M2K's training has been 'almost double the length' than usual, and this autist already beats a horse dead with prep.
Are you ready for him to take EVO by storm while Mango fanboys cry and boo in the crowd?
I like Mango, but I still want M2K to win. I remember when he was a fox main getting like 7th place finishes at old ass MLG tourneys back when I used to play Halo.
Do people still hate him because of that fake story on reddit pandering for upvotes?
Alot of casuals probably watched somewat competitive smash for the first time at E3. They got interested in it and started watching the tourney streams(KoC4 capped at like 30k for a grassroots tourney.) The smash doc also helped.
Mango has dominated all the recent major tournies, and he's won evo last year to boot. He's operates on a different level at this point, and unless people have been practicing 24 hours a day I dont see the outcome changing.
Plus, M2K got fucking scraped by a gimmicky yoshi player 3-0 recently, and is completely hopeless against armada. 3rd place tops.
>M2K got fucking scraped by a gimmicky yoshi player 3-0 recently,
M2K won the first set.Plus Asma just has the element of surprise, people haven't perfected wrecking Yoshi yet since who the fuck thought someone would use him?
>Caring about other people who make money playing video games.
Maybe if you people spent time playing games instead of circlejerking e-celeberties, you'd be making money doing what they are doing.
>bases entire potential on the shaky ground of a dumbass egg-shield'r with no triple jump
Amsa clearly just wants to have fun, he's not there to win nor will he ever do so.
Niggas slept on the kid at EVO.
Niggas slept on the kid at MLG
Niggas gonna sleep on him now.
Not even mad, just surprised that people's memory can be this short. Mango is going to take it, like he always does. This motherfucker could not practise for a year, be hungover, and play with winter gloves on and still beat M2K.
This AMSA is a great player but some of /v/ actually believes yoshi doesn't hold him back... AMSA has to rely on tons of gimmicks to compete since its fucking yoshi. Gimmicks againest the top players will get you figured out. Except by M2K becuase that motherfucker can't adapt for shit.
But that only makes it easier to win. Random= a lot of stupid choices must be made, hence you just wait for the stupid choices to be made and then punish them. M2K is harder to beat because he knows the best choice and usually picks them. Except he fucking chokes all the time and that's why he loses.
Nope. Still Mango, even though he doesn't play Falco any more. The guy gets in the habit of practising REALLY hard for a month, wins a sub-national, and gets spanked at a national. Nigga needs to keep his cards to his chest or learn to adapt during the tournaments. You couldn't count the amount of times Mango made that losers bracket comeback, beating the person who sent him there. PP has to do that kind of shit before I can take him seriously. For now, he seems almost gimmicky in his playstyle, in that it takes a fucking MONTH for the metagame to move on without him.
Link has never been good until project m gave him ridiculous buffs. He doesn't even have the potential to be impressive like amsa's yoshi or gimpyfish's bowser. I'm sure there are good PM players though.
Armada and Mango keep going back and forth with each other. I honestly want Armada to take EVO just so he has one. Mango doesn't need two EVOs and MLG.
Plus Princess Peach + Young Link winning EVO would be so good.
Got bodied by a gimmick shit tier novelty player.
It's all over for him.
If you are seriously rooting for Armada because "A Peach player with a trophy would really be something!", then you clearly have been absent for the past 6 fucking years.
He tends to get down on himself if he loses a match or sees something he's not used to and can't handle the crowd cheering against him. He's definitely a lot slower to adapt than any f the other top players.
I don't know who this gaylord is, so clearly he plays a terrible fucking game, so why should I care again?
Sf, marvel, gg, darkstalkers, 2d anime fighters in general. Anything else is trash.
If you're watching anything other than that, if it isn't a random game tournament or a fucking niche game that no fucker players mini tournament, then you're a worthless human being.
>anime fighting games are automatically good
This use to happen to Ken's marth years ago. M2K is just living years in the past of these true competitors and repeating their same mistakes. It's like he has the ultimate learning disability where he can't learn from years of history.
Mango nation is cancer.
OMG I TOLD YOU GUYS DON'T SLEEP ON THE KID.
HE WAS SANDBAGGING HARD GUISE.
Mango is cool but facebook/twitter love to suck his dick.
Smash is the most popular competitive fighting game. We don't really care about you guys or your autism games anymore. Go make a 2D fighting game thread for you + the other 3 people who still care about those static easy mode fighters.
The metagame is has come a long way since Armada's reign. Nowadays only spacies have been coming out on top. So far this year Mango has been beating Armada where it counts while Armada was beating him at less big events. I do hope he comes out on top over Mango just for him, the notoriety of Peach winning in modern times is just a plus.
I don't know if it's fake
If Amsa can beat M2K then he can beat the rest of the top players.
>Buuuuuuuuuuuut nobody knows the Yoshi matchup!
Amsa has been around long enough for people to know that he is a threat and what Yoshi is capable of.
>go to smashboards
/v/ has changed since 2007.
The community needs new blood/a villian. I love mango/armada but the past couple of tournies have been mango vs armada lol. Leffen lacks experience compared to the top5 though. Still he can make top 8 easy.
Ken sucks bro he loses to fucking Mike Haze nowadays.(mid player fox main) He got lucky last year and got some shitter filled pool than even I could have come out of and I suck.
Matchups and mindgames don't mean shit when the person you are facing is on a totally different level. If that was the case Hbox wouldn't be as good as he is since jiggs is shit in the current meta but he still rapes any spacie not named m2k/mango.
I love Zero.Even though he's shit at melee he still mustered enough power to beat /v/'s favorite.
He simply lives to piss this place off.
Yoshi IMO is a pretty good character. Hard to use and definitely has downsides, but if you become a true wizard with egg-throwing, that shit racks damage up and catches people off guard all the time. Add in being heavy, and high-powered smashes, I think he's more than "okay." Amsa proved that he could surprise ppl with Yoshi, and I've been doing that to my friends for years.
People are starting to figure out his yoshi somewat already. I watched the $20 MM west and Amsa had an it was a close set but you started to notice that westballz was adapting to the shitty gimmicks yoshi has. AMSA is an amazing player but yoshi is gonna hold him back sooner or later.
Armada himself completely shits on most of his losing character matchups, with the exception of Hungrybox Puff. At CEO Armada got put into losers by Mango, but at Grand Finals he won like 6-1 against Mango.
He also makes weird choices that stem from his autism. According to what Scar said at KoC4, he'll pick characters that match up best to others statistically, but if that character loses, he makes the connection that that person's character is always going to lose to his character. So he switches to compensate, rather than change tactics or approach differently with the same character.
They don't call him the robot for nothing.
>History will repeat itself every time another random Yoshi player shows up and then everyone has to remember which bedtime story they used to put the last one to sleep. It's a cycle that keeps happening every few years.
Will Ken be there? This is kind of a deal breaker.
Naw evo will be amazing for him. 2/3 sets doesn't allow most people to see/adapt to the yoshi gimmicks. MLG sucked for him becuase winning 3/5 sets is super hard when your character relies on gimmicks. After this though people will train for him and than it will be over.
Not only is Ken shit now, but people beg him to be on commentary because of his legacy when he is a 2/10 commentator. Seriously, fuck Ken. I think he actually kicked Waffles off the mic at KoC.
He says that fox/falco don't really fit his playstyle. M2K doesn't have explosive techskill like hax or Mango. He's very consistent but he can't do crazy fast shit. So he realies on gimps and setups. Marth/Shiek are basically gimp masters and flowcharty as hell so they suit his playstyle.
I saw what he did to scar and enjoy seeing him play again, that's all there is to that story.
I'm bored to tears every time I see a Fox. I pray for Armada to win every time he plays against one of those fags.
He mains Fox who is Fox, Marth who is great against Space Animals and any character over mid weight, and Sheik who is pretty much the reason why so many characters are in low tiers. He doesn't need Falco to get optimum coverage.
Notice though, characters that have weird air characteristics he struggles with. Peach is floaty but has all the junk moves with float cancels and whatever that trick him, and he got railed by Yoshi who is heavy as shit despite his floaty, fucked up jumps and has a bunch of weird exclusive defensive options. Its like his brain can't process things that are too random or unorthodox for him to respond too.
Falco is much less technical than Fox and M2K does have a pretty decent pocket Fox I would probably rank in the top 5. If Hungrybox can have a decent Falco I'm pretty sure M2K can, especially seeing how he considers Falco to be the best character.
At the level he plays falco requires just as much techskill as fox to compete. He just doesn't like how spacies award smart offensive play which he can't do. He's like Armada in that if he loves having an insane punish game. Even his fox is super punish game heavy compared to other foxes.
Give him time, his adaption rate is stupid low to new tech and tricks. He would get raped by Mango on a regular basis back in the day just because Mango would throw out moves that were efficient yet not the most effective. He plays perfect until the point where shit doesn't compute with him and he starts making mistakes.
He's a sociopath if anything. Dude is the nicest person outside of smash than shit talks online and in tourney. Even mango talked about this in CEO. It's all a ruse to mindgame the competition lol.
in a competitive fighting game, the winner cannot change their character if they win
no matter what, letting the winner repick results in the loser being screwed over because their adaptations to the previous character are rendered meaningless
it's insipid and favors the winner unconditionally
So why hasn't anyone else made this yet?
>I appreciate you admitting that
Its not so much admitting as it is a non issue. If the guy can only play Fox and Falco, or only a main and a pocket like Armada and aMSa, you know what you're in for.
The euro scene is kinda full of pussies and they couldn't handle leffen's shit talk which usually amounts to " I'll rekt u m8". The US hates him since he is really tryhard sometimes even in fucking crew battles. No one gives a shit anymore though.
It's not unconditional at all. The winner selects character first, then the loser can pick the character he bests thinks counters that character. It's an advantage for the loser.
Take Armada vs Hungrybox for example. Armada picks Young Link because it counters Jigglypuff, then Hbox picks Fox because it counters Young Link. If Armada picks Peach, Hbox would pick Jiggly, so Armada is essentially locked to an inferior character.
You're not thinking about this like smash, Fox, Falco, Marth, Jiggs and Shiek are all fairly balanced within one another. You only see really solid counter picks on any character weaker than Falcon or Peach.
>tfw Wobblez retired so no more Chain Climbers
>tfw everyone figured out aMsA
>tfw Armada is DOA
>tfw no Captain Falco main to take the goal this yeah
I ain't rooting for Mango nor M2K.
Take any M2K match where he changes character from one top tier to another, simply because it permits him to wipe the opponent's adjustments clean off. Going from Shiek to Marth after WINNING is by no means advantageous to the loser.
You can't blame him though. Falcon is really shitty compared to the rest of the top tier. Peach atleast has good tools and a good recovery. Everyone and their mom has anti-falcon tech.
Style doesn't win you matches. Falcon relies way too much on reads and unless you can read minds you're not winning a major tourney nowadays with Falcon unless it's in the midwest.
Then work on new tech, don't just throw in the towel because everyone else has you figured out and you want to play with the safest character. Also before Armada, everyone had Peach figured out. You just have to be committed enough.
Why shouldn't the player who has mastered several characters have an advantage over a player who hasn't? Also, switching character forces both players to adapt to the new match-up. You might have a better match up but you probably wont play as good because you keep switching.
That's absolutely frivolous; are you saying that someone will theoretically perform better the longer they play a single character throughout a set? I can just as easily say that someone will perform better playing AGAINST a single character throughout a set.
uses gimmicks to suprise people. People already knew yoshi had crazy tech shit before amsa. He was the first motherfucker crazy enough to try it out in nationals and be good at it. Yoshi is a shit character and Amsa is gonna be figured out soon.
Yes, it takes a while for your brain and hands to adjust to tech skill and playstyle. It's true in both cases.
I don't see the problem with picking whichever character you want. The loser gets to counterpick if he wants.
I don't want Mango to win again. His fan base is so shitty and they ride his dick so hard. Armada is kind of boring to watch. I'd prefer if PP won or failing that m2k because he hasn't won anything in ages.
Jiggs for sure. Armada is more of an anomaly than a reflection of the community. Jiggs, while having her flaws, is a monster if used well. And I say well because HBox is a faggot, Mango has a better Jiggs.
It's shit because he gave it up, I think it was Hbox that turned him off of Jiggs. He plays her with straight gimmicks and camping you'd think you're watching Brawl, Mango's was far more offensive and in your face.
>Pink Shinobi vs SilentSpectre on Mute City
as a peach main I am forbidden for ever watching any match involving these two and mute city. the type of destruction that comes about from this combination is both unholy and unethical.
You basically have to use jiggs like that in order to win though in the current meta. Mango pulled out his offensive jiggs at apex and it got booped by M2K's fox. Can't blame Mango for dropping the original brawl character.
because he still has the perception of being an asshole even if he has apologized. people still think he's toxic. reputation matters.
axe finally got a sponsor like two days ago, same team who sponsors chudat. I like their style.
>at one point
>on Peach's best stage
>that is also one of Falcon's worse stages
If SS wasn't an honorable man and used his stage bans they would've never played that stage. I don't think PS's butthole will ever be tight again.
>doesn't know how to avoid getting fsmashed
>Why shouldn't the player who has mastered several characters have an advantage over a player who hasn't?
because that's literally just rewarding someone with extreme autism and dedicated their entire life to a game over someone who is naturally skilled at it.
Germ. But damn, it's been so many years since I heard anything about Germ.
It's like how Taj is the only guy who still plays Mewtwo. He probably has a better Mewtwo than M2K. But Taj does compete from time to time, although he usually doesn't make too big of a splash.
For some reason, I hadn't noticed. Looks like he's still got some of his old swagger. He really is the only person I've ever seen use Link seriously.
Thanks for edumacating me.
>yfw Axe gets to grand finals with Pikachu, goes up 2-0 and wins game 3 as Pichu
>people still think smash is a fighting game
>people still think smash is competitive worthy
>people still think smash takes skill
>people still think wavedashing and other glitches are good game design
How much you want to bet I can kick your ass without use of dash dancing, wavedashing and other glitches?
What I'm saying here is,.the "skills" you learn in other fighting games will still be applied in Smash, with a little bit more movement (depending if you consider changing sides "more movement").
I just remembered, in a recent interview he said that he was only practicing 2 hours a day and Armada 8 hours. If this is a constant truth, he is still practicing less than the other people if he doubles it
Ken is definitely not as good in singles. Still a solid doubles player though.
Surprised he came back to the melee scene to be honest with you, but its cool that he did and hopefully he shakes the rust off and takes his play to higher than it ever was before.
Too bad that is unlikely. He's almost 28 and is not autistic so...
>Leffen finally breaks into the big 5
Can we please just ban this walking douche nozzel from all smash events ever.
I'm losing faith in PP. The impression I get is that he does meditation and workout instead of practicing, but I don't believe this will actually work as a replacement for practice, which is what I get the impression he is doing.
I was in a
twitch chatwith someone who apparently housed Armada at one point while he was here in the states. He said all he wanted to do was play Smash. He'd ask Armada if he wanted to do anything and he'd be like "I don't know" and wouldn't decide. He'd finally just ask him if he wanted to invite his Smash friends over and Armada'd say "okay that's great".
Guy has no love but the game.
I accept your opinion, but I'll tell you why it's wrong:
Hax never managed to get more than 7th in major events.
Axe has a shit tier character. Maybe the player is good, but no amount of mind game will overcome the fact that some characters just have better everything.
Fly Amanita doesn't wobble. It's his weakness.
Lucky is going to SD about 4 times in a set. So no fucking question!
I know Cosmo barely plays any competitive games, but I still think he might be the best Link out there.
>He probably has a better Mewtwo than M2K
M2K's Mewtwo is definitely the superior of the two.
The casuals though to be fair has been increasing dramatically since Smash 4 was announced.
Anybody that joined in mid 2013 is basically a casual that posts prolly 50+ times a day in the Smash 4 section, most likely in either the ridley threads or character predictions.
Just use some memes. Reddit and /v/ has almost the exact same meme culture nowadays, so don't take any meme, take memes that you are sure are limited to /v/ or 4chan. It's actually hard to find some. Perhaps you could mention some popular tripcoders.
this is wobbles.
i probably won't get to do real bracket commentary since they save it for d1+prog. i will probably be relegated to some phase of pools, probably
that sounds doable
I just visited the archive and it says archiving will be down this weekend. Perfect, just perfect. This is one event I'd like to see /v/'s reactions to. Guess I'll just have to stay awake, then <_<
So this is a warning to everyone else too, if you want /v/s reactions, be there, because it'll not be archived.
REPLY TO THIS POST IF YOU ARE IN VEGAS RIGHT NOW OR WILL BE TOMORROW
COME PLAY FRIENDLIES WITH ME AND GET DECIMATED
honestly, depending on how he plays I think Leffen is the one with the best odds *regardless of bracket.* Axe and Amsa both have bad shots at Armada but Leffen has demonstrated he can win that player matchup. If he plays sharp and brutal he might be able to catch Mango off guard, and if he plays cautiously he won't get gimped by M2K. He's demonstrated he can beat PPMD and HBox so that requires a repeat performance.
If Axe matches up against Mango, Hbox, and PPMD he has okay odds but he still has no guarantees against a lower level player pool.
Amsa... I don't think he's *personally* at a level to beat the top 5 for real. He has issues with mixups in neutral and sometimes he becomes too dedicated to his tricks rather than simple play. you see it when he's fishing for parries and the other guy slowly attacks his position to mess up his timing, when he could just WD back into f-smash or d-tilt or something as a basic mixup.
plus he needs to be a bit ballsier with egg-lay, I think, and it would earn him more mileage with his other aerials, force more rolls and dodges, stuff like that. beyond not choking, that's what it will take for him to have a shot, but IDK if he's suddenly going to realize all that by this weekend.
For victory.... i'm one of those bitches who says "it can go either way." if I had to numerate it, currently I'm putting it at odds of something like 50/35/15 with Mango, Armada, PPMD.
personally rooting for Armada (besides Axe)
Anyone knows if anyone gonna be side streaming KOF because the the official schedule gives it little to no time.
>loses interest very easily due to autism.
>As an Autistic
He does it for his waifu and country anon.
Post your face (or reaction) when Leffen wins EVO
Yes. If the player from Losers Finals wins the first set of Grand Finals, they "reset the bracket" and play a second set. You've got to lose two sets to be out of the tournament and both players in GF would've only lost one at that point.
>Made it to Winner's grand finals
>Knocking out M2K with $25,000 pot
You didn't know about this?
ty for contributing
>mfw this has been one of the best smash threads in a really long time
As a pikachu player i'm excited to see Axe do well, he puts in a lot of effort.
I don't understand why some people are like suggesting you to avoid mentioning /v/, why can't you just say shoutout to 4chan's /v/'s smash fans
who are collectively rooting for MK2!
Types like a faggot, plays like a faggot, looks like a fucking faggot. Literally why
Oh no, I'm hyped as fuck for Axe, I just don't think he has a real chance (btw was he in KoC4? howd he do?)
I don't know after watching the documentary and seeing how akward he is and how hard he tries I kinda have a soft spot for m2k in my heart now
I saw him try on singles not too long ago but when he had it above 100% on last stock Hbox lucked out with a ....what's that puff homerun-like move called? and Hbox stood up and made a WHAT UP COME AT ME kinda gesture
People seem to forget that the spacies also have pants on retarded punish games. Leffen/PP show you don't have to go rushdown YOLO like mango with fox/falco to win. Both players have stupidly good punish games for spacie mains.
>mfw in car with BFFs
I'm ready for more stories of M2K making a fuckin' fool of himself, sure.
Wave dashing isn't a glitch, and the glitches that are in the game are rarely used, since it's the low-tier characters that have the most easily executable ones. Also, the game's still fun and technical without them, although I do agree that it wouldn't be as fast-paced.
the mega milk guy is a speedrunner 'sponsored' by fakku, they sent him the shirt and bunch of other free stuff.
lovage is the guy who mentioned 4chan. it was typically internet hate machine bullshit, felt like.
As someone who mains fox I can say that I play him because I like playing him. Before I even knew about tiers or tech I played fox and Falco, ironically those characters are now my mains. Some people play fox because he's good, others play him because they like him. Either way people who bitch about fox probably suck seeing as he isn't even top tier until you get to uppermid-high level play. Marth, Shiek, and Falco are all top tier in mid-low level play so it doesn't matter to you anyway.
Anyone who is even semi-literate in smash and has watched m2k play before knows he was playing like shit. You'd be playing like shit too if people were constantly yelling shit in your ear about how much you suck and that you should go fuck yourself. I don't care what people say but that definitely hinders your performance, especially if you have autism. m2k is infinitely better than both leffen and aMSa,
Players back than had way less tech skill than today. Even scrub foxes in locals have crisp movement nowadays. Ken got better recently but the metagame has changed way too much. He still had problems with good spacie pressure. He could get real good if practiced with actual good players instead of fucking the Crimson Blur and his brother.
There are now no-name players better than what were top level players in ken's time, They had a lot of the mind games, but none of the tech skill or consistency you see today.
And yeah, Ken didn't play for real for a very long time. You can see the rust falling off now, but he's got a long way to go.
Do people even actually like Mango?
I'm not a tourneyfag, so I don't really follow the scene. But I was watching the Twitch stream of Kings of Cali this past weekend on a whim. After the grand finals, they interviewed Armada, then Mango. This is probably due to him being a foreigner, but Armada seemed really humble and respectful. Mango just seemed like an overconfident douche with a huge ego.
I didn't know there was such vehement hatred for the dude on the internet. I should have seen it coming.
Went to a Protomen concert back in highschool and in the hotel that was hosting the concert (it was a 2 day concert) there was a small Smash Bros tourney for like, literally $50 or so.
I don't enter the tourney ($5 entry fee bruh), but sit down to play some casuals. This grumpy pasty motherfucker sits next to me, proceeds to pick Metaknight and absolutely wrecks me. I jokingly suggest that he's pretty good or that I'm really bad (making small talk, banter, human stuff). He pauses the game, looks me directly in the eye and incredulously asks "You don't know who I AM?!"
I thought he was joking so I laughed it off, but he kept the game paused so I hesitantly ask "Uh, no. Should I?"
>awkward silence, I had not heard of him at that point in my life
"M2K? I'm a professional."
I repeat, "Um, ok."
Apparently he was super salty because he'd driven 4 hours to this $50 backwash nobody tourney and was 30 minutes late to register so they didn't let him in. Sorry erratic writing prose im a bit tipsy.
Mango is an overconfident douche with a huge ego. It's like sports, some people like athletes like that, some people don't. The community is split on him.
I like him and that's just classic Mango, but I've liked him for years so I've grown used to it, but I can see why that would be offputting to people.
I agree with you but M2K problem isn't the fact that he isn't better than most players its just that he can't adapt to things and chokes in those moments. Was the heckling that bad too? Fuck Socal than. Than can suck Mango's dick more while PP wins another KoC.
That's not true. There are people on smashboards who hate the guy, I can tell you that much.
I doubt there's any real hatred for him inside the actual competitive community though, as opposed to people whining about competitive players on the internet.
Sometimes upsets happen though in even smash. Most likely M2K will beat Leffen, not denying that.
I should said that Leffen has a chance of beating M2K in evo. M2K started getting over his mental walls this year and finally beat Hbox and Armada in a long time.
I've met the guy and he doesn't actually have his head up his ass like that. Also he gets rides everywhere so there'd be at least one other decent player there for him to play against. If anything, your story should have been about him asking everyone in the venue to play $1 money matches.
Why would I make up such a mediocre story? That shit happened, it's my only experience with the guy and he was admittedly in a shit mood. But he was definitely surprised and pretentious at the fact I didn't know him
They still consider him an east coast player, just like they still consider mango socal
fuck knows why
Also the really bad heckling happened during his match with fiction i think
well he's got aspergers and I assume that story is from when he was younger, I don't find it that weird if being godly at the game got to his head specially if he was in his teens, I mean we've all acted like assholes in that way sometime in our lives now add to that being tourney good and being autistic, no reason to hate him forever...
He seems pretty chill now, hope he's got friends and people friendly towards him on these tourneys
PP doesn't practice conventionally, he merely reads people.
If the guy combined both methods he'd be top tier. The only reason others don't do it is because none of them share his interest in psychology.
>Perhaps you could mention some popular tripcoders.
How can you be such a massive faggot?
Could you say something like: "Trips are for fags!"
>I don't understand why some people are like suggesting you to avoid mentioning /v/,
The heckling still makes part of the smash community look some what bad. Ken talked about how the shit talking was one the big reasons why he quit the early melee scene in the documentary. While modern melee players don't shit talk like back than it's still fucked up that you can be heckled that badly.
