Yeah I mostly played in sandbox. The point at which I quit the campaign was a particular mission that was focused on combat and I didn't feel like dealing with it. I'm particularly impressed with how much care they put into making landscaping the biosphere floor fun.

Some of them are props than need to be placed in certain rooms, like medical equipment in sick bay.

Loved the biodeck aspects and the fact that all the aliens have their of own personalized background.

Still my favorite of these types of games ( management?) and one of my favorite games overall is Black & White. Just all the tiny mechanics from all the variables that go into your creatures A.I. to the simplest mechanic of trees seeding the ground you plant them and their growth.

Would have loved B&W2 quite a bit more if I wasn't locked into playing the Romans the whole game...

There are no armies or weapons for that matter since you live in eden with relatively peaceful tribes.

Your creature isn't just a super unit that you upgrade with "Tribute" and send to kill your enemy, its ridiculously complex A.I., closest I've ever seen to emulate a human child psychology. You have to nurture and teach it how you want it to behave and care for it long enough for it to learn how to care for itself. Or you could baby him his whole life and he'll die without your help.

It's just a really really neat game, very flawed, some find the Creature A.I. infuriating but thats basically what bringing kids up is.

I love Startopia, the ONLY downside I had with it, is there just wasn't enough things to keep me busy building. Once I got pretty much everything it just kinda got boring. I wish they added more buildings and units to it, or would of been nice if some modders did.

This game was the first and only thing I ever bought off of ebay. Got a obviously copied cd with no box and photocopied instructions.

Needless to say I played the shit out of it.
