First Risen is "Gothic made right" in my opinion. I disliked first two Gothics for their clunky controls, interface and combat. Game felt too amateur to be playable for me and I always considered Morrowind to be superior to any Gothic title.

Risen 2 is considered crappy but I never played it.

Risen 3 is meh game, 5/10 or 6/10 - playable but there are better games unless you are starving for this type. Can be also called "Rolling Lords" since combat is best fought utilizing massive ammounts of rolls and dodges since blocks only save you from half of attacks. Wolrd is also cut into islands so actual gameplay zone is smaller.

I would get first Risen, tho. Its very solid and fun game. But again, I say this as somebody who disliked first two Gothics and everytime I voice this opinion, people on /v/ tells me to kill myself. Decide for yourself.

I expected absolutely nothing good from XIII. Yet I was positively surprised, and its sequels became some of the best games in the series.

I gotta disagree. I literally beat the game for the first time last week, and put some 100h to my very first playthrough as well. It has a neat plot, cast and all, but there's sooo little of it behind all those mundane open-world fetch & hunt quests. Yeah, camping and driving around is comfy, but you can literally run through the story sections in an evening, and after a dozen or two hours of just looking for coins or killing big birds, the golden line is easily lost.

That's the whole point. It was just a truly awful console that never could pick up speed despite the games arriving on it. Nothing could save it, it was Nintendoomed from the start.

It's an amazing console, I fucking love my WiiU. But that name and initial launch/prelaunch marketing forever doomed the fucking thing

Once the public perceives your console as a failure, it's over. No one wants to buy a failed console. It's why they've shipped so few Switchs. It's better that it's sold out than on shelves making people wonder if it's popular or not
