This game is just fun, i love it to bits

They're all grind, lootbox, paywall, and basically not worth your time.

Only good mobile game imo is FFBE. It's grindy, but theres no paywall and the grind is enjoyable.

Did you get the Sneaky Upgrade patch? It really fixes a whole lot in the game.

Thief 3 is Sneaky Upgrade mega patch is actually a good game.

Your thoughts on the movement/clunk is exactly how I felt when I played Deadly Shadows for the first time after coming off of a Thief 1 & 2 high. Utterly fucking disappointing. Everything is so janky and it just plain feels awful. To make matters worse the movement is also littered with bugs like landing from a jump and being stuck in a sliding state, unable to jump again until you fall from something.

I absolutely HATED Deadly Shadows when I first played it, the memers really overrated the cradle and even if that level was the best thing in the series (protip it's not) it can't ever hope to save the game from the mediocrity that it is.

And then I played Thi4f. Thi4f made me find a new appreciation for Deadly Shadows. If you think the tone of Deadly Shadows feels different from T1/T2 then just wait til you see that shit.

I downloaded that, I enabled everything it came with but it ended up changing the game pretty drastically. For example, instead of difficulty levels, there were these weird options that changed subtle things about the mission, e.g. don't kill anyone, but the combat difficulty and alertness stayed the same. I think that was the "Thief 3 Gold" mod. I could disable that and try with the rest, but for the moment I decided to leave mods for a while and play the main game.

I've progressed a little, got to the first Hammer temple, but I'm not really enjoying it. I'll have to try a different combination of mods.

Even if you wanted a switch right now there's a manufacturing shortage and the only ones you can find are scalpers selling them at a bloated price. Just get the New 2DS for now, it's cheap and you got a fuckton of games to choose from, and then sometime in the holidays go get a nice Switch bundle.
