Personally, I don't hate it, but I find it to be extremely overrated, similar to Nier, Dark Souls, Persona series, etc. All those are enjoyable games, of course, just like OW.

Uncharted 4 and The Last of Us had fun online modes. That Ratchet and Clank reboot was complete shit compared to the original.

Except the Uncharted games and TLOU are great and Ratchet and Clank is tired and done to death.

I liked it. 4chan nowadays seems to hate on thing a lot more than like things. It's getting kinda boring. And all these threads always start with a list of all the subjective complaints that they can get their hands on from random users. I swear this "you lied to me /v/" shit is getting annoying. Nobody fucking lied, it's all subjective taste. It's fun to play and engaging enough for me not to be bored with it, like most games. That's pretty good in my book. I feel that people also expect too much from games. This was a AA game from a guy who makes really niche and not well received games. Of course most people aren't going to like it. But parts of the story were pretty cool and the combat was decent enough. I see this shifty type of post on zelda threads too and I wonder, why bother. Why do you think anyone cares how buttmad you are about the game not being perfect.

I miss a lot of the arcadey sports games like NBA Street and NFL Blitz.

The only problem I have with sports games these days is how many microtransactions they shove into them. Just make the damn games F2P already.

It's a few reasons in my opinion.

1. Elitism. Sports games have largely been adopted by and are now associated with casual gamers, non-gamers, jocks/meatheads, etc. and 'hardcore' gamers don't want to associate themselves with them.

2. Sports games have largely stagnated and have become too commercialized. There's very little variation in sports games, they all try to be as realistic as possible. Very few go for that arcadey experience anymore.

3. Once you've played one, you've played them all mentality which is both justified and unjustified. There's only so much you can do with Basketball or Football or Hockey before it gets boring to a lot of people so a lot of people will write off games automatically for that reason. Up to the PS2 era though, there was a fair bit of variety in the games though. Not all the games were that serious sim experience, some were goofy or had interesting gimmicks to change it up. It comes to #2 where it's just kind of stagnated.

These the best sports games. A issue with the later ones is that they are too slow. Compare bBlitz from 5th gen to 6th gen. More animations, transitions, and loading. They are still fun to play, but more animations makes them too slow. This is a time when short, cheap motions and less data works better for the game. New Blitz or Jam will probably be packed with little things that makes the actual game slower, which is unfortunate.

San Andreas, which is all popular 90s music tracks. Not hard to remember.

How is it compared to GalCiv2 or Moo2?

Is it just me being a noob and taking ages to adjust or is this game really slow?

I'm enjoying it but I just feel like it's taking so long to settle a second world let alone get anywhere meaningful, maybe I'm spending too much time at normal speed or paused?

You're spending too much time in normal speed. I usually have it on fastest or fast in wartime. The only time I have it on normal is when I load a save.
