I've played Destiny 1 a good bit (I quit before the light cap was bumped to 350). While I did like the game, it was extremely unsatisfying to play.
The FOV is garbage and 30FPS is literally unplayable on an FPS.
I was excited for Destiny 2 because I knew a PC port would solve these issues. Something told me to wait and see before I preordered though. Now that I know that an MMO is going to have a later release date on PC, I can safely say that I am never going to purchase it. I am not going to pay $60 to play a game that everybody else has had, just to get common sense settings.
The game just looks like more content. The engine looks exactly the same, and frankly I have seen nothing they couldn't have just added as DLC to Destiny 1. Nothing they have added to the Xbox/PS4 version of the game is new other than just content.

I got about as far as you did before stopping OP, and it's been pretty good thus far. I still have a lot of room for improvement when it comes to staying out of harm's way. The difficulty level seems just about right. Thus far I've found any weapon with bleed to be top-tier. Probably haven't seen enough just yet to get a proper estimation of the game's overall lasting appeal, but I could see myself sinking a good number of hours into it, especially once it's 100% complete.
I don't really get the Dark Souls comparisons at all. It doesn't play anything like Souls and unless I missed something I don't think you can even retrieve your corpse.

1: Feeling of helplessness. First time making it to blighttown swamp bonfire captures this well. No way back but where you came from.
2: Expansiveness. It was so big I still get lost and turned around when I replay it.
3: Say what you want about how it ruins PVP, the responsiveness of the rolling is really satisfying after playing the first two games. It also makes the boss battles feel like less of a slog. Best combat hands down.

1: You can get nearly any kind of character up and running very early relative to the other two games. An early or midgame sorceror in DS1 is a million times better than the same thing in DS2.
2: Power stancing.
3: Early area design. Not even funny how much better it is than the other two games.

Hopes or fears about the game? I wish there is a vertical element in the maps, that is too rarely done in fps-games. In ss1 you got the flying boots but they were not utilized that much.

Got more of those new concepts? They look more SS1 than SS2, may be because SS3 takes place on citadel station (confirmed on starbreeze stream, it's damaged but not completely destroyed)
Meanwhile new SS1 reboot concepts look more realistic than kickstarter demo
