He looked cool as Plisken, but nothing will beat classic Snake.
I agree, MGS4 young snake a shit.
So people don't call him a hack who cobbles together ideas from other media?
I mean, I believe that he's not "based on" the character in the sense that anything other than general style and badassery is supposed to be in common, but to claim there's no connection is full retard.
it looks just like MGS2 snake, but HD and more realistic. that's how he would look if it wasn't for accelerated aging.
>dem fish lips
TTS snake looks awful, shit remake as well.
his name came from plissken, but his face/body were based on christopher walken and jean-claude van damme.
still, he has all the same mannerisms and shit, like repeating everything that's said to him.
pic related is best snake.
Snake is one goofy looking feller in Twin Snakes
It's one of their secret black projects
the substance model looked better somehow, not sure how they fucked it up.
twin snakes isn't that bad by itself really, but its dog shit compared to MGS1.
Consider the following. You're writing a game set in a western setting. Why the fuck wouldn't you write the dialogues in english and then translate them? This shit comes close to anime that are set outside of japan but still don't give a fuck about that. And I mean even god damn Gundam, something made 35 years ago did a better job than the average recent anime.
>people still parroting this shit
It's better in almost every conceivable way.
if it's any consolation, TTS was my first MGS since i grew up playing nintendo consoles.
i liked it, but after getting into the series and playing MGS1 a few years ago, i realized what a terrible remake it was.
try playing it again anon, if you haven't already. if you can look past the dated graphics you might be able to appreciate what a great game it is.
>gameplay ruined by mgs2 updates
>"hurrr you can shoot in first person!!! ocelot fight ruined!"
Just don't fucking use it, it's not necessary.
VA was a little worse, but not bad. The cutscene direction was sillier, but it's not like MGS1 was exactly grounded in the first place. The soundtrack is actually better in some places, in my opinion. The lack of Duel and Evasion is disappointing though
>having an elitist attitude towards rising even though MGS4's entire focus was on technology making humans in warfare essentially outdated
Yeah, that sounds like a metal gear fan alright.
The series was FOUNDED on goddamn cuhrazy. The closest the series came to normal was MGS3, and that featured ghosts, a guy who could shoot lightning jus' cus' and ended with a big dumb fightwith a big dumb tank.
have you played MGS4 recently?
that scene where Raiden's cyborg ninja abilities are revealed is extremely CUHRAYZEE, and it doesn't even feel out of place.
If anything Rising toned Raiden down just a notch.
I don't have any problems with the themes brought up between either of the games, it's the CURAHZZY cutscene direction that I don't agree with. It was silly in TTS and it's silly in Rising. It doesn't fit well with the way the rest of the cutscenes are done in the series.
Why you started talking about something totally unrelated, I can't be sure of. Are you alright?
I do it to women because it makes them believe I'm listening when really I'm trolling 4chan on my phone and only tuning in every 45 seconds to find a sentence to repeat...works ok.
>So people don't call him a hack who cobbles together ideas from other media?
why would people call him a hack for that? Quentin Tarantino does that all the time. Kojima is basically the QT of video games.
>Missing the point
What point? I seriously don't know what you're trying to prove. All I'm saying is the TTS had over the top cutscenes that weren't in line with the rest of the series. They feel goofy and out of place. Ridiculous things like Snake back flipping onto a missile only to jump off of it and fire a missile from a stinger belong in crazy action games not MG.
So tell me, what does MGS4 have to do with any of this?
I'm sure as hell not reading the entire thread, but a quick ctrl + f of ke1y words and phrases tells me no one's said it yet (unless this is some new /v/ meta where everyone pointedly refrains from posting an actual answer).
The mullet was designed to show off the engine in demos, must have been back before people knew about Raiden, too. It was basically just Kojima shouting TECHNOLOGY.
13 years later and the game still looks fucking amazing.
he only cut his hair so he wouldn't be mistaken for liquid.
>I have to infiltrate this secret base
>I look identical to the leader of the operation
>oh, no! Better change my appearance so people there don't mistake me for him
Snake's not very smart is he
>has an IQ of 180 and fluent in 6 languages
>tricked by a pair of sunglasses
I think I said this in another thread before, but anon pointed out a few lines that imply some kind of visual link.
If not, my theory is Liquid is doing it to trick the player. Meta as fuck, yo.
its his most recurring design. i'd love to see it in HD though, see >>249033214
pretty sure it's just the lighting, but pliskin was originally going to be blonde too.
>DID YOU LIKE MY SUNGLASSES?
Young MGS4 snake is far hotter though.
The eyes are off with MGS4, but that might be the shadow from the bandana. He definitely looks a bit chubbier in my opinion. What's the middle one from? Looks the closest to the codec.
>MGS5 coming out soon(ish)
>Played all the games except 4 because tfw no PS3, although a pretty much know what happens
>decide fuck it, im going to watch the entire full-length 7 hour cutscene movie tonight
how fucked am I?
I think the final boss was the only thing that wasn't spoiled for me. I knew what it was, but not exactly how goddamn cool it was
Also the only other cool boss fight, I had heard it mentioned before, but I thought it happened
at the end of MGS2.
I think we can all agree who the best Snake is.
CGI Snake is the closest to mgs1 snake
MGS4 Snake is the handsomest
Twin Snake, Snake is the retarded cousin
You can't see people through codec until mgs4, the game just forgets that or breaks the fourth wall.
Even in mgs3 this happens.
MGS is so confusing to an outsider who hasn't played it. Isn't big boss just snake after he beats his mentor who was called the boss? Or ones a clone or some shit, how can they not be identical if ones a clone of the other though
Man did he sound stupid while saying it.
I think they have the technology for seeing what Snake does, and I think he can see them as well. Otherwise shit like Natasha wouldn't make much sense. Also they definitely have that technology by the time MGS2 happens.
Daily reminder that the english version of mgs2 was botched by a bipolar japanese woman who is now blacklisted by all japanese companies for deliberately causing shit, who is on record saying she hates kojima and american movies. she's also a sjw and feminist
That's a whole 'moral of the story' element in MGS1, how your genes don't define who you are going to be.
Solid Snake was cloned from Big Boss who once went by the codename Naked Snake. Big Boss basically become the greatest soldier ever so they cloned him three times. Then he went off and evil'd out by founding his own soldier nation because he loved war so much. Eventually Solid Snake beat him, and then some whack shit went down with his clone brother.
The original Snake was Naked Snake. Naked Snake kills his mentor The Boss so he gets named Big Boss. Solid Snake is a clone of Big Boss, but not a direct clone. He has a fraternal twin brother, Liquid Snake. Solid Snake and Liquid Snake express Big Boss' genes in different ways, with Solid expressing dominant genes and Liquid expressing recessive. They're not true 100% clones of Big Boss. Solid and Big Boss looks alike when they're young, but look very different as they age, much like what might happen with a father and son. The only true 1:1 clone of Big Boss is Solidus Snake.
That's nice and all but what were the most outrageous things she did, translation wise? I thought it was perfectly fine. As for MGS1, I liked both the Japanese and English scripts. Only the former felt like one my Japanese animes, the latter like a very kickass 90's movie.
in terms of writing so far mgs1 was my favorite. mgs2's ending was really cool though
just started playing them a few months ago, beat 1, started playing 2, went on a hiatus for 2 months after getting the BDU, beat it last week and am on 3 now, right after volgin kills granin
>Spanish Snake sounds like a spanish Sean Connery if he was hispanic.
>That's nice and all but what were the most outrageous things she did, translation wise? I thought it was perfectly fine. As for MGS1, I liked both the Japanese and English scripts. Only the former felt like one my Japanese animes, the latter like a very kickass 90's movie.
lel most of the script was boderline incoherent
Because the translation sucked. There's so much lost in translation. Ryan Patton made a huge deal about that when asked about it.
And like I said, that crazy woman is on record saying she hates MGS2, Kojima and american action movies so she did her best to sabotage the translation.
Her name is Agness Kaku, she is currently doing some SJW crusade against some white knight nerd she ripped off until he stopped giving her money.
The interview was for hardcoregaming 101 but was taken offline, because she threw a fit when people pointed out that she should never translate a game again if she deliberately does a poor job because she hates the game designer or his hobbies.
I'm aware she's the devil, but we're not talking about her, neither do we need to shift the topic on her, we're talking about MGS2's translation. What went wrong with it?
You mean you've seen them NAKED?
I don't get it either. I DO agree that the voice acting was worse, but it looked better and played better than the original. The HIND D and Ocelot fights suffered because they became easier with the different gameplay, but i still enjoyed it immensely. I don't know why people keep shitting on it, i enjoyed it.
That was a fucked up delivery on Flynn's part (probably because he didn't get much direction there), the line is perfectly fine. Maybe it could've been better if they went "We've managed not to drown.", but it's not anything worth fighting about. What did the Japanese line say?
clint eastwood's son would make a good snake
I like this idea. Makes sense of the over the top moments in the Twin Snakes cutscenes.
>Single handedly taking out a tank? That's crazy! You're insane
>You're the toughest, craziest, most hardcore badass on the planet. YOU'RE...THE SHIT!
It was really dependant on the Geforce cards of that time, so that any different brand got different random glitches. Today it's mostly fine if you're going nvidia, but there's a bug when you switch the model detail beyond level 2.
>He looks a shit load like hayter
Hayter looks like a young sutherland.
dominant genes are not good or bad or "dominant" in any other sense other that they are expressed when only one gene is present. recessive genes need both genes to be recessive in order to be expressed. Any trait expresses by genes would only be good or bad when given context, and it would always be subjective.
You know who else does?
The dude that presented the world premiere trailer for TPP at the VGAs
and to add even more, if there was a set of like 16 genes they were looking at in BB's DNA that they were calling the "soldier genes" the odds of them all being "superior" and either all recessive or all dominant is ridiculous, the superior ones would be a mixture. so just making one all dominant and one all recessive is stupid as shit.
Kojima just lifted that off the movie Twins with Arnold Scharzeneggar and Danny Devito, its the exact same fucking plot
Karl Urban is Snake, Huge Jacked Man is Big Boss and Sean Bean is Liquid and Cate Blandshit is The Boss for me.
>yfw Kojima wanted Hayter to be a clone of Sutherland
IT ALL MAKES SENSE NOW
He's dead enough to be Liquid and that's all I need
>hero of beating up old slavs in a jungle
I know it's coming but it still gets me
It's actually a nod to Escape from New York where the protag does the same thing.
>The presence of Lee Van Cleef on the set of Escape from New York (1981) inspired Kurt to talk in a raspy voice similar to Clint Eastwood's from the Man With No Name trilogy.
>soul less voice acting, most notably Liquid/Miller and Gray
as for the cuhrazy it really does seem out of place when it happens on every cutscene, not just one or 2 special moments.
Michael Fassbender as Solid Snake.
No, MGS2 was batshit due to 2deep4you shit.
He's just some /r9k/ faggot that's butthurt that he found out a woman translated a video game. Yes, she was in the wrong for shittalking Kojima. But she had literally no help from Konami in terms of notes and designs.
While, the dude that did MGS1 got everything. He's also got problems with Kojima and specifically Scott Dolph.
That's awesome. That's Ocelot/Old Snake telling young Snake to be more gravelly
We watched the Stargate movie for a film class I did once (don't ask) and I blurted out that the scientist guy looked like Otacon, and then the seminar leader went 'yeah, you're right! And the other guy is being played by Kurt Russell!'
Makes sense, but it's still pretty bad. I'm trying to think of some really shitty ones, but Blaustein really went over that script with a fine tooth comb to eliminate any awkward lines.
Really shows how much better it sounds when you let the guy work, instead of having some cunt like Scott Dolph hover around and ass kiss to Kojima telling him they're "butchering his work."
Source is from podcast interview they did with Blaustein. It's on Youtube somewhere.
