You know what, I enjoyed that game, but I wouldn't say it's exactly great.
It's short as FUCK. Like indie walking simulator short - only takes 2-3 hours to beat. The enemy variety is pretty poor, some weapons are just plain inferior to the others, there's only like two proper bosses in the entire game.

Most levels in Mario 64 were boring and grosly unimaginative. The Crash series looked better and more diverse in it's level design. Super Mario Sunshine was a lot better with vibrant colors and fun level design.

It's the new game from the dudes that made Bastion and Transistor, so I'll definitely check it out.
