The last one is also something I do whenever I can, just to show them starter NPC's I'm still the same "Anon from the block", just with better gear and longer kill list.
Too bad they swapped Styles for Souls.

I liked it more where you build around a playstyle with a certain Style supporting it, instead of building a folder around a specific Soul and its set of abilities.
Have you tried Grim Dawn?
When spells are casted using a scream, or speaking some ancient language.

Thank god I'm not the only one. Another game I can recommend is Monaco: What's yours is mine but it gets boring a bit and it requires a lot of teamwork. The people playing online are complete dicks so careful with that. The last one that I can think that comes off the top of my head is Dungeon Defenders, but it has a shit ton of DLC .

This is extremely important to me. I'm much more likely to try a difficult fight again and again if there's good music. The example I always come back to is one of my favorite video game songs of all time from Icewind Dale II:

When a game has melee fight that feels heavy.
When you hit something and you hear the 'thunk' and feel the power of the blow.
Shit makes me smile.

Also, good music. Sometimes music I know, sometimes music made for the game.
e.g. The best thing in Watch Dogs is driving a car, fucktons of police after you, and the radio is blasting 'Move On Up'. Holy fuck was it cool.

Interaction between party members. Not the half-assed Bioware party interaction, but the real fucking deal.
Getting along well with a character gives you bonuses when fighting with them, pissing off select characters bites you in the ass later, romances matter and change the plotline instead of being a side thing that's only mentioned a few times. That's the good stuff.

There were multiple games on my mind with that. Sin & Punishment on the N64 did that, although the two characters you played as controlled exactly the same. DMC4 did this. Arkham City did this. Resident Evil: Revelations did it too.

Fucking Terraria. It could use a little bit of a tutorial, but if it was less wiki-dependent, then it could be the closest an indie game can get to being a 10/10

-Collecting things. Bonus points for having the collectables have a bunch of different applications including getting the other collectables.
-Examining everything under different circumstances to see if anything neat happens (good examples of this being the Ace Attorney series and Paper Mario).
-Differing outcomes based on decisions you make, even minor ones.
-The game gradually gives you some kind of points to spend for playing. If you suck you'll get less points but it will feel less like you wasted your time.
-In-game acheivements like in Kirby Air Ride (essentially the same as the last point).

Action battle systems in JRPGs.

Don't get me wrong, I like turn-based battles. But I love systems built on your ability to act on the fly and go cuhrayzee on my opponents far more. It's why I like the Tales series so much. Hell, action systems got me to complete Lightning Returns despite how awful the story was because I kept finding new ways to use the different garb combinations.

Mystic Knight is a fucking game breaker, sometimes literally if you've got a bunch of magic cannons going. Mystic Knight also gets a spell that summons a bunch of pillars of stone up around him to do a lot of damage. Can enchant the weapons of the whole party at once, uses the biggest most badass shields, spells fire off from enchanted shields on a perfect block, got some cool shit.
I had Monster Hunter in mind. Anyone who says one weapon is inherently better than another is an elitist douchenozzle.
>protagonist's favored element is NOT fire

So fucking sick of it always being fire. Golden Sun's protagonist has earth affinity. Any that have ice affinity? Ice is my favorite.
Nigger, for the former: Ninja Gaiden 2's Obliteration Technique system, some of Nero's Devil Buster moves in DMC4 (the ones against the bosses pretty much), and forming Unite Morphs in W101 can lead to QTEs. There's also points in the Batman: Arkham games where it's all cinematic and you have to just use a counter attack at the right time.

For the latter: W101, Bayonetta (for the most part), Vanquish, MGR, and RE4 all use QTEs pretty well I'd say.

Thank you.

Platinum Games and Hideki Kamiya seem to love this trope.

There's the helmet thing in Viewtiful Joe, that thing where Bayonetta powers up in her game, Unlimited Form in W101, etc.

I thought Sam's helmet thing in MGR was badass as hell too.
The first 3 happen in Sonic and the Black Knight.
The Black Knight isn't the final boss, the girl Sonic travels with until that point is and after that point you unlock 3 new characters and a weapon-crafting system out of nowhere. Then you have to go through a bunch more levels until you can fight the real final boss.

Man, if only S&tBK had smoother controls, it would've been a great game. Everything else was there.
There still hasn't been another character action game aside from DMC4 with a dedicated grapple character.

They can really get in-depth with that shit too.

aw yeah
I am the biggest slut for character customization. Especially when you have to craft armour in games like MonHun and you wear the skin of whatever you just fucked up. But its also cool if the clothes are just aesthetic and you have a good selelction of shit to pick from. I give God Eater props for this because its one of the only games I've played where the male PC had customization options on par with if not BETTER than the female PC
Not that anon but I'm 2 hours in.

Base/town building of some degree. Not the RTS variety, more like the Anno/tropico/etc variety. More of a sidegame within the game. BoF fairy villages, for example. My Life as King would be a full game like that.

The entire Forest segment with Dante is a callback to DMC1 as well, I thought that was pretty cool despite the game being rushed.
I had a good amount of fun with Bomberman 64 despite it's controls feeling clunky to me, but when the credits showed the crazy shit like using some kind of timing to bounce bombs of different sizes so you could reach higher platforms and shit I was fucking pissed ( I couldn't comprehend what I had seen and failed in reenact it. Sold it without ever trying again).

Plus I read online that there's a costume that can only be unlocked by getting all the gold things within a certain amount of hours. Fuck you, it should be enough just to get them, this isn't the kind of game you shove a time limit into.
