best as they have in weeks
>we max star the playlist
>yfw Wicked Flight starts playing for the first time
That was the point when things got too fucking insane for me to handle. Everything from then on was virtually coded using the power of hype.
>4 person party
>everyone but the main character is ko'd
>tail end of a half hour long boss battle
>8 hp left
>1 billion xp and job points
>3/4 of it is wasted because everyone is dead
>Game has completely optional QTEs to make the scene more badass.
>meeting someone else who beat Bopopolis
It's been a while since I last played that game, but wasn't there just one save file? How would that work? The game remembers your character even if you ditch him for another one?
>Dynasty Warriors 6
>Lu Bu's musou mode
>last stage is every single other character (dead and alive) teaming up just to kill you
YOU GOT A FUCKING FACE FOR WHEN YOU BEAT F-ZERO GX'S STORY MODE ON VERY HARD?
> beating Deathstroke without the counter signs
>order your main force to counter it, while keeping it at bay with secondary troops
>main force is a good while away, forget about it eventually
>suddenly troops, troops everywhere
in the opening fight, the lyrics are tied to the killing blow QTE, and with mistrall the lyrics kick in in the buildup to the killing blow QTE. The different guitar and drum tracks kick in depending on what part of the arena you're in or what part of the boss you're attacking, which is still pretty cool.
>Eliminator mode in WipEout HD
>using a quake when a bunch of people are in front of you
>[contender eliminations intensify]
One save file, but new game plus.
Each new game plus, you get to redesign your character and main pawn, but keep all the items you had in the last playthrough. The final boss is your previous character's last known design.
No it doesn't. When a game requires a specific button press from you in a specific timeframe, it's a QTE.
In other games, for example, you can parry at any time in any direction and this has it's consequences - you often cannot attack while defending. The flow of the game also dictates your choice of reaction, but in MGR there is no choice - you see a red flash, you parry and even the other reaction - running away - has no different upsides or downsides to it.
Blade Mode in boss fights is the same thing. The game requires a button press at the exact moment and nothing you do in blade mode actually matters, you just hack away.
You'll like certain aspects of it, such as class-specific stuff, somewhat complex combat and lots of dungeon crawling.
Otherwise, it's kind of a mix of Shadow of the Colossus, TES and some Platinum games.
>Serious sam 3
>Almost no health
>plenty of ammo
>Turn the corner and its a wide, empty field
>https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v5JqLwyI70w starts to play
>last man standing in Counter Strike
>everybody watching, judging
>you vs an overwhelming number of enemies
>you somehow do it
it's a defensive game built around the parry mechanic, something that a lot of people fucking suck at, hence why it gives you the option to make it automatic. Fucking up a parry has dire consequences, especially in certain boss fights. Given that all attacks are telegraphed with the red flash I really don't see the problem.
QTEs are "press x to not die" sequences that happen in scripted sequences, not an actual gameplay mechanic that happens organically.
By your logic, the seesaw physics puzzles in half life 2 are QTEs as well, since there's no option but to complete them, and the game requires you to complete and action based on a visual cue.
>Getting swarmed by enemies
>You can stop/slow down time
In Dragon's Dogma didn't your previous character just have the same copy pasted moveset that Savan had?
It would've been the hypest shit if your past self could use all of the skills that you had in your last playthrough, but no game is perfect I guess.
That would've made the game too easy if you'd already known about the final boss.
I mean, the final boss is pretty damn easy already, but if your previous Arisen was a warrior and you played your whole new game + as a magic archer or a strider, you'd literally be able to walk up to them and just keep spamming the attack button again and again.
>yfw activating DT/Ripper mode/EX mode/whatever OP form you have and slaughtering everything around
This is the greatest feeling.
Every single boss fight in W101.
And the rival fights.
And whenever you get a plat/pureplat trophy.
>party of ragtag friends brought together by circumstance

>boss keeps throwing endgame skills at him three at a time doing five times your maximum HP each
>character keeps fighting back without faltering

>you already came 6 times not even half-way through the game
>Interrupt monologue-ing cutscenes with "Shut him up!"
Bopopolis was supposed to be tough? I only lost like 10 lives on it.

The skies turn red with the blood of the fallen! The Lich King watches over us, minions! Leave only ashes and misery in your destructive wake!
Jesus, his voice was so empowering.
I just beat this game like an hour ago, the buildup for the final fight was just fucking great.
>mfw theres a "Thanks for playing!" in the credits

this is the pinnacle of closure
I beat paper mario TTYD like that. It was just Viv and Mario left, and Mario was at 1. I had to do something like 16 to kill the boss, so I did the continuous jump, and managed to hit it perfect every time. I have never been so hype about a final boss before.
>last titan standing, last pilot against 3
>poppin shots and running with chain gun and cluster missile

>beat the shit out of the titan i was engaging and clean it up
>other two titans went around

No game will ever top this final mission. It was fucking perfect.
I have to wait 3 days till I get it because payday isn't till thursday. I'm sad because I played it for like 12 hours when it was free for two days and I just got a new gpu and want to try it out.
If anyone gifts me the game I can regift something for them in two days of equal monetary value. No joke, steam or origin. Please. ;_;

I beat it again on my system, but when he saw he flipped his shit.
I'll just leave this here
There are probably a lot of games that vaguely fit this theme, but you reminded me how hype the end of Metal Arms: Glitch In the System was. You
posses the 100 foot tall final boss after a big game of cat and mouse, use his abilities to decimate his army and destroy the space station he is on. After he crashes down to the planet he is finally weak enough for you to take him one on one. That game had some other really cool moments too.
That grab is the leadup to the end of the first fight, and the end of the second fight had a lyrical kick as well.
The only fights that had kicks come in early in the fight were Sam and Armstrong
>Big Band's Story Mode.

by the end of it we were 1-1 both 100%, she was so excited she would yelp every time i threw a falcon punch and i just kept telegraphing these gigantic punches until she panicked right into one and i yelled PAAAAUUUWWWNNCCCHHHH

>Every party member but one reflects, absorbs or blocks the attack.
>The last one takes minimal damage.
Yeah, I normally suck at spy, but one day I somehow clicked into the groove and managed to turn around the tide of a match.
I'd joined where the other team was in the process of capturing my team's last point when I helped clear out and stop them capturing, and ended using several classes as was needed through the match, but the most fun was using cloak and dagger, going way behind their lines, then fucking with their incredibly well placed sentry nest, stabbing, etc. and making them so damn paranoid they were goddamn constantly spychecking everywhere, such that it gave my teammates the opening they needed for a push.
Was the best match of TF2 I ever played.
Happened to me the first time I fought Emperor Doel in the Legend of Dragoon. My last guy has 3 HP, and Doel would have done more damage in his next attack than I could heal. Decide, "fuck it, maybe I'll get lucky with one last attack."
I got lucky and jumped. My brother witnessed the whole thing. It was great.

Pretty much any time the main theme of the game kicks in at a well placed moment in action.
>playing game with ridiculous hitbox patterns like Contra or Gradius
>that moment when you're on your last life and continue and suddenly you cease to be just watching your in game avatar and trying to dodge things and instead your eyes widen as you magically begin to watch the entire screen at once, taking in and evaluating all information and paths of travel of every projectile and enemy on the screen and reacting flawlessly with your heightened perception

>DO YOU LIKE RIDING ME?
>THIS IS FUN AND SAD
>I AM HAPPY
>GENOCIDE IS FUN
>Rocky music finale build up with explosions
>OOH AHHH THIS IS PRETTY
>HAVE A NICE DAY
It's like you're seeing everything at once and not looking at anything at all. Not looking at your player character, not looking at the projectiles, but instead understanding the screen for what it is, one unified display of information. When you stop choosing to focus on one single part of it and expand your focus to the screen as a whole you suddenly receive all of this information at once and your brain super-computer can sort through it all and process it as it comes at you to react and pre-act, and you don't even have to look at your avatar because you just know where it is on the screen by the buttons your pressing and relative to everything else.
Surely this is tapping into some sort of human higher consciousness that only games can unlock.

>Winning with 1 health
9 year old me went nuts
>In other games, for example, you can parry at any time in any direction and this has it's consequences - you often cannot attack while defending. The flow of the game also dictates your choice of reaction, but in MGR there is no choice - you see a red flash, you parry and even the other reaction - running away - has no different upsides or downsides to it.
This is the dumbest shit I've ever heard. You can run away, use offensive defensive, Try to knock him out of his attack animation, jump over him, run away
You know, like any other fucking game? It's a visual cue indicating an attack is coming. That's all.
>Witcher 2, first playthrough
>Enter cave where supposed soldiers have been ambushed
>Stumble upon at least a dozen drowners
>Holy shit it's dark and I forgot to pop potions
>Rolling Swordsman, so my magic and traps are shit anyway
>Pause game, think hard for a few minutes
>Unpause, and begin a kiting session Benjamin Franklin would be proud of
>Down to practically 1 hp with two or three drowners left, all running after me
>Take out throwing knives, aim and slow down time and start throwing
>Kill them all before they reach me
Fuck what people say the combat in this shit can be frantic and fun
aThe one thing it did do was change the music depending on how you did.
I think it was called "the tables turn" Correct me if I'm wrong gentle anons.
The one grip I have the most with this game is it not doing it when you fight a drake, the music is ominous enough though
>Final Fantasy III
>fighting the Garuda with my entire party of shitty dragoons
>2 party members, both at low health and one mid Jump
>casts Lightning again
>next turn Luneth lands the Jump and kills him
It felt amazing.

>We're down by 1, I steal the ball and pass to the point guard
>Run up to the hoop and call for alley-oop
>For once in this ridiculous fucking game he actually lobs it
>I jam that shit in and let the Pacers know this is my house
>mfw we win
I never kept my practice on a regular basis and just stopped trying altogether.
I still have the program, so I'll take a stab at it again when I feel up to the task.
That moment when I saw the whole lines of text in one glance still pretty fuckin bonkers though (and it's why I still have hope I'll pick it up agiain).

>SHIT, ENGAGE IN OVERDRIVE
>decide to switch it up to Sun Sword
>pulling off some really aggressive combos and rushes when he tries to cast some dork mageeks or rolls
>just chipping away at his health

Expecting this to be hard as nails, but manage to do it on one try.
Still was pretty fucking awesome.

Thanks for the memories based Saint's Row 2.
ZOE2 has a really underrated climax. From the time Zero Shift is unlocked to the time the credits roll, it's just a balls-to-the-wall fucking AWESOME ride. The fight against a maximum strength Anubis with you having to pilot a Jehuty
barely holding itself together and with 95% of its abilities lockedwas way too fucking hype.
None of my friends were ever man enough to sing.
I suck at singing but would go fucking HAM on rock band mic. Straight up yelling into it. Got my friends hype as fuck whenever we played really good songs
I just finished mgr today on normal, NG+'d it in Hard in like 3 hours, I've never seen a game become so easy when replaying it a second time.
>Armstrong was slightly difficult because his moves changed a tad, still never died to a boss once tho.

because Amalur Reckoning isn't fun at all when you aren't way outleveled.
>Somehow reach the boss of a quest
>2 of this enemy at once, plus boss is a bigger, stronger version of that enemy type
>His hits take out half your health
>No random adds to charge up reckoning mode, and I wasted it killing the enemies before the boss fight
>Win by executing perfect dodges and grouping the enemies together so you can hit them all at the same time
Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning had absolutely shit level scaling, all enemies your level were easy as fuck even on the hard setting. Bosses too. Plus, non-story/faction quests were all MMO level garbage. However, if you went way into higher level areas and fought enemies with names colored red because they were so overleveled the game got really fun. You could beat any enemy on skill alone.
The quest I was talking about was the end of some fae quest where you fight 2 normal threshes and a big thresh. Regular threshes on their own were a hard enemy at my level because of their immunity.
Fighting over The Crown was the only fun I ever had in that game. Who gives a fuck if the rest of the continent burns?
>Standing down an enemy charging right at you
>Getting hit means death
>Charge up a really powerful attack
>Finish charging and release the millisecond before the enemy wipes you out
>enemy gets smashed hard/knocked backwards
Based Dragon's Dogma
>Play a game that lets you get CUHRAZEE
>Put on hype as fuck music from your own playlist like https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wv0iUKb80C8
>You're reacting so fast in real time and dodging so much shit you don't even need slow mo
>The combination of the music and sheer amount of shit going on on-screen is hype as fuck, yet your own actions don't seem like anything special at the moment since everything is a blur because you're reacting purely on reflex
>Look at the shadowplay recording later
>"Holy fuck how was I doing this shit?"
>They all die because you were using bouncing grenades
This happened during one of my FTL runs. Halfway through I lost all of my crew except my engine guy while caught in some solar flare or something, forgot which. I was about to quit, but decided to ride it out and figured I'd die in the next jump.
I made it to the last sector and got to the boss's final form. My engine guy now captain was experiencing losing all of his allies again while my ship got fucked up by everything. Final attack from ship goes off. Mine goes off almost immediately after. My weapons are faster.
No misses. All hits. Nothing but enemy debris remained. That moment marked my first FTL victory ever.
>Wyvern trying to fly his bitch ass away
>Know where his place of rest/feeding is
>Pump that Dash Juice and as soon as he starts limping make a beeline for his nest
>Set up the traps and shit before he even lands
>Tranq that fucker fast as fuck, capture him before he even knew what happened
Also, soloing a powerful monster and using Long Sword, and getting the killing blow on the end of the big combo and sheathing your sword as it collapses makes for a good FUCK YEAH moment
That's me with Mega Man sometimes.
>playing mega man zero
>die repeatedly to these bosses
>begin gitting gud
>final level, boss rush comes up
>do most if not all of them perfectly on my last game to kill the final boss
>essentially move into zen mode for the hard as hell final boss, honestly having trouble remembering if I took damage because of the intensity and craziness of the fights.
