Star Citizen launches it's Dogfighting Module called Arena Commander on Thursday night.
You guys hyped as fuck or what? Or are you still playing that next gen meme simulator watch_doge? fucking pathetic, lol.
Built my 3,500 dollarydoo pc just for this game.
Oh wow. They really stopped giving a shit where they grabbed these things from.
Is /scg/ really this bad?
no, usually its much worse. atleast this is very simple shitposting that you can easily recognize.
the real /scg/ is more nuanced, but after being there awhile you realize that theres no such thing as a unique post, theyre all very subtly changed iterations of the same shitposts.
however, the built up blueballsed hype of star citizen and the pending release of the DFM in 2 weeks has prompted everyone to go stir crazy. By everyone I mean vederation.
>the pending release of the DFM in 2 weeks
Chris Roberts is a master capitalist and a true American hero.
Funposting aside; paying for the game now just gets you a discount and a ship.
Fuck star citizen and its raving fan boys. Who after shelling out over $5000 shekels for a pretty ship that is only real in concept art have to defend their investment.
The game isn't coming out this niggas are figuring out how to make releases to keep you idiots donating money while they throw you a bone till you forget about it and they can walk away with their 42+ million.
COOL HELMET FLIPS.
Holy smokes I haven't been in a Star Citizen thread in weeks but the last one I was in we all seemed pretty excited. What happened? And I mean that as in like did something development-wise happen? What's with all the shekelspeak, I thought we wanted this game to be good
The thread was linked to /vg/. That's where all the shitposting is coming from.
I mean, on top of the regular /v/ shitposting.
Elite: Dangerous has "realistic" lasers and Newtonian physics. But you can still see the laser beam paths from any direction. No game or movie will ever get this right, will they?
Wait a second.
Are you seriously damning an alpha as horrible because of bugs?
Nigga you know what that word means?
What the fuck is it with people and getting this upset about bugs anyway?
A video game thats in alpha.
Also, fucking why?
Why is it that bad if a game has some bugs anyway, unrelated to the one at hand? I've never understood this in any game.
There is no hard release date.
If there is, its probably wrong.
In alpha stage its pretty normal though to have bugs though in any game.
>inb4 BUT ITS IN ALPHA/BETA image
>A video game thats in alpha.
WOOOOW back to the excuses huh anon?
What will it be when it's finally released?
"t-they'll patch it soon"
Dota 2 has been gold for years now and it's still buggy as it was in the alpha
>When's the release date for full game again?
Probably late 2015/Early 2016
Arena Commander - which comes out on the 29th - is an in-universe functional game with an offline component. The 'competitive' part of the game.
>What will it be when it's finally released?
Less buggy, because its not an alpha.
No really, do you know what alpha means, nigger?
If they call something an alpha its not a finished product. If they call it an alpha its specifically because its in a bug ridden incomplete stage before theyve got it fully made and polished.
>this game is P2W because you can buy ships.
>Ships arent progression in this game. Equipment is.
>but you can buy equipment on voyager direct
>Thats the shittiest lowest tier of equipment
>but you can buy credits
>the best stuff in VD, the shittiest lowest tier, costs ten bucks.
>more expensive means more p2w!
>No, because fewer people will be able to do so, meaning there will be less P2W in the actual gameplay compared to it being easier
>Y-youre just a drone!!! Youre just making excuses!! shill!!
Here's a challenge /v/.
Pick the least terrible ship.
>They're all terrible
Yes, I said pick the least terrible.
>someone actually defending p2w mechanics
>You can buy ships
>You can buy equipment
>You can buy in game currency
>This game received 42 million and counting
>Still needs ripoff autists
Did EA work on this or something?
>because muh 40 doll0rs to chris "rock hard" roberts meens i deserve a pre-pre-alhpa from chris "ice" roberts hard drive bug free with perfections 10/10 ign
>muh 55 gorrilion crowdbux meens perfection onlee ever, or else ill demand a refund from chris "stone cold" roberts
No because Elite Dangerous is annihillating your 43 million dollar non-to scale, cutscenes to get into planets, universe literally the size of one STAR in ED piece of kikefest.
>You can buy ships
But I already said anon. Thats wrong. Buying ships is not pay to win, because ships are tiered, no ship is better than any other ship, thats not how shits balanced.
>You can buy equipment
You can buy credits on a monthly cap which can buy equipment.
But the shittiest low tier equipment costs ten bucks to buy, though.
There will thusly be very little pay to win in the game because its so goddamn expensive to actually do so. And would also require saving up multiple months of purchased credits.
>t-thats just EXCUSES!!
>You're just a SHILL!!
>You're just a drone!!
>Theyre just LYING! Ha!!! I win!!
Theyre the best team, but not really the best ship. Id still love to see their ship in game though.
Its almost entirely garunteed that more than one ship will end up in the game from this, and the team said they intended to do more work on it even if they lost, so hopefully it might end up in.
Just to make sure no one else gets baited...
This is a /scg/ bait tactic that is utilized by some of the original and most depraved shitpostes to stir drama when there is actually -no- drama.
Do not be baited, ignore it,.
Eurphoria Ltd. is recruiting pilots!
- You have to be over 18 years of age
- Be able to talk and listen on TeamSpeak3
- Spend at least 30 hours a week in the game
- Be an atheist
And most importantly:
- Have the desire to be the best at the game at every cost
We do not tolerate mediocrity or believing in urban myths about game mechanics instead of clining to tested and proven facts.
I voted for 4 Horsemen in the save round. I think their ship has the best production values and overall it looks the most finished-- it also looks like it'd be a helluva ship to use in the game.
Shimpan's ship is impressive too, although I liked 4 Horsemen's better. I was not very impressed with Tallon, and it looked like he was very far away from actually getting his ship finished. It has a cool silhouette, but I don't think he ever stood much of a chance working by himself.
I HAVE A HUGE PET PEEVE WITH THIS GAME
The cockpits provide no rear view visibility. With cargo type aircraft not really made for fighting is fine but the scythe, hornet and the avenger are terrible when it comes to looking around behind.
There is reason why bubble canopies became the norm today, because being able to track your opponent is everything. Chris roberts says he is passionate about aviation and flight sims but he doesn't give these fighter spacecraft the visibility they need? Fuck man. I mean, I wouldn't mind if it wasn't a bubble canopy but you need to be able to see behind you.
>oh neat, a star citizen thread
Well, at least it isn't Elite Dangerous shilling.
Nah, the shirt also fucks it up once you notice it. If the overcoat was closed and it was taken in black and white, itd be a fine costume, perfectly acceptable for non serious novelty uses like a pretend 20s gangster group, and if he was wearing a plain collared shir tbuttoned all the way up it might be better too.
The neckbeard is fucked though, of course.
Glass is storng as hull material in this game because they dont want that to be a problem. Space magic, deal with it.gif, etc.
>tar Wars truly destroyed space battles
they aren't lasers. it's Ionized plasma. think Covenant weapons from Halo
also, Elite: Dangerous looks cooler than this, even though I have no idea what its about aside from flying a spess ship
I'm still interested and I'm probably going to get it. Just not going to bother checking these threads to see the same old shitposts, and fans trying to warn people about the shitposts.
I'm pretty sure Roberts said lasers and plasma are two different things in Star Citizen. Mining lasers for example will be hitscan while plasma cannons will be projectiles.
Man, I can't wait for both.
It's a great time for Space sims.
>Bigger more mechanically complex game with more sophisticated graphics and fully modeled and animated ship interiors is taking longer than a more spartan, procedural game with simple graphic design
>gee whiz scoobs, what a mystery!
Yaw is nerfed and roll is bound to the stick by default last I heard, so people are pulling immelmans if that might give you an idea.
It will never be as good as the being able to actually see if his nose is pointed at you when is on your six. The problem is knowing if he is behind me, it's being to track him and the nose of his craft.
It's just another space sim. Ignore people who talk about ED in Star Citizen threads. ED has its own general, and fans are more than capable of making their own threads.
Kinda makes you wonder though. If ED is so great and functional, why are fans of it always shitposting in Star Citizen threads and not playing it?
>ED has its own general
AHahaha, you're not serious are you? The only /edg/'s were made by the shill, and when hes not around the threads don't exist. The vast majority of actual ED dscussion is done in /scg/.
Because they can't afford the $100 that it costs to buy their way into the E:D alpha, but they still feel the need to defend and justify pre-purchasing the finished game that won't be out for a long ass time.
I paid $60 for my Star Citizen pledge and I will get to play the AC alpha this month. The only way you will be playing Elite Dangerous right now is if you emptied your pockets big time. How does it feel knowing that E:D needed your money a lot more badly than Star Citizen, and yet they put a giant paywall between you and the alpha?
bigger world=/=bigger game if thats what you're saying. By bigger he didnt mean physically.
Its a fact that its going to have more simple mechanics, less content, and its already confirmed for less grafics.
They plan some (priced) expansions to expand its scope.
Its not a bad thing, anon. The game has potential to be good being more focused and more built around its own unique systems such as the full 1:1 milky way and such.
Its going to be shit if it tries to be the same exact kind of space sim as star citizen but with less mechanics and content+an Elite skin, so it shouldnt be.
No, anon, they just want to stir the pot. This is /scg/ we're talking about.
Indeed im aware thats exactly what you're doing too.
The best team won. Next week is going to be a heartbreak between Shard and IXM. I want to see what each have done with the interior. 3faggos will probably lose out despite a promising interior.
The Redeemer has so much utility it's almost nuts. There are so many different roles it could potentially fill if you are playing with friends, my mind goes wild. It could be used as a drop ship, but it's also designed for keeping a crew comfy during long trips, and it has enough ordinance to put up a good fight in combat. I would go nuts with that thing.
>heartbreak between Shard and IXM
Shard all the way.
What's fucking pathetic is not playing a variety of games you weak ass casualfag. I have pre-ordered Star Citizen though and very much looking forward to playing it on my 8k rig.
Probably a new everything.
Ideally we'll see Shard and IXM and 4horsemen as the top 3. They'll probably all be in the game at some point.
RIP in peace Skyguard and Tri-Tri. Tallon has such a neat concept but lost my respect after that horrible fucking presentation on top of no progress.
I honestly feel bad for anyone who donated over 30 bucks. I donated that, and even I'm apprehensive about how the game is going to turn out. I can't imagine the amount of damage control people who spent a grand on a fucking ship are running.
Selling better ships to the highest bidder is disgusting, I honestly would have preferred Roberts bringing in a publisher who would at least set him some fucking deadlines. I expect I'll play the dogfight alpha for all of about 5 minutes, until everyone realises the game has no real combat depth.
>Ideally we'll see Shard and IXM and 4horsemen as the top 3
Mine would be:
1st - Shard
2nd - 4HOERS
3rd - Shimapan
I'm just not fond of IXM's ship; nothing in it looks interesting or stands out but I admit they have put a fair amount of effort into it.
>RIP in peace Skyguard and Tri-Tri
Tri-Tri should have gotten the save vote. Fuck 3Dingoes.
How many people are actually spending that much though? It's not like the average user is going out and buying an Idris. I've spent $80 on this game and I don't think that's a whole lot (I bought Dark Souls 2 CE for $110), although I know there are some people out there who own actual chunks of old fighter jets that they are wiring up to play the game in. Those are the people who are spending thousands of dollars on this game, not people like me whose computers cost less than $2000 and own shitty joysticks.
Id bet you good money the vast majority of players have only spent 30-60 bucks. The average for spending over half a million players is around a hundred bucks each.
I think the competition has about 6 good ships.
I'd love to see these all in the game at some point. Tallon fucked up HARD at the end but I did like the concept. Cyro would be a great gameplay style but someone else needs to design the ship.
>literately just bought parts for a $3,500 PC
>doesnt include monitors, mouse, keyboard, SSD, or HDD as I already own the ones I want
First time buying a nice mobo, 3 gpus, a soundcard, and an ungodly xbox hueg server size full tower
Games like this really make all their money on whales, who are utter idiots who spend thousands of dollars on games they'll play for a week. They're what the whole F2P industry is built around, people who buy double XP for a decade and then use it for 5 minutes.
I felt bad for Tallon just because I've had those weeks where I've had to turn in an art project for a class, and I hadn't done jack shit on it during the week for whatever reason, so I have to throw something together last minute to look like I actually worked on something. However, this was like showing up to a final exam without having studied, because there was no save pool this time. It just felt like he kind of gave up-- I don't know what the hell he was thinking importing his model into the engine as a sunken ship, because that completely undermined the purpose of the assignment.
You know, for the money you overpaid (2.5k), you could have bought a new PC in 18 months that outperforms your current one twice over. Do you not understand diminishing returns? Spend less, often, not a lot at once. Processing power increases at an exponential rate.
You built an overpriced PC for a shitty game that isn't even capable of being what it claims to be, whereas another game with a much smaller budget is much more than SC could ever be without even trying?
Nah not really, it makes running 3 large monitors at 144 much easier, with room to expand if I choose to.
>you could have bought a new PC in 18 months
I still can build a new PC in 18 months. I'm not poor. This PC alone wasn't even a months pay.
>Spend less, often, not a lot at once.
Did that for years, can't be assed anymore. My current PC was built three years ago and still runs everything fine.
>that isn't even capable of being what it claims to be
>Isnt out yet
>development of the big persistent universe not even in full swing yet
>"ITS IMPOSSIBLE, THEY CANT EVER DO IT!"
>tfw I am mostly just looking forward to Squadron 42, and I am going to be mucking around in the PU with my bros as a means of passing time between mission disks
I am pretty sure I will end up getting really into the PU, however I find it wacky just how much some people are putting into this game. Not that I'm complaining, since a bigger budget means a lower chance of the game sucking, but I don't know what goes through someone's head when they decide to spend thousands of dollars on a game that's not even out yet.
It get's better, though-- I recently saw a thread in the RSI hardware forum that got someone banned, because they were showing off the office that they had built for gold farming in SC and were trying to recruit forum members into some kind of pyramid scam. I shit you not, there are people already setting up businesses to farm gold in a game *that is not even out.* There are so many things stupid about that, but apparently even the scammers are idort whales.
> but it doesn't even claim to try to do what you think it is trying to do
>The universe will be very small and compact.
But thats, again, wrong. It wont be nearly as large as 1:1, but it intends to be pretty fucking large.
And cryengine limitations are why theyre gutting the damn thing when they need to. Such as the whole double precision thing.
I dont think you actually know what "limitations" you think you're talking about.
>the game will still have sound in space because otherwise it would be boring
>but it intends to be pretty fucking large.
But it doesn't. It has been said multiple times that it isn't trying to be large. It will just be a bunch of tiny ass sectors you can warp between, and those sectors aren't going to be very large. Elite's universe will be at least twice the size of SC's.
>microtransactions for a game that isn't playable
No, the hanger module or whatever is not a playable game.
btw, did the bullshit of instanced combat get changed? Might have to pirate it if so.
Anyway, for a good space sim, try Evochron Mercenary. Though the combat is really hard and complicated.
No, it hasnt you retard.
> It will just be a bunch of tiny ass sectors you can warp between
No, thats not what "instancing" means you dumb mother fucker.
>Elite's universe will be at least twice the size of SC's.
Elites universe is a 1:1 procedural milky way, jesus fuck, SC isnt even going to approach it.
>No, thats not what "instancing" means you dumb mother fucker.
Yes, that is called instancing. I don't understand how this refutes my point.
>Elites universe is a 1:1 procedural milky way, jesus fuck, SC isnt even going to approach it.
how can you dog fight in space? dogs cant breathe in space also its too cold there
>what combat would be like if ECM was never invented
One key difference is that SC's universe is being crafted by hand, while ED's is procedurally generated. The different planets in ED are basically the space sim equivalent to the faces in Oblivion.
The choice is between thousands of planets that eventually start to feel samey because they were all created from the same algorithm, or a game that has a much smaller number of planets (that will grow over time), but they are all designed by developers. And that is not even taking into consideration the planets that you will actually be able to land on-- that is something that is an afterthought for E:D, whereas with SC they already have an entire FPS studio working on the planetside mode.
>btw, did the bullshit of instanced combat get changed?
It never meant what you thought it meant you stupid fucker.
in fact, let me explain this shit.
Instancing does not mean what you think it means here.
The way its going to work is as so:
A system has a definitive layout. An "instance" is just a cell thats created and deleted on the fly. Actions and alterations are still preserved. A system is a fully laid out seamless thing. Theyve stated explicitly multiple times that if you want, you can seamlessly travel through the entire system. It will stream in instances seamlessly. This has, again, been stated fucking explicitly.
When you drop out of cruise into an instance, that means an instance is generated wherever the fuck you happen to be, which is not limited to a few preset destinations, again, confirmed. Its anyplace in the full size of the system, but instead of storing a fuck ton of level cells, they just make one where they need it based on the stored data about it, since thats all they need given that most of it is empty blackness because space.
>Bubble canopies on spaceships
Enjoy getting wiped out my micrometeorites and weak ass bullets and shrapnel
Panoramic display cockpits make more sense
Windows on a fucking spaceship make no sense. Instead, small cameras positioned around the outside of the hull should create a visual projection of a 3D, 360 degree screen.
The only reason to have windows at all would be if your shield technology is amazing, which means that the hull would be like paper to any enemy fire anyway.
That's the big thing-- the polymer on those windshields is probably like 3 inches thick, and as such it would be a pain in the ass to mould into rounded shapes-- not to mention that if a pane of material shatters, you can replace it with a sheet of metal. If that rounded bubble on your fighter breaks, what is going to replace it to keep you from getting sucked into a vacuum out of a tiny hole?
Using cameras would suck because cameras have a limited field of view. We still put rear-view mirrors in cars that have rear-view cameras. Also, humans like windows. Burglars can break them, but we still put them all over our houses.
Or skip out the projector and beam the visual data directly to the pilots eyes
Well they wouldn't need a unarmored window then would they?
You could probably do all that with a slightly improved future Oculus Rift
i can see some people will be disappointed because they believed in the hype of every promise will happen with racing and all the other bullshit.
but the basic concepts i am looking for are the backbone and that will be accomplished
>with racing and all the other bullshit.
What the fuck?
Anon, just because the promised something doesnt mean theyre going to deeply and extensively flesh it out and craft enormous amounts of content for it. I havnt seem them promise a thing that sounds unrealistic or unfeasible, niggas just need to cool the fuck down and realize they might just only be talking about what they actually fucking said.
It's already happening
So I am looking to get into Star Citizen, I have $250-$300 that I can spend on the game, (obviously the less I have to spend the better for me to be buying other things). I am looking at the ships and I don't know which one to get. I am thinking of getting either one of or both the freelancer and the 315p but all in all I think I feel like I should ask the opinion of you people who know more about the game than me. Any help is kind.
My main goal when the game is released is exploration, probably solo unless I pay for my friends (which is a possibility for a holiday gift) but I do like ships that actually look nice and have walking room on the inside.
Constellation is an all round ship you could fit for exploration.
315p is a supposed exploration varient of the 300 series.
Aurora is the cheapest and you can get everything in game.
the freelancer has an actual exploration dedicated variant coming so you would probably do best to get that and upgrade to the variant when it comes around, if you dont want to just get an aurora and get it in game.
So he can play non-violent PS2 games ?
Nords justice is so harsh, it condemns you to be a pleb.
Hyped? naah. I'll just enjoy my supperior game.
Its a semetic private school anon, not a video game.
I've never forced myself to play eve for more than a month. So when ever I get the urge to play it, I just make a new account because it is so much cheaper than renewing my old one. In total I've made like 6 accounts I think. I know I'm no hardcore eve player but I like it and I have fun and that's what matters.
The bits with AEGIS written on it plus the pliers.
Sorry man, I'm playing it on a shitty 4 year old laptop. Also, just barely lived, pic related.
