This is the history of role-playing games:
>evolved out of -improvisational- theatre
>games where players -choose- their characterisation and actions/narrative outcomes
>Dungeons & Dragons (1974), combines role-playing with the =statistical= rules of war-gaming, so that battles can be more objective and strategical
>The first Computer RPGs: Akalabeth (1980), Wizardry (1981) weren't actually role-playing games but strategy games, they only incorporated the statistical/battle element with dungeon exploration
>Fallout (1997), Planescape: Torment (1999), The Elder Scrolls, are the same but with more elaborate exploration, dialogue, and story paths
>and that's the extent of the WRPG: strategy games with a few choices
>>For the JRPG:
>>The CRPGs got popular in Japan before the actual (table-top, LARP, etc) role-playing games
>>therefore they confused statistics for role-playing itself
>>the extent of the JRPG?: shallow strategy games that focus on the juvenile plots, characterisation, FMVs, and soundtracks; culminating in 'Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within', a single 106-minute-long cutscene JRPG
>>>The exception to this sad history of the CRPG is Deus Ex, which has a plot as developed as any linear action game, but yet can be stretched to accommodate a variety of roles chosen by the player, compared to the shallow multiple-choices of WRPGs and the dearth of choices in JRPGS.
I see you haven't played many cRPGs
Who cares?
>>378363209
From Akalabeth to Skyrim, not much has changed in regards to role-playing opportunities.
>tfw your little cousin who looked up to you as a role model grows detached from you and develops terrible taste
can't help but feel responsible
truly a tragedy
now this is just irredeemable
what have i done?
>>378362776
Fuck off this is much better than developing a taste in something like fucking Call of Duty, Gears of War, or NBA 2kwhatever. This is leaps and bounds better. It actually requires some skill and thinking, and he learns to deal with criticism and opposition earlier in life.
I'm a Dota player too. I don't even like league and even I can tell you this.
Why is MOBA shit the most popular for esports?
Fighting games and shooters deserve it so much more.
Because it's not shit. Shooting and fighting games can't even compare.
the FGC won't be that big because they refuse to throw away their grass roots tendencies, IE: they won't be politically correct just for the sake of viewers or more money, even if that is stupid to some.
the only reason mobas became so big is because riot basically shilled themselves out the ass to twitch and shoved esports super fucking hard by getting big venues for their tournaments, thus became more visible, dota 2 kinda rides on riots coattails in the sense that dota 2 became more popular as a result of leagues popularity.
shooters are at least more popular than fighting games, though I doubt they will surpass assfaggots.
>>378362727
Team sports are more popular than solo sports so fightan games lose on that part. Shooters are just poor viewer experience IMO and current shooters are ass. CS? Overwatch? No thanks.
ITT: video game characters that are literally perfect.
>inb4 people complain that he's OP
>>378362510
I want to lick his nose!
>>378362510
He's finally at a point where the only people who should fall for his hooks are idiots
Is it a good game?
As just a slowish, dark, atmospheric game. Yea it's alright but if you want the DOOMâ„¢ experience then no
of course it is
it's just not "Doom"
It's a decent "spooky" fps
It's a bad Doom game
Heroes > Adventure 1 > Adventure 2 > Shadow
>>378362241
Switch Heroes and Adventu--Actually nevermind, Heroes is the ideal 3D Sonic game.It would benefit from having a hub-world, though
>>378362241
This rating is exclusively for the Adventure Storyline, right? Else Generations or Colors would be above of every other 3D Sonic.
Adventure gets too much shit the past years. It's better than A2 (where the only good levels are the Shadow and Sonic ones, the rest is constantly on the level of the worst levels in A1), that's for sure.
Shadow the Hedgehog is horrible, agreed, as far as I remember they programmed it on the same engine as GTA III, which explains why Shadow the Hedgehog is like it is. I have nothing against edgyness in a Sonic Game and I like the Soundtrack, but the whole game is visually boring and really really bad written. Adventure 2 has at least, except for the plot holes every game has, a nice Story and visuals, Shadow the Hedgehog is just gray and have Guns.
SA1 = SA2 > Heroes >>>>>>>>>>> Shadow
Did I miss anything?
>>378362226
forgot "Video Games".
>>378362226
Where the fuck is Tomba 2.
>>378362586
This, but also Samus/Metroid
OH MY GOD SMASH MELE IS ON THE NINTENDO FUCKING SWITCH
>>378362128
rumor?
until big n says so at e3, i dont care
>>378362279
melee is already confirmed on switch. The only thing we don't know is how good the port is. There are some dreamers that think it might get some online functionality added but that's really unlikely
>>378362448
Nah. If Melee does come to the Switch, it'll be a direct port of the Gamecube version with no additional bells and whistles other than the usual Virtual Console perks (save states, posting snapshots to social media, etc.).
I havent played these since Black Flag, which I loved. Have I missed anything since then?
>>378362087
You missed two games you fucking mong, it's not much.
>>378362087
Unity was boring
Syndicate was alright but also got boring
The entire series is boring, but black flag was great
>>378362087
if you liked black flag, try to find Rogue. it's fun.
skip unity. the controls feel sluggish and terrible.
i just picked up syndicate on the ongoing ps sale for 20 dollaroos, it's decent as fuck. not perfect, but controls really well,
Trapt, for PS2.Haven't played it, tho. But i happen to know about it.
i loved this game but i never finished it
I would tell you but it's so obscure that I haven't even heard of it.
>>378361867
Its fucking garbage, and i remember beating the game in an hour and a half hours
>>378361848
Stop shilling
