WE DID IT AVGN BROS! Best movie of all time! We made it happen!

James is a fragile old man with a wife and responsibilities, I really don't want this film to crash and burn because he has a lot of passion for cinematography, but at the same time I hope it's not too successful and prompts him to do more AVGN stuff, it's getting unbearably bad.

I just got back from an early screening of Angry Video Game Nerd: The Movie starring James Rolfe. Three words: hella f*cking epic.

I went with some friends and I don't think we went more than 10 seconds without busting up laughing. I mean what can I say about the James Rolfe that already hasn't? He's a comedic god.

The supporting cast holds their own though: it's got the incomparable Jeremy Suarez, the lovely and talented Sarah Glendening and Doug Walker, the pundit from my favorite show, Nostalgia Critic.

This is, without a doubt, my favorite movie of the year (and arguably one of the funniest comedies of all time) so I highly suggest you and some friends go out and see it when it comes out to a theater near you.

It was shit because they tried to make a movie out of a web series. There's a specific format AVGN works in, and it's not strong enough to carry an hour and thirty minutes of actual plot. It's the same reason Kickassia and the other Nostalgia Critic movies I've forgotten about were shit.

The only difference is that Rolfe is an okay person but Doug's got his head shoved up his ass.

I haven't watched the latest episodes, but I think one of the problems is in-depth discussions about movies in a medium where a lot of things are the same. You occasionally get something different, but in the end you are basically reviewing the same schlocky-dumb-action-movie, schlocky-dumb-action-movie-with-surprisingly-good-writing, schlocky-horror-movie, etc. So in the end a lot of it end up sounding the same. Certainly it doesn't help that Mike and Jay are fairly superficial reviewers that appeal to a somewhat casual movie-going audience.

I never found the skit bits super entertaining either, and they never held the same interest as the original Plinketts with Mike in terms of comedy, but the silly irreverence is enough to be somewhat entertaining, for me anyway.

Everything wrong with this movie stems from the script being complete garbage. It was something James and his film school buddy wrote back in 2007 when they weren't even being serious about the idea.

If they actually wanted to go through with it, they should have hired an actual writer to work with them and get a good script together based on their initial concept of ET. Of course I think they would have been better off just not making it at all, The Nerd is barely tolerable as a character in short videos.
