I really enjoy when fighting or combat styles in games like this are more easily accessible in the form of a single button press where I don't have to move my fingers away from the directional sticks. It allows for more fluid movement during combat and prevents janky interruptions.

It might be a thematic decision.

They make a huge deal in the show about how hard it was for Korra to learn airbending, which has a fighting style that primarily includes rapid movement and dodging attacks instead of deflecting them.

It's the opposite of the first series where Aang had trouble learning Earthbending because his instinct was to always dodge attacks.

To be honest a parry system sounds fine to me. Partially because it fits thematically, but more so because it feels more fun to me to be able to block/reflect enemy attacks with proper skill and timing than it does to just dodge them.

Anyone else hate Korra Season 2? Once they jumped the timetree shark it was all over for me.

I mean, I'll watch it because I love the universe, action and artstyle, but the story is nowhere near as satisfying to me as the original series and season 1 of korra.

The Book 2 blurays have some nice audio commentary from the creators. A lot of behind the scenes stuff is revealed.

For example, when Nick ordered 3 more seasons of Korra during season 1, they had to completely rewrite the ending Asami was going to be revealed to be working with Amon. This was going to be rewritten into everyone loses their powers and stays that way, Asami joins the military police with Iroh, and the series ends but because of the 3 more seasons it was rewritten into what we got.

Additionally, Nick wanted a different story focus for season 2. It was Nicks decision that forced them to make a new plot and drop what they were going to do. They originally were going to follow up on the equalists and have Asami be the main villain but Nick wanted a "bigger and broader" villain so we get the Unalaaq and Vaatu stuff because of Nick

During the commentary for the final episode they flat out say "Nick hasn't given us any guidelines for Book 3. We can do whatever we want this time, so we are."

Seriously, I really wish it was based off the The Last Airbender. I dislike the modern setting and the characters. Airebender had a better story and a way better protagonist. It had its faults, but goddamn it would make a better video game. Imagine exploring ancient air bending temples, kicking fire nation ass, and having frequent duels with Zuko, at different points in the story. Flying around on Appa, learning more bending, fighting that one guy with the fuckin laser beam eye on his forehead, getting Zuko on your side and playing as him to fight Azula, with the great music and everything.

Hell, even having QTEs when you meet the faceless demon guy, having to press buttons to not make a face.
