There wasn't an exact time for me, but in 2010 I bought a PS3 and a whole bunch of games with it. They were all shit, but the biggest offender was the Uncharted series. It was absolutely the most unfun piece of shit chore of a "game" I ever played. Then I remembered that this is the series that's getting GOTY awards from everyone and their mother and realized that gaming was going in a direction that simply wasn't for me. From there I began to play less and less games and eventually I lost control of my life to the point of my current state where I exclusively play kusoge JRPGs.

I didn't really hate any games like /v/

Kind of drifted away and got bored of them.

Yesterday I attempted to install Maplestory to get the addiction back but I deleted the game at 50%.

I haven't touched my PS3 since GTA5 and I don't plan on getting the PS4 unless Shenmue 3 and Yakuza 5 are coming out.

There will always be games worth playing even in the sea of shit that is the gaming industry.
There will always be that game that you can like despite all of it's flaws.
But we will die for gaming. Life will take us away from it. It will become too much for us , be it due to families , illnesses , jobs etc. At some point we will be the casuals.

Gaming has never really 'died' for me, only certain genres.

For example, RTS died in my opinion when EA released that F2P monstrosity it dared to call a C&C game.
Survival Horror passed away after the release of Resident Evil 4 and 5. Ever since then, horror games have still retained a slight over emphasis on action rather than actual horror.
FPS isn't really dead yet, but it is in decline, I feel this started to happen around 2007 with the yearly shovelfest of CoD titles
