Dan Adelman leaves Nintendo and a small look into nintendos corporation.
"In an e-mail interview on Sunday, Adelman confirmed that he was leaving Nintendo to go independent, and said his former employer has been supportive of the move. Still, Adelman acknowledged that he was frustrated with the company's tendency to clamp him down when he said something that didn't mesh with the corporate message."
"I had been strongly encouraged to stay off of Twitter—or at least say only things that were clearly safe—so after the region-locking comment they just said I needed to stop completely," Adelman said. "When people started complaining that I wasn't active on Twitter anymore, it was suggested that a PR person could just post in my name. I thought that was about the worst idea I'd ever heard, so I left it as is and let the silence speak for itself."
"Even though I ran the digital distribution business for almost 9 years, it actually wasn't until late 2012 that I started talking directly to the press. I think the main reason for this is that Nintendo is very careful about its image—as it should be—and I have a really bad habit of saying what's on my mind! I've never had the patience for company politics, so if there was a decision I disagreed with, I said so in pretty blunt terms."
Just shows how backwards and scammy nintendo really is.
>Just shows how backwards and scammy nintendo really is.
How is it bad for a company to prevent their employes to use their name to promote personal opinion on the internet? Every fucking company should take Nintendo's example there. Dev's wanting to please their twitter followers befoer their own company are the reason we ended with shit like modern Bioware.
>There were people whose job it was to look up addresses in Google maps to see if the business address was a home or an office building. And if it looked a little residential, they'd ask for photos. There would be e-mail threads with literally a few dozen back and forth exchanges about whether the couch in someone's office was really used for business purposes or did someone really live there? That policy, thankfully, is gone.
Isnt it common sense not to shit talk your employer in social media?
I think he appeared on gonintendo as a guest writer every now and then. I don't think I have read a single word by him, though.
You can't go out there, keep badmouthing your employee and expect to not get fired.
And this is pretty obviously a case of, either you leave or we'll fire you.
>Still, Adelman acknowledged that he was frustrated with the company's tendency to clamp him down when he said something that didn't mesh with the corporate message.
The fuck was he expecting?
Is it common sense to put region lock on their hardware and never trying to listen to their customers when they complain?
Is it common sense to plan to put marketers into twitter so that their fanbase thinks they actually talk to a responsible nintendo executive?
>In 2005, I moved to Nintendo where I spent about 9 years heading up the digital distribution strategy for WiiWare, DSiWare, 3DS eShop, and Wii U eShop, where I helped bring games like World of Goo, the BIT.TRIP series, Cave Story, Shovel Knight, and many, many more to Nintendo consoles. I pride myself on being one of the first and most ardent supporters of the indie games scene from the mainstream industry.
So, cancer then. Good riddance.
>talk shit about a company
GEE IT'S NOT LIKE THIS DOESN'T HAPPEN EVERYWHERE ELSE
let be serious m8
the thread is just a thinly veil shitposting thread and nobody on /v/ give a shit about some low rank no name employee of either side
unless kaz or yoshida die, i couldn't give less shit
Also ps1/ps2 had region lock
It's just nintendo is behind the times, not that they are evil.
They see no reason to remove it, because they gain more money with region lock
>Work for Microsoft
>Go on Twitter one day
>Someone ask if I should buy an xbox one
>"ARE YOU FUCKING STUPID? XBOX ONE IS SHIT, BUY A PS4"
>Come into work next day
>"Anon, please see me in my office"
>Go to office
>"Anon, you're fired"
>"YOU CANT FIRE ME JUST BECAUSE I HAVE OPINIONS"
Every business is carefull how the people working there reflect their image. Like Disney for example is one of the more strict ones. It's definitely better to stop an employee embarrassing themselves and their comany with stupid tweets.
No need to thank me, taking the trash out of the board is a hobby.
Even so it doesn't make nintendo automatically shit and backwards for shutting him up. Do you really think any company interested in making a profit would let their employees talk shit about their company, business choices or products? I agree that region locking is shitty but what happened to the guy was to be expected.
Sounds like literally every company on the face of the earth. Heck I know high schoolers in their first job at bagging groceries be told to be careful about what they put on social media and be reprimanded for some of the stuff they would write.
That's nothing. I'd understand it if he straight out said something like "Yeah, region lock on nintendo consoles sucks" but like this it's just implied. I'm aware nintendo is super anal when it comes to things like this, but this is way over the top.
No, you just insulted the company because you're a faggot and you felt like it. That's not truth, that's not factual, that's just you trying to get a sony shitstorm going. You even tried to make it seem like you're unbiased.
>No, you just insulted the company because you're a faggot and you felt like it.
Oh god, please forgive me for calling them what they are.
>That's not truth, that's not factual
Then what is it? How do you categorize nintendos actions.
>it was suggested that a PR person could just post in my name
Shut the fuck up. I honestly don't give a shit about your justifications for it, but don't go around making a thread about how "backwards and scammy nintendo really is" and then try to play it off as an objective statement. It's not, you're just trying to start shit.
Fucking. Wow. Just acknowledging that having to deal with multiple consoles is enough to say that you shouldn't tweet at all? It's not even saying their games are bad or thier current stuff is bad. Jesus, fuck those guys, he had every right to leave.
Yeah, except that time where there was piiu threads galore before E3 2014
>In 2005, I moved to Nintendo where I spent about 9 years heading up the digital distribution strategy for WiiWare, DSiWare, 3DS eShop, and Wii U eShop, where I helped bring games like World of Goo, the BIT.TRIP series, Cave Story, Shovel Knight, and many, many more to Nintendo consoles
And nothing of substance was lost.
See, now you show true colors. This is what you were after all along, you just want to call that one other fanbase you don't like bad names :((((
Eat shit and go somewhere else to have your console flamewars.
I'm not saying region locking isn't an important issue, I'm just calling OP a faggot for starting console shitposting threads. He just proved that by calling me a nintendrone. The last time I've played a nintendo game was in 2007.
The highly cultivated presentation control that he's complaining about is exactly why I can hardly care any less about -any- big corporation's communication attempts. Until they start letting employess like him say what's actually on their minds, this is one consumer that they aren't communicating with as much as they could.
On a similar note, this is why the most interest I have in hearing what some politician said is those times when they got recorded without realizing it. Unless people are saying what they really think and believe, I don't really care to listen.
>See, now you show true colors.
Your colors are of a buttblasted nintendrone that cant take the truth about nintendo being shit.
I have no color just calling it how I see it. Not even once did you even adress the actual points in the OP. The only thing you are doing here is defending and deflecting.
Please shut the fuck up. I don't care for you calling me a Nintendrone. I don't know what you think it will lead to.
Do you want me to call you a Sonydrone now? A Microsoftdrone?
That game would look and play so much better on a PS4 or PC with proper anti-aliasing and decent draw distance. It's really a shame that Nintendo keeps using outdated hardware.
He still can't say it, it's like if a retail sales assistent tweeted acknowledging that Asda, Tesco or Walmart's have cheap trolleys with wonky wheels.
Even if it was true the employer isn't going to be happy with the person tweeting.
>That's nothing. I'd understand it if he straight out said something like "Yeah, region lock on nintendo consoles sucks" but like this it's just implied. I'm aware nintendo is super anal when it comes to things like this, but this is way over the top.
Without their "good guy" image, Nintendo wouldn't sell anything. They have become a broken record, chanting about "fun" while they make watered-down ripoffs of better games.
>Just some marketing faggot who doesn't even touch video games
>People are surprised that Nintendo doesn't want their employees talking shit about the company
>omg, but this one time they almost did something dishonest, but then they didn't.
It boggles my mind why Nintendo wouldn't shit take these criticisms into mind and do away with region locking in their next console. That way, more people get to enjoy more games without having to fork over extra cash for another system AND they improve their image as listening to the fans.
Hugging their nuts 24/7 doesn't help matters. We should be encouraging this criticism if it means we get a better product in the long run.
I don't know, I usualy play video games on a high end PC and although PS4 games look okay for now WiiU games really look like shit, MK8 really needs some anti-aliasing. I'm fine with PS3/360 games looking as they are but come on, it's 2014, it's the Wii all over again. Nintendo should just go third party, their hardware past gamecube is just a joke.
I just bought a Pro controller - feels comfy
also I don't give a fuck and nobody actually cares
>"he was frustrated with the company's tendency to clamp him down when he said something that didn't mesh with the corporate message"
So he's frustrated with something every employer does? If you're a representative of the company you can't be saying things publicly that go against its message even if you disagree with it and even if the criticism is true.
wow it's fucking nothing
working at nintendo must be like attending a scientology cult meeting if they fire people over shit like that
good on him for speaking up against regionlock though
>Then you're a retard who probably loves paid online, mandatory DLC and monthly payements, and any other anti consumer shit.
Kek. And one only has to, again look at the consoles to see if that fosters quality game development. Enjoy your Paystation4.
You really think that if Nintendo went 3rd party all their games would have AA and all the other stuff?
They didn't even use the full power of the Wii to make games they aren't going to use the full power of a PS4
>Supports fanbase for region free hardware
>Supports cross play
>Brings third party support
>Nintendo wants to replace him on twitter with a marketer
>Nintendo forbids him for interacting with the fanbase
>Lefts company because he wants to work with people that are passion for games
>nintendrones start shitposting about him just to defend shitendo
>That game would look and play so much better on a PS4
>with proper anti-aliasing
Only at 30FPS™
Nintentoddlers, they just ignore how shitty things are and brainlessly scream the "comfy" or "fun" buzzword. Keep that mentality Nintenbrony, it's what Nintendo needs you to do in order to properly fuck you in the ass.
Ah ah no, there was last year I think, some MS employee spoke about certain customer experiences they had, their kotaku account had NO correlation to their MS persona and they still got find out.
Big Brother MS hard at work.
>They didn't even use the full power of the Wii to make games they aren't going to use the full power of a PS4
Mario galaxy and Zelda: Skyward Sword used the maximum of the wii especially SS as many slowdowns prove it. Actually I'm pretty sure Nintendo wanted more horsepower for both games as the detailed models and textures prove it when you emulate these games. Just fucking look at how much better wii games look on an emulator.
I think Nintendo could benefit from a better hardware, they make consoles but they only do it because morons will buy outdated hardware. They have really good game designers so they will do fine as 3rd party, they are not Sega. Actually I kinda want Sega to take Nintendo's place in the console market, their hardware always had the horsepower needed for the generation and the Dreamcast was way ahead of its time with its online and memory card usable as handheld/aditional screen. If they made a dreamcast 2 with that same philosophy it would be awesome.
>Even MS lets their employes talk on the net.
Remember that little incident about how if you are too poor to have always internet, you dont deserve to buy and Xbone ?
Companies censor what they employees sy cause media, ,yes media, take what this people say and slap it as if it were companies policies and not a personal opinion, giving birth to a PR nightmare
Tough shit. If you don't like company policy, then find another job.
With that said, Nintendo is not the friendly game producer that Miyamoto and Reggie work hard to convince you that it is. It's a for profit business that exists to exploit their markets to the maximum. Maintaining that image is a critical part of their business.
If you straight up port it and crank up draw distance and apply AA it would still run at 60fps due to the PS4 raw power. If Nintendo designed the game with PS4 in mind it would also have higher resolution textures, higher draw distance, proper anti-aliasing and still run at 60fps.
You are just a moron if you think the console's hardware is limited to 30fps. It's the devs who chose: graphics or framerate. By the way even the PS3 has some games running at 60fps like Wipeout. Contrary to Nintendo fans beliefs Nintendo didn't invented 60fps.
is a general rule cause you never know when something will blow or not.
also goes to information, see how that Canada guy mentioned Rayman and all internet went Viral about Rayman being Green for Smash, when was just about the trphies?
Companies care too much for images and most media, specially gaming is yellow as fuck so they will take anything and spin it as much as they can, ergo why corporation encourage their employees, specially hi profiled one, to keep their opinions to thenselves or not public
no sane person here lurks that trash pile
Difference is, the guy vaguely shitalked MS and got fired for it.
This guy outright said something negative against nintendo's practices, regardless of how shitty they are, and they kept him on but banned his twitter usage until he eventually left.
what the hell is going on in that thread
>huge blow for nintendo
>dan was so important
>what are they gonna do now?
who the fuck is this faggot and who gives a shit? why is neogaf pretending hes up there with iwata doing anything that fucking matters? i just dont understand
>Terrible news for Nintendo as this is a huge loss with all the good work he put in, probably better news for Dan to get out of that kind of environment.
yep, Neogaf still as lovely as always
>Talking shit about your employer gets you fired
>Manchildren are actually trying to think this is somehow not normal practice for every employer ever
Maybe when you start your own multibillion dollar vidya company you can talk shit about yourself all day.
>inb4 muh freedom of speech
>taking money from a company then shit talking said company without expecting repercussions
NEETs pls go
But what exactly do you need for that work?, Being able to talk to people?, and be a good negotiator?, that's it, so why the big fuss
the core problem is that devs wanted to push graphics last gen as a way to sell their systems, then it turned into a shitfight of who can outdo who with the flashier visual effects, companies quickly dropped standards like 60fps and even moved to tone down newer things like full hd, This gen they are going even further, LOD distance is becoming disgustingly short, 10 fucking metres, are they even serious.
To be fair a game with mediocre at best gameplay and stunning graphics will beat a game with stunning gameplay and mediocre graphics.
yeah but WHAT did he do. was he the one they talked to about technical things with the shop, was he the one they talked to to get their games on the systems, was he just a cock sucker to make indies feel good, or did he look for indies and try to get their games on the systems. it cant be that last one. he said he helped bring shovel knight in, which is absolute bullshit because those dudes wouldnt need help from anybody to do that
No. They told him that what he was thinking was inapropriate and that he should let someone else post apropriate opinions on his twitter for him. The dude didn't insult the company so no real reason to ban him from using twitter if anything they should have told him that these things can damage the company's image and that he should be more politicaly correct in the future. Insted, Nintendo's reaction is something that you can straight up find in George Orwell's 1984 book.
Nintendo is as all companies run by people, its people who make decisions and if these people tell you what you have to think or say past the understandable "don't insult the company we rule" the proper reaction is to leave and make a deal with someone that treats you better. This applies to every job you get, if the people in charge treat you like shit leave and find something else, even if you get paid less.
>I'm a braindead Twitter whore no one cares about
>please give me your attention, I left Nintendo
And why are you posting an upscaled MK8 thread? Do you need attention too?
>some random ass guy
>a guy who went out of his way to publicly denounce his employer for no reason at all
>surprised when Nintendo wants him to stop being a faggot
Any company does not like this, ESPECIALLY when it's through a Twitter to be seen by thousands upon thousands of people
its a possition that can be filled, he just was the one that put out hte face for it with the higher ups, again, the guy was cool and neogaf is just using it as fuel to shitpost.
a little bit or all, talk about policies reach out indies, work as middle man between small indies and corporate,
if indies were you, and Nintendo were your dad, and publisher a game was asking dad for money, he was your big brother helping
they guy is basically just popular and was a good PR face for nintendo for helping out reach the indie market
so a nobody. hes the cashier who takes the money and gives change. him and his opinions or his position matter for shit and he can be easily replaced. why does anybody care about him?
Just watch these three indie sizzle reel videos and tell me Nintendo lost somebody important.
They fucking didn't.
Look at this shovelware shitheap.
Tbh, if this last 10 years has taught us anything, it's that "famous" people need a fucking filter for their Twitter. I can't count the number of "controversies" that could have been avoided if celebrities and such took their managements advice and run stuff past PR
But I'm digressing here.
Because TLoU was designed to be pretty, not run great. Are you fucking retared or what? It's devs decision to make the game run at 30fps not a console limitation. Hell, most of PS2 games run at 60fps, DMC 4 runs at 60fps on PS3. TLoU Remaster runs at 60fps too btw. And please don't bring the "oh look it has a few slowdowns to 45fps! Wii U wins again" MK8 has a few slowdowns too, even your PC can have slowdowns when lots of shit happen on screen, it doesn't mean the game generaly doesn't run at 60fps.
To go back to my point, better hardware means more horsepower for devs to use, if Nintendo could develop on a more powerful console than the Wii U they would of course target 60fps, but with the aditional power they could increase texture resolution, details, draw distance and add proper anti-aliasing.
>Just shows how backwards and scammy nintendo really is.
>"Nintendo is very careful about its image—as it should be—and I have a really bad habit of saying what's on my mind!"
Why is there even a discussion here?
>Awesome move by Adelman. Nintendo was the wrong company for him. Nintendo is way too political and backward thinking, I bet there is an old guard within Nintendo that believes that they should only make Mario games, not do anything online, and view third party sales as lost business instead of increased value. Until these type of people leave Nintendo, the Adelmans will not be welcome.
Are these people for real
The only game of worth this man is responsible for was probably Bit Trip. Everything else was going to be ported to everything else under the sun because that's how digital games work these days.
Bit Trip is the only exception because it really only got know through WiiWare as one of its good games and probably didn't have funding to port to Steam immediately.
You have been missing my point since the first post, yes TLOU can run at 60fps, but without AA
And that is a pretty big thing considering that the graphical update was minimal and ND could not even keep they promise that the game would look like the cutscenes in the PS3 version.
Just play the game man. When everyone is gathered in one place on the preatier circuits and lots of items are used at the same time you can notice the game having a small slowdown, nothing really outragous but still. Now get a friend, play in split screen mode and you will notice it if you haven't on single player. If you still haven't noticed it gather 3 friends and play on split screen. If you still haven't noticed it t's time to stop playing on 50cc.
I am not talking about The Last of Us. It's a lazy port by the way. I am talking about Nintendo developing for other consoles. And point is if MK8 can run at 60fps without AA on Wii U, the aditional power of a PS4 or even better a PC would allow for 60fps and AA. Why do you even talk about TLoU? My original post was about how Nintendo games would be better on another console or PC, and a guy had to shitpost the PS4 with the "30fps™" meme.
>Some buttmad sonypony was mad enough to change all sony references in this pic to nintendo.
President Eisenhower said that it was most important for his subordinates to be "selfless". That means, he wanted the people under him to be supportive of him and be able to put their own personal beliefs aside so that they may do a better job serving.
I believe Dan Adelmen is no exception. Because Dan was employed by Nintendo, he should have the strength of character to put his personal beliefs aside and be supportive of Nintendo. The fact that he had problems controlling his tongue shows his struggle with selflessness. However, he has all the right to leave, but I do not believe his point of "not being able to say what's really on his mind" is a valid vindication on Nintendo's part because employees should be, to their best ability, supportive of their employer.
Friendly reminder that Nintyfags are so far up Nintys asshole that they will defend this.
>Censoring the very same guy who is responsible for relations with indiedevs
[spoiler}You next post will show me that you do not understand the difference between badmouthing your employer and criticizing him. Calling it now.
