MOTHER FUCKER
FOR 4 FUCKING HOURS I'VE BEEN RUNNING AROUND USE WOOD CHIPS AND YOU CONTINUE TO OFFER ME AQUA
I FUCKING HATE AQUA, I FUCKING HATE THIS GAME
>>
The element of chips you use doesn't determine the element of the style that you get, fagget.

Also most people would kill for an aqua style, faggot.
>>
>>256809137
I know I would. I've played through the game at least 4 times and get Fire Guts every single time
>>
Aqua is the best one, that machine gun bubble shooter kills shit like no tomorrow.
>>
>>256809137
I bet your favorite version is blue you plebeian.

>>256809520
>Guts
Worst fucking style
>>
>>256809681
You obviously never had wood + sand stage. It does double the damage, and the wood buster already does the most damage.
>>
>>256808843
Isn't it like based off your actual playstyle or something? Not elements etc, but whether you're full on offensive, or prone to using stuns etc.
I started with that ElecRing one; stun was great but damage was pitiful, and eventually ended up with wood (which, remember is SUPPOSED to be the defensive one, due to the shield). So maybe try using more chips that would fit a defensive playstyle?
>>
>Playing BN3 for the first time
>mfw Electric Guts when the only enemies are ones that move too fast or attack when you're trying to machine gun
>>
>>256809937
Ive always wanted to get wood anything for that reason, it sounds so fun

I did a shadowstyle playthrough recently. It looks cool, but it's pretty worthless except for the antidamage navicust program it gives.

Custom for life.
>>
>>256809970
I think you're thinking of styles, e.g. guts, ground, shadow, etc, because those do depend on playstyle. I'm not too sure about the elements though, word it they're random.
>>

Cust style

>Low tier
Bug style

>Shit tier
Anything else
>>
>>256810665
They're permanent and you have more possible combinations.
>>
>>256810665
Styles are permanent until you fight a certain number of battles, then you can change it, or level it up. You don't have to spend a chip or anything, it's just on when you start the battle.
>>
>>256810665
Unlike Crosses you always have them in battle as long as they're equipped.
>>
>>256810860
You also have the option of going back to Regular Megaman, if you wanted to do a challenge run or something.
>>
>>256808843

>>256810308

I've never really played this game but have the roms here.

Should I start with the first? What should I know? I know it's a different story and the gameplay is strategy/card right?
>>
>>256811460
Start from 1 and play until 6, don't let any faggots tell you that 1 is outdated or some shit.

The combat is hard to describe, you gotta play it. You won't regret it.

Do you hate immortality, bro?
>>
>>256811460
It's a grid based action RPG with a card-game element.

You move around on a 3x3 grid and your opponent(s) move in the same amount of space. You line yourself up with them to shoot or dodge attacks. You collect cards ("battle chips") in order to use far more powerful special attacks that all work in different ways.

I don't even know what other elements or styles there are, let alone what they do

>>
>>256811898

More or less, yeah. You play as an elementary school kid named Lan, and Megaman.exe is your "Navi" or online avatar that you control to destroy viruses and other such shit.

The storyline seems to be aimed at younger audiences, but tge gameplay itself can be pretty fucking tough. MMBN2 probably has the most "adult" storyline, plus some swearing and some really funny racial stereotypes.
>>
>>256812147

Is that a good or bad thing? I mean, is one style really fun to you or is it out of your hands?

Although I suppose you could run GrassStg in the NaviCust and also preseta GrassStg chip just in case you come across breakers and fire. Still, you shouldn't waste NaviCust space like that.

then again it's often ranked that the "I just want to destroy shit" bad guys are shit but I liked its execution
>>

I tried getting a HeatShadow style for years and never got it.
>>
>>256813086

3 is widely regarded as the best, though I think it's only marginally better than 2. 4 a shit. 5 and 6 are pretty good gameplaywise, fairly weak storywise.
>>
>>256813086
Play 3, then 6. That's all you need, really. 5 is optional, 4 is not recommended.
6 is the best. Make sure you get the patched Falzar one that re-adds the cut content.

>>

Aqua's buster is ridiculously weak in exchange for the stupidly fast charge time in 2.

However in 3, it's got a slightly longer charge (I believe slightly faster than the normal buster) for a modestly high attack.

The only negative effect of merit is that the panel bonus for Aqua's buster is extremely limited (Double damage to enemies on Lava, which can only apply to heat element enemies as is)

>>256825031
The combat system, and the trading card game-esque aspect. The combat was unique and something not found in most RPGs, and used a strange mixture of real-time and turn-based combat, with the weapons you used being a library of collectable "Battle Chips" which you could find as monster drops
Not to mention the overall theme was cool.

Your styles in BN2 and BN3 are all based on how often you use certain battle techniques. There's a hidden point value system, and when a Style Change occurs, the highest point value gives you a style.

Elements are randomized.

If you use your buster frequently in battle to finish off viruses, you will get Guts. If you don't want Guts, never use your buster.

If you use Navi chips frequently, you'll get Team.

If you use defensive and recovery chips, like Invis, Barrier, Guard, Recovery, Rockcube, and Rook, you'll get Shield.

If you select as many chips as possible, 3-5, per turn and per battle, and make use of the ADD function, you'll get Custom style.

If you use Invis, Shadow, and Anti-Damage, you'll get Shadow Style. (Blue Only)

If you use stage change chips, panel breaking chips, and Repair chips, you'll get Ground Style. (White Only)

Everyone won't shut the fuck up about a real life SAO (even though SAO seemed like a pretty bad MMORPG in-universe), but if anything I'm looking forward to some real-life netnavis. Even if they're just in your computer, it'd be cool if we could transfer them to websites, which would have a space built for them complete with winding pathways and viruses to fight. Obviously, we couldn't transfer them to all websites, but a website could have a notice that would let you know if it's "PET-compatible" and give you some sort of code to give to your NetNavi application that would allow your Navi to traverse the site.

Hitting prism with anything causes it to do damage equal to what hit it on all panels around it.

Heatspread does 300, boosted to 600 with grass panels. Then due to hitting prism, another 600 is spread around it, thus 1200 damage.

Holes don;t matter, just have undershrt/fucktons of HP, and airshot the statues into position.

BN: 3 = 6 > 2 > 5 > 4 > 1. 1 and 4 can be swapped to your liking. I suggest playing them all in order, but if don't feel like putting up with 1 and 4's bullshit that's fine.
SF: 3 > 1 > 2. Play all of them, they're all really solid and SF3 rivals BN3 and 6.

I'm going to recommend you to Mega Man Battle Network Chrono X, which is literally just Battle Network 7 created by fans. It's still a huge work in progress, but the little I've played is pretty damn faithful to the games, complete with its own system called MeMENTO, which replaces Style Changes from 3, Double Soul from 4 and 5, and Soul Cross from 6, but works more like the aforementioned Style Changes.

You either love it or hate it. The NG+ bullshit was removed and in its place you can just globally set the virus level. But the biggest dividing factor is the Liberation Missions which is Battle Network with a bit of Fire Emblem injected into it. Personally it's stolen my heart but it's something that I had to work towards.

>6
6 is kind of yeah kind of no. the game is really really easy and I don't know if it's because the bosses are too easy or if its because you have a billion different ways to overpower the fuck out of yourself. But it pretty much puts Lan's story to bed.
>>
>>256845702
6 is god tier and well worth playing, plus it ties up the series just as well as 3 does. 5 is pretty solid but has liberation missions, which may or may not annoy you. 5 basically requires you to make single code folders though, the liberation mission can get pretty demanding later.

Guts: Just use the buster a lot. This is the easiest style to get and thus the most common people get first time.

Custom: Select multiple chips at the same time, more chips selected = more points towards Custom. using PAs also count toward Custom

Team: Use Navi chips most often

Bug: Just fight with a bugged Navi cust

Shield: Use Barrier type and recovery chips most often

Shadow: Blue Only, Use Mole/Invis chips most often

Ground: White only. Use Panel changing chips most often

Hub: BN2 only. S rank all Navis, except Bass.

Elements are completely random, and are locked from when you hit new game (for your first style) or when you choose the option "Work toward another style" (all others after) You cannot get the same Element twice in a row.

Like they make a zero inspired armor for OVER, but apparently the technology for beam weapons isn't a thing yet so they made this (the edges of the sword is energized)

Have Dark karma be rated on percentages. At maximum Dark karma you're stuck on 1 HP. Once you start using light again your HP goes back to 100% eventually.

Do what 5 did and have Soul strength scale with buster levels.

Have the net have set areas with set viruses like every other game sans 5. NG+ is just if you want to relive the game. Scaled up bosses is fine.

Jesus please hire someone who understands how the english language works to revise the script.

Just cleaning up the text is a good start.
Also have normal/heel navi battles strewn throughout the Internet instead of just in the tourney or Higsby's battle board.
In fact, remove normal navis from the tournament altogether. Why would you even make Flave's fodder navi the boss of a scenario?

As I understand it, Over-1 was made by Cossack and Light in the past after some time traveling Wily went to the X timeline and collaborated with Sigma. That's as deep as it goes so nothing even has to make some sort of sense.

This could actually be really cool if they used the Overs as some sort of attack of the clones plot in the Elf Wars.

it's amazing. i'm surprised /v/ doesn't talk about this game more. it's an RPG with card game elements, but only it's not shitty. you create a deck of chips to send to megaman every "turn" which is a lapse of time. there are cool summons chips of other net navis, a lot of strategy and an overall fun experience.

I always got Custom as my first style.
>>
>>256854656

For a game whose last entry was like over 8 years old this game still gets talked about quite a lot imo. Every few days there's probably a BN thread that reaches 500+ posts (this one is on course to do that too) and BN gets probably more discussion on /v/ than the rest of the Mega Man franchise combined.

Granted, it's quite niche over here in the west as it is compared to Japan, but I wouldn't call it too underrated on /v/ yet. It's mainly the mainstream media/gamers that don't know much about this series.
>>
>>256854752
It's wasted potential because its not an actual game.
Literally all they had to do was pull some fan generated levels from Powered Up, make them 8-bit, reskin sprites from Xtreme and slap together some shovel ware that you could actually play. A fan group could do this in a month with the right resources.
>>
>>256855301
early on it's a lot of alphabet soup so buster reliance is pretty high. Thus, Guts style is almost always what the player gets the first time unless they managed to make a good folder early.
>>
>mfw lan saw yai naked

i'm with you,
i think 6 could have been better
battle system and folder building feels more polished than ever, there's some pretty fun new chips and a lot of old good ones make a return
story mode feels pretty streamlined there's less extremely tedious crap to do
but having crosses on top of beast form is kind of overkill

>>256855713
the two cheapest folders to use in BN3 are flashman and plantman folders, because they pierce invis and paralyze for several seconds.

Flashman folders have Ratton chips to make mega ratton, along with Plasma 3. Combine with Icestage.

Plantman folders use Sensor chips which are powerful as FUCK,. Plasma 3 also comes in P code.

S code is as standard as it gets though
>>
>>256855713
C D E and are good because you can pad them with Bubbler
F has Bubbler, Rattons, Flashman, other miscellaneous chips and is game destroying
I recommend just lining your chips in code order and finding some chips that you like with the same code. Really, a good virus busting folder doesn't have to have a single code, I recommend going up to 3 codes if you don't have the right chips, not counting * chips.
>>
>>256856339
this is from some other game where Over cameos in and has poorly photoshopped weapons in his hands.
>>
>>256856403
It's just buster reliance. Some people might not be able to finish everyone off and then get impatient and use the buster to chip off as much damage as possible before the next turn comes up.
>>
>>256856403
By first time, i literally meant, first time playing BN3. Try and think of anyone, who had never played the game before, Who did not mash buster when they used their chips.

>>
>>256856991
Either keep your folder that way or try to slim it down to 2 codes plus *, single code folders are more for S ranking every boss in post game. A 3 to 2 code folder with good chips will carry you through the main story well. Maybe try swapping one code for another code with better chips.

>>256856778

One thing that I'm not a fan of with Chrono X is the music. The themes are fine, but the instruments aren't really good. They don't sound like a Battle Network game to me.
>>
>>256857548
These are very obviously some sort of energy arrow.
But I'll admit, the bow doesn't fit very well into the design. If they kept it a bow, they should have at least made it more high-tech looking to go with his armor.
