But I would say this extends to things like map design, too.
Look at some of the maps from Starcraft Brood War, for example - asymmetrical, interesting, and many different ways to approach enemies. Compare that to Starcraft 2 maps - symmetrical and more balanced, I guess, but boring in comparison, and leaves a lot less to explore in terms of play-style and trying new, interesting strategies.

Why is this game so much fun to me, /v/? I just recently revisited this game and almost got suckered into playing Tennis. The one game in this title that I used to always play. How am I having this much fun with a fucking tech demo?!!!
I also used to love and from what I just played still love is boxing and even bowling once I got the hang of it even though that was the most popular one it seemed and I never liked it that much.

Maybe you could consider for a second the possibility that you just have different tastes and /v/ isnt just there to troll you. Super Metroid is a beloved game but you need to put yourself into a certain perspective since it's a 1994 game. Also, consider the impact it had on speedrunning.
