Not to mention there are two other fire-breathing dragons: A Pokémon and a mutant Ox-turtle, both of whom have been better defined through their series history in a more characteristic manner.

Ridley on the other hand does like what? Swing his claws, swoop and grapple you, blow energy blasts and uses his tail as a spear or a faux series of spikes. At best I see him as a flying, grappling type of character since his main thing is grabbing and squeezing the every loving piss out of you.

Adding to this, he's not made for ground combat like the other two dragons, I suppose you could argue he'd be the opposite of Little Mac in this way but this is a game where falling off the damned ledge is the thing you're trying to AVOID and damned if Ridley's recover is damned near broken.

Being a potential grapple character, that won't bode well for his viability but we shall see what Sakurai does. Personally, I half expect a vest and a blaster being added to him if he does make the cut.
