Opinions on this platformer /v/?
It's like a mix between STH and Rocket Knight Adventures but with Snes grafics.
It's okay, but nothing mind blowing. The plot and supporting characters look out of a cheap fan fiction with furry deviantart characters.
Worth a buy, but not worth the hype.
IT NEEDS MORE PORN.
You would think the lewd fanart would be overflowing, but there's barely pictures out there, and it's a shame given how cute and exploitable the characters look. Get it on, furry artists.

8.5/10, best Sonic game in years
Played the demo that came out a couple years ago, but from what I hear the release version is pretty different. Despite that I enjoyed the demo even though it felt like a Sonic ripoff (not really a terrible thing IMO). I'll probably grab this during the fall/winter Steam sale, though.
It's was pretty great fun. I wish recent Sonic games controlled as smoothly as it did.
I wish the devs did some advertising though, because barely anybody knows about it. The only people that bought it were people that knew about it before it released and Kickstarter backers.
Welp guess I'll masturbate later then
from what I recall, it started out as a sonic-based fangame on sonicretro, using the sonic worlds multimediafusion engine, except they're charging for it
play [Before / After] the Sequel instead; same engine but it's free
The physics are extremely finicky. You can jump on walls and run on them, but only sometimes. And sometimes going down a slope will make you go faster, and other times it won't.
Also why are the character designs so fucking bad?
I like that. It means you aren't forced to go fast and can play the game how you want. You can take it slow, explore, and fight enemies or you can go fast and burst through levels. Requiring momentum would force people to go fast at parts.
Well at least I like that part about the physics
I keep fucking up.
I'll just delete it and call it a day.
Except they removed all of the original assets, created their own assets and music, put more emphasis on combat, and didn't force the gotta go fast shit on people. Plus various different playable characters with very different play styles.
I'm dangerously tempted to buy it on
vitaif it ever comes out on it.
I figured it'd be another sonic clone, and it kinda was, but when I played it I had genuine fun.
You can run up walls as any character as long as there is a slope turning up onto the wall. Otherwise the only way to go up a wall is by wall jumping as Carol. Dunno if Milla can wall jump or not.
As for the character designs, to each their own I guess but I LOVE the character designs. At least much more than Sonic designs, anyways.
Maybe one of these will be more to your liking? I loved that track, personally. Seemed like epic battle music.
Well it spoiled a major part in the story where characters realized just
how in over their heads they were. And also it takes away the shocking feeling of the scene after having been introduced to the characters as childish funloving kids. (Sushi and cooties scenes)
I want to
pet_Milla, _hugCarol and cuddleLilac
>I actually personally know the fucker who drew these
Well I would. I mean even if the plot wasn't told well at all, there was still stuff that could be spoiled about it that would make some moments less impactful knowing about them.
Besides, I think its better that it at least tried to do something with its plot. Its a lot less boring than the plot of a Mario or Sonic game.
Yeah, but none of the characters that you play as are introduced yet. You aren't introduced to Prince Dail or his father beforehand, so you have less reason to care about what's happening to them. That isn't the case with other events with the story.
Wanting more people to know about a game doesn't mean someone is a dev.
>Oh man milla sure you can touch my hair
>haha, torque has cooties!!!!
>spade we are no longer red scarves!!!!!
>I can't lose another crew!!!!!
HURR TORTURE A MAIN CHARACTER
lol oops sorry for trying to capture you lilac here take a fanservice bath
I CAN'T KILL MILLA OFF I AM SUCH A PUSSY
I'd take a simple plot over a fucking mess.
>That isn't the case with other events with the story.
To be honest i think only children might be able to enjoy the story enough like to care about getting spoiled about something like that. And we're on 4chan, that kind of stuff is so tame no regular here would bat an eye.
I've been here for a year and I thought it was intense Not that a year is very long
Plus I think no story should ever be spoiled unless the plot really is as simple as a Mario game.
There's a torrent, but I think its for an older version of the game. The game has been updated since to fix some bugs.
>hey lets make lilac have no personality at all
>hey lets make carol a douchebag
Hey lets make a bunch of reasons to like and feel bad for milla and then not kill her off lol
>hey lets make torque have back story that doesn't come up until the end of the game.
I don't know what you consider good writing, but it's definitely not this game.
JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Part IX: Freedom Planet sucks just WWE It.
I said the same thing about a little girl in a video game and the next thing you know I invite my friends over and we're all circlejerking to pics of her
it's a dangerous road to like little girls
this is a pic of a little girl that i liked and the next thing you know I'm going around fucking my best friends in the ass and jacking them off and then getting fucked in the ass
there is nothing cute you faggot it's all sex you just wnana shove your hornly little dick in a man's ass
music is good, graphics are alright, but the voice acting and story sucks
also you should transition to run much more quickly
It's nice to remember what an actually difficult final boss feels like
Lilac's base speed limit should be the moment she starts doing the sonic legs thing. actual speed limit should be twice as fast as it currently is but only for Lilac, running up walls should no longer be a thing.
Carol wasn't a douchebag, she was a tomboy. Rough and tough.
As for Lilac, she was just the hero that can do no wrong. Boring I'll admit.
As for Milla, she really
should have died, but the deus ex machina thing with that isn't necessarily terrible.
As for Torque, when was his backstory brought up towards the end? I thought that was brought up on like the 4th level, what with his past crew and Brevon probably
being responsible for what happened to them
Fuck Dwayne, I just unlocked Gilbert Gottfried in Freedom Planet
If there's no up-to-date version, is there a place I can buy Freedom Planet other than Steam? I don't want people thinking I'm a furry
Unless you've IRL friends on Steam who would cringe at you playing a furry game, get the game and if anyone says something you can tell them
a liethat you got the game only because it reminded you of Sonic the Hedgehog.
>carol wasn't a douchebag
"Lilac we can't save torque fuck you we're not friends anymore"
>but the deus ex machina thing with that isn't necessarily terrible.
It is when the dev is a fucking baby for why. I wish I had the picture but I'm on another computer right now.
>As for Torque, when was his backstory brought up towards the end?
Stage 8 to FD1 cutscene. The 3-4 cutscene he just mopes.
>Tried googling for Freedom Planet on Google
>This is one of the results
"Lilac we can't save torque fuck you we're not friends anymore"
I'd hardly call that being a douchebag. Lilac was expecting her friends to
threaten their own lives over a space rock. Its not out of the question that someone'd be uncomfortable with that.
I'll agree that the dev really should've
killed her, but he did plan on a sequel and he probably wanted more playable characters.
Having played through most the game so far, the dialogue makes me raise an eyebrow sometimes, and when combined with voice acting it's sometimes cringe inducing. The actual gameplay is pretty solid though it's slower than I'd like. Lilac should be faster. Pretty much what >>256134546 said. Music is good and I also wish the spritework was more polished, but eh.
>the chaos em- kingdom stone
>a space rock
Except for that whole fucking energy crisis thing where they're risking their lives for the entirety for the planet.
And seriously, it's fucking greedy to be thinking about the sequel before the fucking original game does well.
Exactly. Realistically I just wish they had left the shitty voice acting out and it would have been less painful. I haven't bothered to check if I could turn it off or if it has it's own volume slider, but I should.
Its just a plan. Obviously he's going to be finishing this game.
>people should risk their lives for the good of others
That's still a lot to ask of someone.
I'd say its more that he just wants to do more. If I loved a project I did I'd want to make a sequel if it was open for that. It wouldn't be for more money but simply because I want to.
>all this shitposting because people are sperging over a Steam game
And people say Nintendo and Sony have the worst fan bases
Favorite song on the ost here
Pangu Lagoon 2 for that nice guitar bit
also Final Dreadnought 3
I can't remember, is sushi purely a Japanese thing with no influence from China? If so, then it's pretty stupid to have it in a Chinese setting.
Although, their world could just be some weird mixture of Asian cultures (although I feel like it was mostly China) at which point who cares.
Just remember, to lilac, carol is like lilac's tail, always right behind her.
And no, it's not "just what he wants to do". The fucking kickstarter literally has a stretch goal for them to be working on the sequel.
Those too, its hard to decide.
That Pangu Lagoon remix on the official soundtrack is great.
And why did he put that stretch goal there in the first place? Granted, he could have put it there because people might funded it more, but he could have also put it there because he maybe, just maybe, wanted to actually make another game after he was done.
You can't honestly assume someone wants to do something just for the money with that. Honestly, in my silly "I want to make games" thoughts I've thought about wanting to make like 4 games in a series without even having really put detailed thought about just a single one. Its not out of the question someone would want to do a lot.
So how well did you guys do by the end? Any bosses you had trouble with? Final Dreadnaught 2 gave me a heck of a time what with the boss there.
Played the game on hard and wound up with 298 deaths.
Because then there's no reassurance that the first product will even be good. "Oh well sorry about those flaws, but the sequel won't have them!"
It's all about making sure the first game is good, always. When you have sequel thoughts, they make you lose focus on the original project at hand.
First run as Lilac Pre-nerf I had the most trouble with Brevon form 2. Actually had an easier time with his third form.
Damn that was a great fight, I loved how hed throw me into a sanic run, and his obscene knife blowing me into feathers.
Lilac is best girl, all others are meh tier
Pangu Lagoon stage of the year all years
Fast and platforming, good music (Pangu Lagoon 2 is elder god tier), good boss fights
Coldspade the pandaheg is pretty much the worst character in the game, and that's saying something
Hot electrical torture
There, summed the game up for you
The game is shit and it only got more shit later on. There are so many problems with this shitheap that it gives me a migraine to remember my experience. This kinda shit used to be free, now some pretentious faggots are jewing people out of money for a half-baked romhack fangame.
So feel free to get the fuck back in your containment general and circlejerk some more since no one else wants to see anymore threads about yet another shitty autistic indie platformer.
Well he's not done with the current project yet. He's still working on bug fixing, making game overs have meaning, and more playable characters.
Most of them came from the last few levels.
Impressive. What challenge level did you play on?
His throw was really cool, though in some ways it did help me beat him. I'd constantly burst forward with my special when he fell after his attacks, and when he threw me my special started to hurt him but the throw canceled my special, allowing me to do it again.
Except there's nothing from Sonic in it. At most it has a Sonic engine. Otherwise its all original. And this shit is far from stuff you'd get for free regularly. Some people will no doubt put their work out for free, but many will believe their hard work deserves reward. Considering this went above and beyond by having all its own original sprites, music by Woofle (did music for Bunny Must Die), voice acting, and a storyline that isn't as simple as "Eggman has captured these animals! Stop them" I'd say its very much justified in being sold.
Is it perfect? Fuck no. Its got bugs, game overs don't mean anything at the moment, there are characters that don't have their own story mode yet, hit and miss voice acting, an okay story, and a couple bosses feel cheap. But the levels are very open and nonlinear, fit for two characters who have VERY different playstyles, have plenty of secrets in them, and are built for either speeding through the level or enjoying lots of platforming. You won't likely accidentally run into an enemy while going at high speeds very often, as the game will stop you should there be enemies nearby. That prevents the frustration old Sonic games used to give, and the game has Mega Man X level boss fights where you need to figure out their movements and adjust for battle accordingly. Basically, it has great level design, good music, beautiful visuals, and a good challenge as well as a storyline that isn't super simple, even if it isn't perfect.
/vg/ just exists for shit that get a shit ton of threads. Threads on this game have died down.
>no one else wants to see anymore threads about yet another shitty autistic indie platformer
And on the contrary, if there are more indie platformers like this one, I'd love to play them. I was planning on hitting Bunny Must Die at some point, but otherwise I don't know where to go as far as that's concerned. I'd love more threads on indie platformers.
The dev added a few things to make the game easier. A lot of it was left alone in hard mode but ultimately there were some things that were changed altogether to make the game easier. Brevon's throw used to kill people if their life petals were out.
>that giant rebuttal paragraph
Good job getting defensive about something I never said, sperglord.
>nothing Sonic in it
Except for the everything it ripped off.
>a storyline that isn't as simple as "Eggman has captured these animals! Stop them"
Caught my eye here. It should have been simple. Instead it was overcomplicated with things that weren't explained out of the context it was needed for and many plotholes friends have complained about since I was not going to sit through giant-ass, terrible cutscenes to try and figure some fanfic shit out.
>not a containment board
You truly are deluded. Or just really new.
>the last line
You have shit taste. Bunny Must Die, as far as I'm concerned, is the same type of pretentious indie garbage with a furry skin plopped on it. I forget what game it rips off though.
Try saving the gas cans in the arena for when you fight him. Some of his attacks you can just run under. The jump pads in the arena can help, if you time them right you can get a pounce attack right onto him.
>oh no he's right about this shitty game, better go to ad hom and project a lot
I kinda saw that too. Still, things were built to some degree with Carol in mind, what with the jump pads and some alternate paths.
You called it a fangame and a romhack and also called it shit.
It took Sonic and made it better. Then again I hate Genesis Sonic games.
>it was overcomplicated with things that weren't explained out of context it was needed for
There was quite a bit out of context and left unexplained, however some of it that wasn't explained in one character's playthrough was explained in another. And if that's the case, chances are with Strife wanting to add in other characters there is probably going to be a little more added in to fill in some holes with those character's stories. At the moment its not too terribly broken up.
I'm not sure which ones you're talking about. I didn't notice any in particular, with the main one mentioned to me had to do with Brevon yelling "We don't need oxygen" despite having air ducts on his ship, which could be easily explained what with some of his troops and robots and other shit. Plus he stole stuff from other people, so the ship may not have even been his.
Other than that though, I'm not sure which ones you're talking about.
>since I was not going to sit through terrible cutscenes
There was a whole mode for that. And a skip button.
This is something that recently has been getting at me. Fanfiction people like to make fun of for having shit writing and stories, but in reality they range from being extremely terrible to Stephen King level of good.
Also, to add to what I was saying about the story:
Honestly, I hate simple storylines usually. I like to see a game try and have some fuck ups than just opt for something simple. It helps create a whole world and characters and motives etc to think about. It adds an air of mystery among other things.
This also should honestly help the creator see some faults in it and help improve himself as a writer too.
Not even close. Making an objective statement and justifying it with a subjective statement makes you an imbecile.
>the next 2 paragraphs
Like I said, this is coming from a wiki and friends take on it and a stream one of them did that included the cutscenes so I hardly know of any specific instances because I judge a game on gameplay first because I'm not a retard.
>There was a whole mode for that. And a skip button.
It shouldn't have needed to have existed. It existing implies the story, characters, and VA is bad enough to warrant a built in skip button. And I made damn sure to use it.
>Stephen King level
Maybe if you're 12 and reading it. I hope this isn't the case.
Sonic is in every way superior to this and every argument you have for thinking fp is better in the many threads I've discussed this is also addressed in that shitty previously recorded show crap and it came down to them complaining about the game when it was their fault for being shit. You should acquire some skill, because this game certainly requires none of the technical variety.
You have shit taste as well.
It's called having a discussion about a game. The OP asked for my opinion and I gave it and someone is disputing and hopefully trying to understand why I think that way like he should. You should try it sometime, faggot.
You're anally blasted, you find every single of the game bad, which means, you're in a advanced level of brain damage or you're just tryhard trolling to fit with "/v/'s culture" .
This has plenty of fun, difficulty and speedrun material. Most played game this month so far for me.
>my opinion is fact and if you don't like it you're mentally challenged or a troll and I can't into grammar either
Sure, I find a lot of the game terrible but as a whole it's not complete slop. It's something worth torrenting if that means anything to you. It's a solid 4/10 game.
inb4 another autistic reply
ok we get it dude. the rest of us can only care so much about your opinions.
Yea I know, they should be raising up the early levels difficulty so that it eases you in, rather than a huge spike at the end.
>lilacs va just losing it
I'm >>256139443 and honestly perhaps we all just have different taste.
Fine, if you must know why:
Old Sonic games are lacking in color. They aren't very colorful or pretty to look at. And on a less unimportant note, old Sonic level design is built so that its very easy to start moving fast. Its Sonic's gimick after all. But the way levels are built, they constantly put enemies right in the set path you're supposed to go in while running fast, so you'll just run right into them and get hurt. There is also very little in terms of combat, and while it may be subjective, I like the combat of FP as its a lot like Megaman X (a game I much prefer over Sonic). Sonic physics also requires one to be going fast to go up slopes, which forces the player to play the game to go fast, taking away gameplay options. FP isn't like this.
I've got a question, as I want to be sure: Do Sonic games have time limits on the levels?
>I judge a game on gameplay first
But some games (not FP of course) put story as the highest priority of a game. Story can oftentimes be important.
>It shouldn't have needed to have existed. It existing implies the story, characters, and VA is bad enough to warrant a built in skip button. And I made damn sure to use it.
I think that was more there for people who don't care about being told stories or want to play it more like an old Sonic game or something that had little focus on story. Granted, it was probably also put there for the purpose of giving an option to people who don't like the story, but the option was necessary for other reasons. While I enjoyed the cutscenes (even stuff like sushi and cooties scenes), others may find that they drag things out too long. Imagine MGS4 without the ability to skip cutscenes for people who don't give a shit about the story. It'd be terrible.
To be fair so do I
To add to what I just said:
>You should acquire some skill, because this game certainly requires none of the technical variety.
The game, like a Megaman game, was built to where a few of the tougher enemies and most of the bosses required the player to learn the movements and enemy attack patterns in order to be able to successfully dodge attacks, find exploits, and beat each boss. Some had extra forms, which then were surprises if you were previously dying from a previous form, requiring even more learning. It had a challenge, especially when it came down to Final Dreadnaught 2 pre update, as that level had no checkpoints in the first half. It was tense and you had to be careful. Despite that being changed, the dev is now planning on making game overs start you at the beginning of the level in most cases, which should increase difficulty.
>game worth torrenting
If a game is at a point to where you feel its not worth paying for, then its probably not even worth downloading.
I actually just hate piracy. But then again, I don't buy Steam games unless its something I badly want to play, so I have a very small library of games.
>Old Sonic games are lacking in color
Nigga, what the FUCK are you talking about?
I just got into Final Dreadnaught 2, what should i expect?
>ok we get it dude. the rest of us can only care so much about your opinions
And that's you guys have a general to circlejerk in. Doesn't seem to be "shitposted" in as much and it could use the discussion.
STOP! That is false. That is a notion even the developers fell for when they made SA1. He was always about platforming with momentum. Speed was just a byproduct of the momentum and as such became a reward for being able to keep and increase the speed using the physics and momentum by being good at the game and having fast reactions. The risk for going super duper fast was that reacting to enemies became harder.
The colors on the other hand is simply a limitation of the console and bitching about that is just stupid because there is nothing they could do about that after the fact and any attempt to change it later would cause nostalgiafags to flip shit and they would rather just emulate it than remake it.
>But some games (not FP of course) put story as the highest priority of a game. Story can oftentimes be important.
I should also mention my grading scale is not skewed. 5 is average and my grading is weighted so the most important aspect of the game holds more weight when I judge it. It's just that this game does so much outside of the gameplay that is bad that it managed to drag it down. The 4 in the 4/10 is 3 points gameplay, 1 point music.
The style this game was made in clashed heavily with the type of story it tried to tell which caused it to fail horribly. It should have told the story through gameplay not long winded cutscenes more cringeworthy than the new pacman series.
The difficulty settings only changed numbers, not AI. And that is artificial difficulty. Though I can't complain since it wasn't hard even on hard.
This is the only game I have ever pirated because it's not worth anywhere near $15.
I stand corrected.
But Sonic doesn't always look that pretty.
Though if someone shows me a shitty looking part of Freedom Planet then I'll outright admit I'm wrong completely
If you have the update, expect the level's main difficulty to come from poison spewing flowers and those soldiers that run left and right. Also needing to find lots of key cards. The update probably made the level easier (adding checkpoints), but you will probably still find the final boss to be cheap as fuck. Expect to have most of your deaths from the whole game to come from the boss fight on Dreadnaught 2. He'll move extremely fast left and right.
Carol can infinitely walljump. This is the key - head to one of the side walls and keep walljumping to avoid attacks. In the meantime your special bar should fill up, so you can wild kick the asshole and take advantage of the invincible frames when he gets close to you.
There are other bosses where this strategy will help as well, just stick to the upper part of a wall to avoid 99% of attacks. If you are being targeted by a homing type projectile (certain boss that uses a machine comes to mind) stick to the wall but don't jump just yet - let Carol slide down and jump only when necessary.
Try to always have at least a piece of your special bar (up to the single vertical mark Carol has in her bar). This allows you to wild kick and avoid damage.
Yea those I-frames are the shit.
Doesnt even make sense, kicking so fast you become invulnerable.
Stop attention whoring chucklefuck, you abously mostly hate the game than liking it, i see no reason for you to be in this thread unless you're eighter elitist or mentally ill.
Because adults are having a discussion about a video game. Shouldn't you be in bed or are you one of those annoying eastern yuropeans because your grammar makes me believe that you are not a native english speaker.
Dreadnaught 2 with Carol was the one with a 'fire chain' attack and a bottomless pit, right? This one was piss easy thanks to infinite walljumping - fire can't hit you in the upper part.
Be thankful for those frames, you'll never beat the final levels without them. Protip: Most bosses make specific sounds before attacks that swoop around and can hit you. By timing your wild kick you can easily avoid such attacks.
>haven't heard of the game
>look it up on TPB to see if there are any torrents
i heartily chuckled.
Air vent Milla to the rescue
>He was always about platforming with momentum.
But that limits gameplay options. What if I want to take it slow?
>That is a notion even the developers fell for when they made SA1
Are you implying Sonic Adventure 1 is bad?
Because that's one of the Sonic games I don't dislike.
I even really like its sequel
>The style this game was made in clashed heavily with the type of story it tried to tell which caused it to fail horribly.
What do you mean by this? It looking cutesy and not being cutesy at times?
It depends really. Changing numbers so to speak to make things easier can potentially make it hard to die and easy to slice through enemies. There is something to increased difficulties, though I'll agree there is a point to where its just needlessly making things long and tedious. But if the game makes enemies take longer to die and you easier to die, it forces you to make less mistakes which increases your ability playing the game.
Yeah. but I played as Lilac. If that dude is playing as Lilac he's screwed.
>Milla saving my ass yet again
and thats when I knew she was best gril
>But that limits gameplay options. What if I want to take it slow?
That's the thing. It doesn't limit you. It gives you more options. You can take it nice and slow and enjoy yourself that way or if you think you're good enough you can start building up speed past the initial cap and blast through the levels, minus a couple. The momentum was simply a game mechanic that added some depth to the game. The magic about games is that good ones allow you to play any way you want though Sonic 1 is notorious for requiring some speed building since the spin dash was not a thing at that point.
>Are you implying Sonic Adventure 1 is bad?
Nope. Just saying it's a completely different style of game from the Genesis game that revolved purely around speed, which the hardcore classic Sonic fans didn't really like since his speed could get uncontrollable with the added third dimension.
>What do you mean by this? It looking cutesy and not being cutesy at times?
As in it looked simple and took inspiration from simple times and would have benefited from a different type of storytelling than what it had.
>It depends really.
Take MGR as example. Very Hard was a load of shit because you became glass while enemies became damage sponges while ramping up the AI. Revengeance was completely fair because both you and the enemies were glass and the counterparry did shittons of damage and it promoted you doing just that. It also made the AI more reliant on flanking and ganging up on you than just bum rushing you endlessly. That's how I see it at least.
Every game has it's highs and lows. You simply have a preference for borderline eyekilling neon color pallets while I prefer the artist to use everything depending on what he's painting.
You sure are.
Why are you so butthurt that someone doesn't like the game?
It's ok for people to not like what you like. I'm in love with most of the gameplay but won't even wipe my ass with what it passes for a story. I'd like to see it come together, but what was the intent and what actually was shoved in the game last minute is entirely disjointed.
>Can't take it slow
What the fuck? Yes you can. Most Sonic games don't make you go fast as you like to believe. Sonic CD focused on exploration, Sonic 1 has conflicted old school platformer mentality once you get past Green Hill, Sonic 2 and 3 speed things along but never too fast. Only the more modern games practically force you along a path like Sonic 4 and the later Advances/Rush. Thing is aside from CD there isn't too much to do going slow.
The story is just not cohesive at all. The length of the story was completely assine for a platformer game, and to slim it down they chopped it up instead of streamlining it. They were shoving in cutscenes at the last minute to cram for launch. It's ok to knock the game for that because it's the truth. For some it detracts from the gameplay somehow, but I am not one of those people.
Actually now the hard mode end bosses have the behaviors of the pre-nerf patch on top of a numbers buff.
Time to work on shooping that hedgehog onto pic related.
Yes. It comes with 7 more tracks, but its also missing like 2, probably because I heard that the 2 missing were by Strife himself. Its also of a higher quality than the data folder files.
>Sonic 1 has conflicted old school platformer mentality once you get past Green Hill
I could never get past Green Hill though.
>Rarely, I'm big on music fitting the mood
Well now I know why.
Whenever I listen to music from videogames I nearly always head for the battle music.
>I could never get past Green Hill though.
I can't help you there. Saying Sonic is bad because you can't beat the easy-ass first level is just wrong. I hope you decide to try it again some day and can get past the first level and enjoy yourself. Maybe you'll realize why I make the comparison to Sonic and why I think it's worse.
>never get passed green hill
How the fuck did you play this game? There is like one pit that will eat your lives if you are the most casual piece of shit. Then its off to linear and tedious Marble zone. Did you even play 2 or 3? Did you even try CD?
But you have to build up speed in order to go up slopes and ramps.
Oh. I guess I need to play something other than Sonic 1. I'd play Sonic 3 and Knuckles if my game disc for it wouldn't play incorrectly on my computer. For some reason the screen is extremely small and the game plays at insanely high speeds (everything from the menu forward moves too quickly).
>As in it looked simple and took inspiration from simple times and would have benefited from a different type of storytelling than what it had.
But what about Mega Man X games? They in look aren't all that different from Freedom Planet and they had some focus on story and it didn't seem out of place. (I've played Megaman X4 and X5 in case I'm wrong about earlier ones)
Because voice acting isn't the main course of a game?
Then again I never really care very much about VAs.
I played the original on the Gamecube (Sonic Adventure DX came with it) and brief bits of others at a friend's house on his Sega Genesis Collection for PS3. I don't know which ones though.
Megaman X didn't have six minute cutscenes. They lasted at best a minute. The cutscenes in freedsom planet are not only too long they're filled with shit that doesn't matter to the story and could easily have been cut out.
Different anon by the way
Sonic 1 is definitely not the best Sonic and for that exact reason. Both 2 and 3&K are superior in every way.
The first 3 MMX games told the story exclusively through gameplay and extremely short in game dialogue. MMX4 is notorious and made fun of a lot for the cheesy animated cutscenes. MMX5 had very few and was complex enough at that point that it needed a few to explain what the hell was going on.
The choice of words do not help the voice acting at all but the way the characters speak feels stilted and unnatural. You would have to watch something with good, proper english voice acting side by side to tell the difference if you aren't native.
I actually don't know other than Prince Dail's father actually.
In the cutscene before the game starts where Prince Dail's father is killed, Prince Dail's father exaggerates some words more than others too much.
As for the other characters, I don't actually know what's wrong with them. 2 of the three main characters sound like children, but they're supposed to.
>they're filled with shit that doesn't matter to the story
But some of that was for characterization and/or comedy.
Classic mode isn't the game's main focus. They put a good 30% of their effort into the story. Story that if removed could have had resources directed to other things like a better physics engine, no reused bosses or stage 2 not being shit.
I liked those cutscenes...I mean they were silly yeah, and the story as a whole was kind of silly, but I found it fun nonetheless. I can't really say why though, so I guess how I feel about it doesn't amount to anything important.
Yeah. The cooties scene with them watching a movie and all helped push the fact that these were just children. They weren't heroes or very mature. They were cute young children, and that's what that was for.
I thought it was cute. Not gonna excuse the story entirely but still.
Thats how teenage girls work
Fluff and banter is fun. But it's handled like shit because of all the cuts elsewhere. I agree with the "humor" being entirely off. Cute girls doing cute things is hard to fuck up.
But Carol has qt voice and is the most fun to play as.
I hate how with Lilac you had to wait for your meter to charge if you wanted to go vertical.
You have your priorities wrong, nig.
Man, I liked all the VA in the game.
I even liked Torque's voice acting. He sounded alien and out-of-place, but he still showed emotion. And isn't that what he's all about?
Also, best credits scene
Only parts I didn't like were probably the FORCED DRAMA ones. Mainly from Lilac.
>Torque needs help
I don't get that. Torque sounded almost just like that one Funimation actor...I'll find his name in a minute, but its the one who plays the male lead in Aria: The Scarlet Ammo, Death the Kid in Soul Eater, and was the friend of the main character in Summer Wars.
You liked them because you were basically told to like them instead of growing attached to them and when the devs realized this, they added to torture scene to try and force you to like them. They have no personality past that of sheet of paper with words telling you what they're like.
You can enjoy them and I'm happy that you enjoyed them but still understand that because you don't understand why you like them, it can't be used as a part of an argument when looking at something as a whole.
>Thats how teenage girls work
Maybe in a misrepresentation using the most over-exaggerated stereotype of teenage girls because no teen girl I ever knew acted anything like this and wasn't avoided and shunned for being that weird obnoxious girl that only ever talks about anime and yaoi or some shit like that.
>Maybe in a misrepresentation using the most over-exaggerated stereotype of teenage girls because no teen girl I ever knew acted anything like this and wasn't avoided and shunned for being that weird obnoxious girl that only ever talks about anime and yaoi or some shit like that.
It sounds like someone's projecting
Brb starting my Milla classic mode playthrough.
Beat the game, enjoyed it thoroughly, will replay as Carol after I'm done with TiTS.
Loved the amount of polish it had.
Would be cool if the dev makes extra lives and continues actually MEAN anything. Pretty stupid how they're just there for decoration atm.
Sky Battalion best music
Todd Haberkorn! That's who I was thinking of.
>You can enjoy them and I'm happy that you enjoyed them but still understand that because you don't understand why you like them, it can't be used as a part of an argument when looking at something as a whole.
I know. That's why I said that my word doesn't mean much since I don't know why.
>they added to torture scene to try and force you to like them
The torture scene wasn't there to force you to like the characters. I don't see how that could make you like them. It was there because the game already spent time attempting to get you to grow attached to the characters through those dumb cutscenes about cooties and stuff.
>because no teen girl I ever knew acted anything like this
Huh. I forgot about this.
I would add that while I can't attest to girls, many child boys start out at a young age thinking girls have "cooties" and disliking girls because of that for a few years. Considering Milla and Carol were still young, its somewhat excusable and realistic for them to act that way. As for Lilac...Maybe she was acting the motherly type trying to follow what goes on in the younger ones' minds?
>Would be cool if the dev makes extra lives and continues actually MEAN anything. Pretty stupid how they're just there for decoration atm.
Dev noticed that and is working on fixing it to where in most cases if you get a game over you have to start the level over again. That will not be the case all the time though, as he feels that it would make the last few boss fights unnecessarily difficult.
>Sky Batallion music
That whole level was straight out of Mega Man X4. It was Storm Owl's level, even in music. I loved it.
I know, the lives are pretty much superficial at this time.
But hey, without them we couldnt have pic related!
Lilac is like 15 or so I heard. So not much older
If anything the torture scene was to make it clear just how "I don't fuck around" Brevon was.
I honestly ended up liking him the best. I want a Brevon game
>The torture scene wasn't there to force you to like the characters.
The dev flat out says this in a post not from 4chan. Someone posted a screencap but I didn't save it at the time but someone here surely has it.
Characters can't consist 100% of quirks or trope personalities. They need depth and to have depth you have to experience them and the way they think and act naturally. None of the characters feel natural, much like the voice acting.
I assumed so.
Brevon is just a more shallow Eggman. I don't see why people are making such a fuss over him other than he's just Eggman Jr.
Yeah but at 15 there's no way you're still in the "opposite gender has cooties" stage.
Brevon was an ass and I loved him for it. His occasional sarcasm was nice too.
>Oh, my actions hurt people? I had no idea.
Eggman is in no way bad at what he does, Sonic just manages to stop him overall. He is evil. Do you not pay attention? He was diabolical in the old games, maniacal in SA1 and generations, and completely ruthless and evil in SA2 and Unleashed.
Not to mention completely glassing Knothole and physically and mentally breaking Sonic and planned to use his friends and family to as fuel for his city with no remorse.
Are you on the right board?
The characters are animal people, so what? You can't tell me that talking about video games, even ones with animal people, isn't allowed. Not with the Star Fox and Solatorobo threads.
Saying you like a game isn't marketing. See>>256132560
Yeah. One week we had like 3 in the same week a couple weeks ago. First two threads were filled with mostly just talk about lore and the future of the series too. People actually talk about the games.
I wonder how long it'll be till there's a Hard mode speedrun uploaded somewhere. I'm genuinely curious if this game can even be beaten quickly with the bosses being as tricky as they are, specially the final ones.
Nope. Genuinely good threads. Most shitposters leave them alone. Probably because most people don't know anything about Solatorobo. Those who do are usually ones who care a lot about the games.
I'll make a Solatorobo thread if you want. I've been wanting a reason to share a link I found related to the game that most people probably forgot existed
Well, I was referring more to the running fast than the fast FPS
Like a continuous run through all levels?
I mean I see individual levels being done, including the bosses.
Oh Id love that, but I am sad that I couldnt be up to much longer.
I'd spend all night in one. How about this evening? a nice sunday night sola thread..
Wow thats a big ol thread
/v/ can be good?
nooo everytime I see those my wallet gets itchy
Yep we're good people.
as long as you dont talk lewd about our milla
It's a terrible day when people need to make a fucking general for an indie game because of a couple of incredibly persistent shitposters. Still, it's cool it's there and I hope it lasts more then a couple threads.
I just beat Spade!
Also wow, playing as Carol helped a good bit in adding some to Spade's character and information on the Red Scarves.
True, but the threads here have died down significantly from when this game first came out and I fear its because of the shitposting.
>not knowing Coldsteel
I'm surprised you get internet connection under that rock
That day i realised furry haters were even more cancerous than the furries themselves.
Made with the specific intention of trolling people on 4chan, ironically enough.
I know because I know a guy on FAF who's talked with this person about it
Either way, every group has their means of being annoying.
Probably. I like sales, but considering there's a DRM free version available that will probably never go on sale due to Humble Widget, I'll probably just nab that version eventually.
I'm just running low on cash and have a large enough backlog that this isn't a priority right now.
In all honesty like 10 of those hours were spent sleeping or talking on 4chan taking a break.
Then a lot of the rest was spent trying to beat FD, yes. Fucking Mega Serpentine man...
I-I don't like you either anon.
That comic is fucking weird. The dude is a decent artist too. Why he chooses that comic as what he puts his art towards...It seems like a waste.
Really though, that guy did that to fuck with people here much like shitposters on /v/ shitpost to screw with people. Don't let it bother you or help justify some opinion of a group of people.
Just be sure to click the small "Get this torrent" with the magnet symbol, not the large ads-in-disguise buttons. You'll also need uTorrent/Bittorrent and an unzipping program.
After all that, enjoy the truest Sanic game in 20 years.
>Except for the everything it ripped off.
So by that logic Dishonored Riped of Deus Ex and Thief and therefore should not be played by anyone.
I am also gonna assume that most people should not play Divnie Dinvity because it ripped of Diablo.
Jazz jackrabbit is basically sonic w guns made by Cliff B.
And it gets praise to this day.
So will Brevon be easier or harder with Carol? And would the final battle benefit from me changing Brevon's final battle music to Cave Story's "Last Battle"? Now that I learned you can change the music in the game, I kind of want to have fun with it while still making it good.
No more. We know that webcomic is weird as fuck.
BREVON DID NOTHING WRONG
Hey, want a reminder on who popularized "furry hate"?
Something Awful forums. Even back then, they were a blight. Even tried to use popular AD characters to generalize the opinion and introduce hate for loli in the earlier days of 4chan.
Something awful was smarter than 4chan back then.
I'm in despair! This society that draws porn of cartoon animals has left me in despair!
Just wait until a certain someone decides that he needs a game made.
