There was a time when Harvest Moon, Azure Dreams, and so on had a reputation for only losers playing them. The idea that you would spend your time with a fake relationship, which somebody wrote out just to pander to you, was fairly defeatist when compared to actually attempting a real relationship.

And now, fake video game relationships are all the rage.

Maybe that says something about people today.

Majority of /v/ are in the 16 - 22 range so they were raised with 6th gen consoles. GCN in particular was the underdog console that gen and was snubbed by 3rd parties so the library has a lot more exclusivity than the PS2/Xbox. It's the perfect mix of nostalgia and hipster for most of /v/ to jerk off to.
