This whole generation really goes to show how poor the state of the video game market is, really.
Good games won't move a system no matter how many come out whilst games that pride themselves on their cinematics and little else, and constant first person shooters with nothing new to offer but a fresh coat of paint, will sell a system in the millions. Meanwhile the mobile market is booming on unethical business models that take advantage of consumers at every turn.
I really fear for what's still to come because there's no way this is lowest point. We need something big to shake things up.

Not everyone grew up with Nintendo games, I can care less about 2D platformer 1, 2D Platformer 2, 2D Platformer 3, Generational 3D Platformer, Generational Kart Racer and what else is there?

Wii U is still important. AMD said the only will make a semi-custom product for someone if they will make AMD 100 million+. If Wii U doesn't meet those goals, they won't be able to run to AMD for a custom APU.

It bothers me a bit because in 3 years anything besides SoC/APU is going to be dead in a console form factor and AMD is about the only company that can make something remotely decent for gaming.

It will boil down to ARM with some sort of shitty imagination GPU or AMD.

I've heard rumors in hardware sites that AMD might have gotten a contract for Ninty's next handheld. If it works we might see an APU similar to Xbone/PS4 in the next console and if Wii U does well enough.

If Wii U doesn't do well enough to get AMD's attention, I don't know what they will do. IBM Power is really fucked right now. Intel would cost way too much, and it's not cool to make separate CPUs and GPUs anymore.

2 - The casual market is moving to tablets, smartphones and free2play games
3 - Wii U has a horrible name so a lot of people think that it's a peripheral for the Wii
4 - With the Wii U Nintendo wanted to have more companies make 3rd party and AAA games just like they do for the other consoles but failed horribly due to the console using ARM and being so weak and just plain different compared to a PC and the new consoles (which are very similar). On top of that they ignore online play, online functionalities and it doesn't bring an hard drive

My honest opinion is that they're not going to get anywhere with EA, Activision, or Ubisoft at this point and would be better off trying to inject some of their own money into building "exclusive" 3rd party that just provides them with software that their own in-house efforts cannot (and thus fill in genre gaps, too). Den Den Town does not have a lot of the culture of cute, is smaller, and is much less Otaku-ish and more like a bunch of places to shop. The prices are way better than Akihabara or even Nakano.

Akihabara is unrivalled. It's a mecca for nerds. Imagine walking down the streets and hearing retro game music while a cute as fuck Japanese girl stands along the street in a maid costume (or other cosplay) and politely begs for you to come to their maid cafe in Japanese.

But Akihabara is extremely dense and extremely active and Osaka as a whole is a lot more laid back.

The first time I went to Osaka after leaving Tokyo, the first things that went through my were that Japanese aren't highly efficient robots where everything is perfectly organized. Osaka is a lot more Westernized in work ethic. Plus Osaka food is fucking amazing. Kuromon Market blew my fucking mind so hard I haven't been able to touch seafood from anywhere else.

Osaka is for living and Tokyo is for fun.

I think the games Nintendo is making sound quite safe, and since they don't have any support from third parties they need big hits. You have another dong game, another NSMB game, 3D World is a sequel to 3D Land, another Mario Kart.
