I appreciate they added the horror back in, but doing a complete reboot with completely new characters and being disconnected from prior events felt... disingenuous.

There is nothing wrong with the OG characters. They just need to be in good games and the devs should look towards the earlier games for inspiration, particularly REmake and RE2, where tension and zombie and creature designs were top tier.

RE4 reinvented the series and it did it admirably; the only shame is that they couldn't competently use the framework it provided for the sequel games (RE5 was basically RE4 in co-op mode, and RE6 was all kinds of hot garbage, while the REV games feel more like bland iterations of 4 with simplefied combat and level designs).

Well first its not a reboot and frankly RE needed to do something new disconnected from the usual RE stuff.
Plus its almost impossible to make a scary RE game with the old cast their all far too overpowered now to be scared playing as them.

I don't think GTA VI will happen for a long time. The situation with Rockstar now reminds me of Valve - they make acclaimed singleplayer games for some years, then they discover how much more money multiplayer only games make and focus their efforts solely on those
