I dunno, I think white looks pretty solid with efficient play.
White can move behind the black pawns and use the bishop to cover the queenside pawn - if black goes for the bishop immediately, white is guaranteed a promoted pawn. It seems the same if black instead tries to maneuver behind the queenside pawn.

If a player moved a pawn two spaces and ends next to an opposing pawn, their opponent may move that pawn diagonally and make a capture.
>>
>>257306010
A good chess player knows when to resign. The vast majority of high end tourney chess matches end with resignations.
>>
>>257306094
Well this is exciting
>>
>>257306043
En passant.

For example, a white pawn moves two steps from the front line
Now, a black pawn on the same row and adjacent to the white pawn can move in the tile the white pawn jumped over, and in doing so, remove the white pawn. Standard capture move of a diagonal step.

The only capture where the capturing piece doesn't take the position of the captured piece.

So how about that chess 2_______________?
>>
>>257306852
It was added in response to another rule change; the one allowing pawns to move 2 spaces on their first move. That was a change intended to speed up games. However, people worried about the change since it messed with certain set ups. Thus en passant was amended on as well.

getting better at chess by just playing is a bit tricky though. you need to know the basics for that to work. just look up beginner guides
>>
>>257309958
Are you serious? I blundered 2 times!
>>
>>257310075
Only 20 games?

Play more, become more familiar with the board and how pieces move. The better you are at being familiar with piece movement, the better you can position your own pieces to deny your opponent from moving into good locations against you. You can also plan where you will be in several moves, not to mention the best (and most likely) moves your opponent will take to plan ahead.

A lot of chess is board control. Controlling a lot of the board means that your opponent cannot do much to respond.

>>
>>257310278
I blundered around a lot myself, and it cost me two games. Openings, especially, messed me up. Don't worry too much about it. It's best to see what traps you fall into so that you can be familiar with them in the next game.

Yea It could have gone either way ironically in this I was trying my hardest not to do a tradeoff with my queen
>>
I'll join a game if anyone starts one
>>
>>257312735
I sometimes force tradeoffs like that that to screw up my opponent's organization, not to mention removing pieces from the board.

The biggest issue for you in the endgame was having that rook stuck in the A-rank between those two pawns. Seriously, you couldn't do anything with that. Between that and losing in most of the tradeoffs, it was just hard for you to build up momentum.

That, and you went to grab my pieces when I was setting you up for much worse at times.

Knights are really tricky to use well and really tricky to pin down. Bishops and pawns are really great at catching them.

My big concern was ending up in a position where both queens were vulnerable to each other and my opponent captured mine. I had that happen twice with recent games, and needing to capture the opponent's queen with my king was a bad position to be in. It meant that I couldn't castle anymore, which is the best way to get a rook out into play and keep the king away from the action.

I just used that against you this time, forcing you to use your king for a queen trade.

>>

At the moment I made the comment, both players had their minor pieces choked a bit, because there were a lot of pawns on the field.
>>
>>257320675
Aha, I see. I'd been playing a bit more open but was punished for it very badly earlier today, so I've been playing more conservative and defensive. Well, minus forcing the tradeoffs.

Also, I'm waiting for you apparently.
>>
>>257300721
There's no way that black has the advantage here. The only way black can defend against the promote is to move the rook, at which point, white can snap up the pawns. White has 2 past pawns that will be difficult for black to capture, meanwhile, black's pawns are both stifled. I'd much rather be white in this game. That's with white moving first, however. Houdini has white up 3 points when they have the move but down .2 when it's blacks move. Still much rather be white in either scenario.
