Wrong.
a "female character" is different from "a character who is female".
If a character is female but doesn't ACT female, then there is no point of them BEING female. They might as well be a robot.
Crying, changing tampons and bending over tables would convey that they are female, but wouldn't develop the story in any sort of satisfactory sense, so that's a null point on your behalf. Good writers can advance the plot while making the character more than just mannequins.
