Twitch is muting VODs of streams if they contain any form of music (even in game music)
Nice, good luck having a useable VOD of GTA5 when you stream it from your PC when it's released. Your highlight will also be muted, everything will be unusable.
Not only that, they're completely broken in livestreamer if they have a mute on them, can't play them at all.
>any form of music
no, they're removing copyrighted music that has paid audible magic (the company that checks the audio of the vods) to protect their copyright.
but yes, this is shitty. it mutes in 30 minute blocks if it detects any of the copyrighted music, meaning most tournament vods are going to be completely muted the entire way through
I don't see why this would matter much, actually watching a stream that isn't live seems oddly pathetic, even for something that is already kind of pathetic but a lot of us do anyway.
a lot of streams out there are really great background noise. i can fall asleep to that shit really fast, it's great.
but these people don't stream 24/7 so obviously vods are the solution. a lot of vods are gonna get all or mostly muted because of this change
This is a piece of shit if it recognizes music playing in-game and subsequently bans you, but I really don't give a shit if it bans people for playing shitty dubstep and other music while they are playing the game. I just want to watch the game. I don't care about your epic 3-hour trap mix you made for your stream.
>a lot of streams out there are really great background noise. i can fall asleep to that shit really fast, it's great.
Oh okay. I can understand that. Sorry if you lose this and can't find a better sleeping aid.
If one good thing can be said about this, it's the schadenfreude.
AND YOU FUCKERS LAUGHED AT ME FOR STREAMING KUNG-POW ON LIVESTREAM!
Yes because when you purchase a video game, you are not purchasing the game itself, you are purchasing the license to play it.
Technally it is illegal to invite your bros over and have them watch you play (game dependent) unless THEY have also purchased the game.
Can't wait for all the twitch fags getting banned. I hope google fucking KILLS twitch.
I can actually taste how jealous you are that they are making money off of your favorite hobby. Its like you know you aren't entertaining enough to hold more then 4 youtube views per video.
I completely understand how LP'ers are bad for the industry. For the passed 6 years instead of buying games I was hype for I watched a youtube playthrough or an LP'er handle the game. Since they were all AAA movie tier garbage I didn't miss out on anything.
>tfw you just went to register with a name that was taken on twitch and it's free
I posted this and it got removed within 8 minutes.
Here's the fix if you don't want to go to Reddit.
Can we have the company fizzled for clear efforts at monopolization?
They already had video hosting and engulfed youtube, as well as streaming before they killed justin.tv and twitch.
>a 65 second "explanation video"
>60 of those seconds are spent repetitively showing what we already know
>5 seconds are spent using annotations to give 2 short sentences explaining everything we needed to know
why do people do this shit. holy fuck. at least he didn't type in notepad and backspace his words for 5 minutes
>Senator: I want an investigation into Google's business practices
>Gets a late night email
>We know your browsing history, go ahead...investigate
>Next day: I would like to withdraw my request to investigate Google
>Get to Muted portion
>Press Space Bar
>Press Space Bar again
it was only a matter of time
this is really dumb by both google and twitch though, why buy a service only to kill it off, youtube is still running because they are somewhat lenient. There's a ton of copyrighted music on there and if they cracked down on it youtube would die overnight
>Play a game that has fucking music in it
>Play music over the game
People are retards. Maybe if they didn't open Linkin Park (or whatever shit kids are into these days) and play it over the game they wouldn't get muted.
>play a game that has music in it
the other steps are irrelevant because the video is already muted.
fallout gets muted, Crypt of the Necrodancer gets muted, Final Fantasy gets muted, Doters gets muted
all just ingame music
Let me put it this way man, listen here.
You play a game and record some footage, then you check it and find out it's muted. Why?
You passed by a radio playing music, in the game. The music in the game.
IN THE GAME.
because I don't have the money to fight in court or change laws, and I don't think shooting up an office would change anything
unfortunately this won't stop unless our society's view on property and copyright is changed, and it won't be for a long time, most people don't care for the reasons above
Every single LoL streamer is going to be fucked.
Livestream has always been the answer, twitchfags is the reason we can't have movie links anymore for occasional kung pow and other stuff.
This is karmic justice.
>mfw I stole all possible DSP combinations (darksydephil, DSPGaming, etc. in hitbox)
>mfw I can't remember the password and I deleted the email I used
Well...at least nobody can use it, but I would have liked to get some money off the moron.
>mfw valve's dota 2 vods were muted for containing dota 2 music
>twitch weekly was muted too
I read the e-mail and it wasn't about streams, it was about videos stored in their servers, not active streams.
You're silly, OP.
>move on to the next game streaming service
Not enough people will do this to make a difference. If their favorite streamers will forever stay on twitch and refuse to move to a different website, then their fanbase will remain on twitch.
The viewers can't solve the problem - The streamers CAN though, and I seriously doubt that will ever happen since it's too risky for them (similar to giant Youtube channels creating secondary Youtube channels which have pitiful subscribers compared to their main account)
Embrace the future of GoogleTwitch
>Google bought twitch for 1 billion thinking it was a good investment
>twitch loses nearly half of their traffic in a matter of weeks because of this
>google just wasted 1 billion on a site when they could have used that money to perfect and plan their internet service
>hitbox.tv gets overrun by new users
>they'll eventually add delays and other bullshit just like twitch
>they'll go to complete shit and get bought out by google just like twitch
>people will leave it for something else just like twitch
Calling it right fucking now.
The biggest names in the speedrunning community have already called Twitch out on it on stream and on Twitter.
Of course the speedrunning community is microscopic compared to stuff like LoL / DotA and FGC streams, but it's a good sign that there are people with big enough fanbases (some of these speedrunners make a living off Twitch) are outspoken about this.
The problem is that some of the big streamers have contracts with Twitch that will keep them stuck there and like you said, it's the streamers that decide where viewers will go
>people saying it's a good thing
Youtube automatic Copyright system angered quite a lot of Youtubers (especially those who aren't powerful enough to do anything about it)
Google+ being forced on everyone angered a lot of viewers
And the constant Layout changes are fucking balls
Yeah this seems too silly to be true. I hope that there's some sort of migration or something. Being constantly subjugated to jewgle's whims gets pretty annoying after a while.
Can't tell if trolling or not
They are losing a number of people including their money makers the streamers as well
they are in a very shit position especially since the worry before the buy out was if they would implement youtube rules onto twitch
Sounds about right, Kung Pow is awful. I don't know why you faggots fawn over it. Because it became a meme like "talking about deus ex means someone is going to reinstall"?
There are so many better "funny" action.martial arts films.
most of them actually return profit over time
twitch was the riskiest of the tech side and it already seems like a bust
Google is not as large as MS where they can lose 500 million dollars a year while buying other tech companies for a billion and have a bust.
They are large though no doubt about that
Step 1. Go to a Twitch past broadcast.
Step 2. Copy video ID. It's the 9-digit number at the end of the URL.
Step 3. Paste it in http://api.justin.tv/api/broadcast/by_archive/(video_id).json
Step 4. Copy all URLs ending in .flv
Step 5. Open the URLs to download video files directly, or just use VLC/MPC to stream the files.
Get fucked, Twitch.
>People thinking Google spending $1b on something that may or may not bring in cash, let alone profit
$1b is nothing to Google, like $1 is nothing to you. It's disposable income, they lose nothing and potentially gain a lot.
Look how sophisticated and mature you are!
>person streams any game with audible mics
>start playing popular song through my mic
>twitch picks up on it in his stream
>instantly mutes entire thing
Would this work? If so, mic spam is going to be a nightmare.
they know and don't care
they just got a billion dollars, everyone in management is running to the bank to retire and the rest of the company will just be signed on with google to maintain it
>stream snipe faggots
>play music over VON
>their cries and a half hour of content gets muted
FUCK. this is the only way i can watch their streams because of my schedule
they start all their streams with some music too. that shit's gotta raise all sorts of flags
fucking google. now i'm going to miss out on glorious Joel commentary
Youtube's livestreaming service is moving up in the ranks.
If you can't be better than the competition, just get rid of it
>that hardly work.
livestream maybe but hitbox works just fine unless you have some crappy service.
Besides every site that starts to get more people on it starts to upgrade their service and in time charge for it but for now hitbox is a legitimate good site alongside livestream which has had problems since it was first released but has grown so much in little time.
>tfw this is the happiest I've been since ricitello got fired
i want to take that moment to advertise my stream
we stream movies and we have a vidya channel with a chat. no bullshit like camwhore are present. its gud
Why is Google so adamant on killing LPs?
I mean for what reason did they buy Twitch? I mean Twitch offered a service to LPlayers that were getting fucked in the ass by google draconian rules.
I have to ask...
Will this REALLY hurt Twitch? I'm not trying to start shit I'm just wondering how badly this will affect them or will it be one of those cases where everyone hates it, nothing changes, and we just have to live with it.
It looks like 90% of people in the comments everywhere so far are pissed and many looking for alternative means like hitbox, but I'm wondering if this will actually hurt twitch enough for them to notice.
>there are people on /v/ who will support what google/twitch is doing, ironically or not, solely because it fucks over DSP
Sometimes I scare myself with how right I am.
Because let's players are a bunch of plebs that contribute absolutely nothing to society. They don't know the meaning of hard work and will only give birth to a bunch of entitled little devils. Google is doing a good job.
This change should have been done later, when twitch had literally no one that could compete with them. Right now the alternatives to twitch are comparable so maybe it will backfire, but that is far from certain.
I don't get the sentiment of Google/Twitch being after the money through this.
How exactly does hamstringing your service translate into earning more $$$? Do you believe record labels will approach them saying "Thank god all these pirates are unable to rip our hot tunes from your streaming service anymore, we will hand you some extra cash for this now that everyone will buy our CDs again"
How are they supposed to make money from this?
It's the big name streamers who bring in the cash for twitch. Twitch doesn't have to give a fuck if half their streamers left, as long as they're not losing their popular partners.
The one thing this hurts is people who like to watch certain people, but maybe can't watch them at the times where they are online.
The one thing that's REALLY scary is that Google is 100% looking into developing something that can actively scan streams that are live. That's when it's gonna have a huge impact.
I dont know, it seems that google is just turning into another microsoft. They are just trying to kill any service that has any semblance to Youtube, when In fact Youtube and Twitch were quite different.
That's a subjective assessment that has no bearing in business. The question should be would buying Twitch and then removing the things that made Twitch, Twitch be good for business.
Also before I go further, I dont usually watch LPs because I preffer to just play the games. But it's not up to me to decide what the market wants. And there's a demand for LPs and people are willing to offer that service. It seems odd that google seems so adamant to kill that service.
The one in the Animated Series was way better.
>Patrick Stewart will never portray him.
Yup, Twitch is dead. I've been incorrectly flagged by their automatic system numerous times and there is nothing you can do but take the video down or mute the sound. It once thought a generator buzzing in-game was copyrighted music by some band I've never heard of in my life.
>How are they supposed to make money from this?
money saved by preempting possible litigation. sue twitch pre-google and you can make, what, a handful of dollars...
sue google directly in a class-action lawsuit and the settlement could be $100s of millions if not more.
>people discussing microsoft and google
>an applefag jumps in and brags that his company has a higher market cap even though it's completely irrelevant to the discussion
So he'll make a video about this?
are you implying you can't get raped twice
>4th of July
>stream Metal Wolf Chaos
>put on 6 hours of background patriotic music
>will never be able to do it again
God damn commie bastards infringing on muh freedom. Who can we nuke for this?
IT'S TIME /v/.
WHICH IS THE LARGEST EVIL?
Well I'd call that protecting the existence of your company rather than money grubbing...
NEVERMIND I REMEMBERED THE EMAIL
Remember me and make sure to tell DSP that I hold every account for my personal use, and to reply to email@example.com with his offer if he wants 'em. This ain't blackmail, I'm just not going to give up my beloved accounts for free as it's obvious.
He better. I'm tired of him being blindly optimistic about this shit when he works on the very shitty platform Google has been lathering in shit. Google buying Twitch was nothing but a horrific idea, there was no hope for this. All it equates to is loss of something.
google by far
EA and bioware are just shitty entertainment companies, google has grown to far beyond that
the captcha I am typing in right now was designed by google, the youtube videos I watch are run by google, the browser and search engine most people use are run by google, the stats on facebook and nearly every site are collected by google analytics
Welp, Twitch is kill, and nobody's gonna move to a different streaming site because there's no popular alternative, meaning everyone just has to deal with this broken bullshit.
I'm officially gonna start calling this "Youtube Syndrome."
Haha that is crazy shit man but seriously the show was pretty good. The concept of batman needing 2 persons to fight crime (old bruce and a youngster) is perfect and they have a good dynamic.
>all this hate for based Google
>almost none for the kikey Music industry which forced Google to do this
>Trust me Batman, you're the only one who cares.
you're a filthy person and you should feel filthy
People complain about this shit when it's entirely within their right to mute audio that infringes copyright.
People will say REMOVE GOOGLE while they use google chrome.
While they hold their google smart phone.
While they actively use google search.
While their main email account is google mail.
While they visit youtube daily, a site owned by google.
You did nothing but bring this on yourself.
Don't want to get muted? Don't infringe on others copyrights.
>google makes a bunch of changes that in no way benefit the user
it's just like when they acquired youtube, except now it hamstrings people who just want to watch something
Now feel free to call me a retard but if Google keeps on buying these streaming and video websites, won't it be coming into conflict with antitrust laws? Google has been attempting to be everything. Mail, social networking, travel, video player, data storage, analytics, and more.
What's the point in comparing two video game publishers to something giant like Google?
Google or Facebook? That's the better question.
The answer is still Google. They bought Boston Dynamics even, I mean damn.
The sad part is that Youtube and Twitch offered completely different services and this move by Google seems a defensive move. Google right now will implode hard because a once small company is now a conglomerate of subsidiaries and there's a big chance for Google to just implode.
I'm honestly concerned how far Google can actually go before the US government would step in. They've got to be pushing the fucking bounds of what's legally defined as a monopoly, if not now, then in ten years.
I'm just waiting for the day google buys fucking facebook
copyright laws are fundamentally broken and have been in dire need of revision for decades now
there's nothing to "infringe" on other than what's been made up by lobbyists to pocket extra money
Only google will arise to cyberpunk zaibatsu levels of power.
WHO /STEAL TOP STREAMER NAMES ON HITBOX/ HERE?
>WHO /STEAL TOP STREAMER NAMES ON HITBOX/ HERE?
WHO /STEAL TOP STREAMER NAMES ON HITBOX/ HERE?
>WHO /STEAL TOP STREAMER NAMES ON HITBOX/ HERE?
WHO /STEAL TOP STREAMER NAMES ON HITBOX/ HERE?
>WHO /STEAL TOP STREAMER NAMES ON HITBOX/ HERE?
>Using ANY service owned by Google
>Expecting them NOT to play right into the hands of the recording or music industry
Dumb mother fuckers, lol. If Google fucking you in the ass fr money is a surprise, you haven't paid attention to anything about them in the past ten years.
D..did you screencap yourself? Along with that all self-important comment, holy shit you must be one serious fedoracore autist. What you were "right" about everyone with a brain saw coming.
they should already be coming into conflict with antitrust laws. what is their market share of the search engine market (including ad % and revenue, etc)...
also, youtube. enough said. they bought one service and it has succeeded and pretty much corned the market. now they are starting to buy up the rest.
I would sorta be sad to see him go to be honest, I always check on a friday night for the latest "This is how you DON'T play" videos and spend all night watching them.
Him getting upset over video games amuses me to no end.
have you ever considered
because that's what ive been doing all day
>WHAT IS WRONG WITH THE FUCKING WORLD
The people with money are the ones with influence. Whodathunk.
It will never be reformed in the way you want. If anything it's going to get worse. SOPA/PIPA/CISPA/etc will eventually get through in one form or another. Monitoring will continue to increase. Neutrality will continue to crumble. The internet will eventually resemble cable TV.
The wild west days have been over for a while. Enjoy the remnants while they last.
It's not about infringing upon copyright, it's about a broken automated system that gives you no legitimate appeals process.
Liking a different product from the same company doesn't mean you can't have criticisms of their other products.
If you're just going to say what amounts to "Just use it, or don't" why even bother posting if you're not going to contribute anything besides redundancy?
How can you watch both at once?
You're either slacking on the vidya to pay attention to the stream, or treating a stream like background noise and focusing on the game. Either way, what you're trying to do just detracts from both.
CEOs of google hate videogames
they fucked over LP ers on youtube, now theyre going after twitch
they want you to get a real job and to stop playing videogames all day and getting $100,000 donations for it
>the minority has influence over the majority in a system created to please the majority
WHY THE FUCK DOES NO ONE SEE THIS?
>buying a CD to listen for personal use
>Playing it to an audience
Are apparently completely different things in the legal system. One you can do, the other requires exorbitant licensing fees.
post yfw you find out google has a patent for giving birth by centrifugal force
Hitbox is barely even loading for me. I tried watching a channel and it's just simply not loading.
Looks like they tried to go with fancy transitions between pages and shit, but instead nothing actually loads. I hate it when websites are designed like this.
>twitch is making a joke of Youtube live in usage
>well we could improve our product or just buyout and ruin the competition
>yea lets do the second thing because the RIAA is forcing us to buy a video game streaming service
Google Video failed because YouTube was more popular. So they bought YouTube.
YouTube live streaming failed because Twitch was more popular. So they bought Twitch.
I really doubt Google bought Twitch because they thought about keeping it running. They fully plan on shutting it down and forcing people to migrate to YouTube's unbelievably shit streaming.
>But people are moving to other streaming services
You think Google cares? They'll just buy them for a billion and shut them down too.
You didn't buy the interactive software, you literally cannot purchase software in America, you merely license it. Look up Vernor v. Autodesk, it's an utterly asinine concept but it's the way things are.
>Caring what Muhammad-Al-Jihadasarus and Chaim Goldsteinberg are fighting over
>Caring that Obok'nk'oe'rkfa'ngo is dying to an irrelevant disease that will be eradicated as soon as it steps on our shores
>Caring that Sanjeep Singh is dying of starvation
Yeah, you're right. I am. I don't give a flying fuck about some nigger or paki dying in a faraway land when my own liberties are being taken away.
>implying you weren't one of the short-sighted moronic hordes celebrating the "death of e-celebs" and you gave a second thought about copyright issues
You done got schooled by a random anon, nigga. I know it sucks since you used "fedora", which has become shorthand for "someone with an opinion that offends me".
>Based Google is finally killing off more and more Lets Players
>/v/ thinks this is a bad thing
Seriously where the FUCK did you newfuckingfaggots come from?!? Go the FUCK back to Reddit already!
true democracy is an impossible ideal to reach, it's always been skewed
Want to fix the broken copyright laws? that means you need to have a lot of money, and if you have a lot of money then breaking those laws will probably only hurt you and piss off all of your rich friends in business that want to keep them
>Technally it is illegal to invite your bros over and have them watch you play (game dependent) unless THEY have also purchased the game.
Gaming is dead fuck everything You all let this happen. You could of saved gaming if you got off you're ass and did something. Fuck the world i hate you all.
This doesn't kill off Lets Players because Lets Players just have their obnoxious commentary in the stream with the game's volume either not present or turned down pointlessly low anyway. And after this, they'll just have the game's sound off completely so you'll get nothing but the soothing sounds of their hilarious commentary.
I like Google but I wish their services weren't a fucking confusing mess.
>3 fucking apps that do the exact same shit for creating documents (Quick Office, Standalone Sheets and Docs, Drive)
>Profiles everywhere instead of having a global profile.
>Bazillion Google Apps that serve absolutely no fucking purpose.
>2 apps for photo and video viewing (Gallery and Photos)
>Not merging the Gmail app with the Mail app
>Google + streaming, Youtube streaming, and now Twitch
Does Google have any communication at all? It just seems like there are 3 different teams working on Google services. Apple may be shit but they know how to unify everything they offer.
>treating a stream like background noise and focusing on the game
>Either way, what you're trying to do just detracts from both.
It really depends on the game, and vice versa. If im playing something new or something sensitive to sound and music; i focus on the video
Google easily, although I've been trying to push them as far out of daily use as possible. Using things like startpage instead of google search, blocking google analytics with noscript and not using their shitty browser is a start. The only thing really google that I use is youtube.
At least with EA and bioware you can completely avoid them and not know the difference.
>tfw can't stream anime anywhere
I just want to watch shows with friends.
Twitch bans you so quick and hitbox started banning for anime.
Though hitbox is great for vidya and OBS is so much better than xsplit.
google is turning into another monolithic company
the xd le nerdy man company slowly got infested with corporate and government shills that have gradually transformed the company into the arm of the government, just like WB, Disney and Lockheed Martin. Googles only purpose is to own the internet, so that it can own all data, and do anything it wants with it. Think of the possibilities...
Anon, according to this google analytics page, you watch Kill la shill. This is an anti-semitic chinese cartoon and unless you pay $6,000,000 to Goyberg Shekelsilvergoldstein in an out of court settlement, we will prosecute you.
Also, police state, RFID chips becoming compulsary, humans treated like cattle, its Brave New World all over again.
Electronic Arts make games
I dont really like the games but their influence isnt exactly massive
Bioware also makes games, I enjoy their modern games too even if they don't have much depth
Google does not make games
Google kills games
>copyright laws are in a serious need of reform.
basically, you think you should be allowed to make a living using the intellectual property of others without paying standard royalties?
>can't play GTA online because acting like a crimina in GRAND THEFT AUTOl can get you banned
>can't stream GTA because listening to the radio can get you banned
>can't bitch about GTA because Rockstar has a massive defense force
I just give up
Damn, this Twitch.tv streaming service sounds veritably poor. Such shabby business practices definitely not used on the great Youtube Live streaming service. You should check it out, friend.
Remember to sign in to your Google+ account to leave a great comment for your circle. (no usernames allowed, friend. please scan your driver's liscence and birth certificate to be validated)
Google spent a billion dollars to just ruin Twitch. If they actually intended to maintain it as a functional website, they're beyond retarded. Not only that but no matter their intention, they get even more of a reputation of having the touch of withering. It's like that movie The Happening, both in plot and quality of performance.
I know, right, anon? Why watch EUFA or FIFA World Cups when you could be down on the pitch? Why should the Superbowl exist if you can play it yourself? I mean, who the fuck watches NASCAR? Might as well get behind the wheel myself.
but no, it's because the people who make a good product run with the money they got from the sale and then retire, and the people left are being run by the new companies shitty management team and boardroom that is more focused on stock prices, this happened to TV, music, and soon the internet and videogames
THIS IS PART OF SOMETHING BIGGER
I'M TELLING YOU
