>/v/ constantly obsesses over deep sea games.
>Nobody wants a game set in one of the worlds giant subterranean networks. Freaks of nature and lost worlds of undiscovered life.

Imagine it. A game thats simply you falling into a sinkhole and having to explore underground forests, city sized geodes, strange alien landscapes of fungi and bizaare bio luminescent spiders and shit. Just give it some plot of a chinese oil drilling company digging too greedily and two deep.
Nobody knows you are here, you cant call for help, nobodies going to save you.

Pressures great, but what about the dark secrets of THE HOLE?

TROOFAX: Some species like spiders, crabs, worms, all types of animals take part in "convergent evolution" where they all evolve the same way in a isolated deep, deep cave environment.
They become blind, completely transparent with internal organs visible, can hold their breath for insane amounts of time and develop to eat ANYTHING.

Mite b cool

I watched a program a while back about cave explorers exploring one of the world longest and deepest caves. They needed a whole team of people, several base camps at various intervals and about 2 weeks to get to the deepest parts. Having to do unexplored underwater sections all that sort of thing. Pretty scary really and incredibly dangerous.

Always wanted a survival type game where you get dropped into a location and have to battle the flora, fauna and elements to reach one of multiple exits, maybe with various equipment loadouts. Like Bear Grylls: the video game, or Survive that! the game (very similar kinds of programs) This could just be like the cave extension or add-on to it.

Fund it.

Gears of War 1 and 2 actually had a cool focus on caves. I know /v/ views them as generic dudebro TPSes, but the first two games were actually pretty cool and imaginative in this respect. The last game showed there really was never a coherent backstory, but it was very engaging at the time.

It started out cool with a vague conspiracy about a government knowing there's a whole race of cave people deep underground. Then in the second game, you find out they have a legit civilization. And/or they are the product of genetic engineering or something. Lots of intrigue and conspiracy stuff that could have been pretty cool in the end.

Also people mock the GIANT WOOORRRMMM! but I love absurdly oversized creatures that dwell underground. A massive worm is the least ridiculous giant creature IMO and could have made for a much cooler story is handled better.

Also RE5 has a part with caves and an ancient African civilization. It's very short though.

No, Neanderthals were NOT superior to us mentally, they just thought differently. They are the realists, we are the idealists.

Sadly, Neanderthals were too adapted to old Europe and Asia, and they died out due to inbreeding, interbreeding with us, and possible starvation.
>>
>>254272946
Supposedly they were actually bigger, stronger, faster, tougher and more intelligent. All around superior, it would seem.
Except there weren't that many of them. They tended to live in tiny, isolated clans. And needed to eat a hell of a lot.

Then we came along with our great numbers and ability to organise and cooperate better and just kept throwing pointy sticks at them until they died.
Also, their women loved sapiens sapiens dick.

You should read it, it's the best thing Miyazaki ever made. IMO he should've done more comics, the guy's genius at creating fantasy worlds and the time constraints of movies clearly don't give him enough space to show everything he wants to show us, thus leading to messy plots. Nausicaä has possibly my favorite lore of pretty much anything.

>touching the sides or bottom kicks up dirt and sand through the water blocking vision

>Depending on the area there are different species dwelling underneath
>Various air pockets or even "safe spots" you can rest in or form a camp in
>Deeper you go the darker and less effective your flashlight gets
>(I'd assume you'd have a crank flashlight for limitless use)
>Eventually if you get deep enough fuckhuge angler fish and other crazy sea monsters swim around, gets less cavey and more open-watery
>Survive as long as you can, if you're lucky find a way out
>Multiplayer mode with no communication whatsoever unless you're incredibly close to one another, having everyone split up at the beginning cause of some event that happens early in the expedition
>Some sort of crafting system maybe (Can't really think of what you'd make besides basic weapons or something)
>Hunger/thirst factors, some sea creatures are poisonous if you eat them

What else would make this game amazing?

>>254305410
That still very limits it, and would be troublesome to use.
The slow, looking text method would allow people to express whatever they wanted, easily, but the transmission of that expression would be difficult.

hard mode, preset chat system, with hand signals, but you have to memorize the hand signals to figure out what the other person is saying.
>>
>>254305849
Yeah I see your point.

But at the same time, isn't limiting the chat (At least underwater w/o radios) kinda the point?

Imagine if when you chose words (or phrases) it didn't even show text, your character literally just made a gesture and if someone was looking they would see it.

Would be cool if every character was equipped with a picture little notebook detailing all the gestures and what they mean
>>
>>254271787

>>

>>
>>254306442
And maybe you could craft something like a funnel or nozzle or some shit for your flashlight kinda turning it into a laser pointer

Or at least a much more contained light so you could point to things with it

Maybe instead of crafting, you could find corpses of other explorers/divers with things like crank radios on them
>>
>>254307159
crafting is overrated, unless for stupidly simple things (like maybe fixing an o2 hose leak with tape)
>>
>>254307348
That's what I was thinking. And crafting doesn't make much sense anyway in the game.

Should be kept to very simple repairs, and the off chance of discovering corpses with hopefully useful loot on them.

Perhaps finding a corpse with an empty air tank and you could equip two air tanks at once, so if you run out of air you can switch to your backup tank?
>>
>>254307486
no way to refill and empty tank.

>>
>>254307875
Damn.

So what would be a way to regain oxygen if your tank runs out?

Whether it would be something you bring down with you or something you find on a corpse?
>>
>>254305410
jesus, i can see it now. somebody rushing out of a dark cave, and the only word they can muster out of themselves is "DANGER"
you don't need words like "SHARK", "MONSTER" or any other crap like that. it's simple and gets the point across, but you still don't know what the hell is out there until you risk your ass taking a look.
>>
>>254308065
Or even worse, according to
>>254306096
You see them rushing out, repeatedly making the same hand gesture over and over again

You flip through your notebook as they swim past you, get to page 2 or 3 and see DANGER.

You then look up from your notebook and see
>>
>>254308029
I think the best way would be finding old, unused tanks.

>The water grows clearer. You swim, having finally reoriented yourself, away from the murky cloud. You pull twice on your partner's arm, and you can feel them match your pace.
>Suddenly, your hand is violently wrenched from theirs. You look around wildly, trying to spot their light with yours.
>You finally find your partner after what seems to be half an eternity. Their gear seems to have been caught on a rock, and they are struggling to be free. You swim towards them to assist.
>That's when you pause. What was that? A large gleam off to the side. It's gone. Your partner stops for the moment to look at you, then to the direction you're facing.
>Seeing nothing, your partner continues to try leveraging themselves off of the rock. The gleam returns, but even further below you. You can feel your damn heart beating faster as you try to help your partner
>Success! You manage to free them from the outcropping, and hastily swim back towards the direction you were going.
>You see movement ahead.
>A gleaming eye looks back at you from the dark abyss, circling you.

I've seen my friend playing that on steam. I'll have to ask him what it's like.

Why does /v/ have such bad taste?

A game is composed at least of a good and bad final states, an objective, certain rules. All /v/ fantasizes about are open world simulators where "you can do anything".

You don't like games. You like toys. Where you don't have to respond to failure. If basketball is a game, a ball is toy, and that's what you like when it comes to "video games". Some grinding here and there so you feel rewarded for "winning" even if it's not a real win because it's impossible to fail grinding.

It was your mentality that made modern MMOs popular, along with f2p shit and the minecraft and early access open world survival clones.

>>254315445
>why does /v/ have taste that differs from mine
>a video game needs a definitive "victory" or "end" to be good in any way

Why? I'd prefer a game to have a definitive loss, but endless gameplay. Why restrict your game to a limited amount of time until you win?

Why not make it so you can keep playing indefinitely until you lose?

Also, what is diversity? Why can't we have some games that are openish world see >>254303408

And then on top of that, have games that you seem to consider the only way a video game can be a video game that has your definitive "story" and "victory" at the end of it?

You're forgetting the part where you can make games from toys.

Setting your own objectives, your own rules, and seeing what others can come up with is part of the appeal of open world. Sure, you can just see it only for what it is, but what you're missing is the potential for what it can be. And if you get bored? You can always make up new rules, new objectives.

Hey, basketball had to come from somewhere. Why not start with a ball?

How did he even play that on Steam

I wanted to have a Fallen London discussion with vee but afraid being called shill so you're my only audience.

It's polished to say the least. You start off being imprisoned inside a prison built within a single massive massive stalactite clung onto the subterranean ceiling. It's been hinted to contain a fleshgait that eats prisoner's candles in their stead. Sorta like jail bribe.in real life.

Sorry, meant to say he played Sunless Sea. He bought it early access apparently.

>>254278781
the problem with that is that if a security guard or what have you comes along and searches you you can get in trouble for it, depending on where you are. best thing to do is find something at the location that can be used as a weapon and then leave it behind

That's news to me
I'll just cautiously wait for the full game then.

well, thanks anyway, I'll check it out

I think I've read that. It was really short, and it was just about some guy walking through the cave, eventually pursued by a creature. Am I right? This was like fifteen years ago, so my memory is a bit fuzzy.
