I know in SMT IV if that happens, then the next time you talk to a demon of the same type they will recognize you and join you no questions asked, assuming you actually freed up a slot for it. Demon redesigns weren't all awful but they stuck out way too much, they should have tried to keep close to the original style. Voice acting was fine, character design was fine except Flynn having paper hair, Walter being a skeleton from the neck down, and Johnathan having a weird face in some scenes. Dungeons though, domains were Tartarus levels of awful.
