Disarmament is absolutely going to be the key to unlocking chapter 3, and whatever crazy nonsense that may or may not exist beyond that like the "real MGS5" or "Silent Hills".

But the thing is, disarmament was never going to be achieved naturally. There are fundamental flaws in the FOB system involving blockades that disallow it.

This is intentional! Disarmament will only be achievable when "they" want it to be, and this is because there is a certain date that is planned to end the meta-game. The progression of weapon technologies, the "arms race" we've been experiencing, supports this conclusion. It has only gotten more and more difficult to retrieve and disarm nukes as the game goes on.

It feels like a demonstration of the futility of what we're actually doing, here. Endless cycles of warfare and revenge bolstered by ever increasing technological capabilities pursuing an objective that is functionally impossible to achieve. "The definition of madness is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result"; made manifest.

Really, Konami just wants us to keep doing micro-transactions. They're basically war profiteers, don't you see? They don't want the war to stop. Kojima managed to marry their profit driven nature to the thematic underpinning of the meta-game! Isn't it devious?
