Rome I and Medieval II are the best. Modern Total Wars are very different in that theyre much more streamlined. Warhammer, Shogun 2 and Empire/Napoopan are all fine.
If you really like Warhammer, you might as well try total warhams. Just keep in mind half the factions including Chaos are DLC.

Rome 1, Medeival 2 and Shogun 2 are all top tier. Atillia, Warhammer are both good. The rest are meh like the classic first 2 games or bad like rome 2even though most of what made it awful has been fixed.If you can only get one probbaly medeival 2 if you want a more classic game with crap ton of mods or shogun 2 if you want a very pretty modern game.

It's often a waste of money and you could achieve the same, if not even more, if you made it simpler on smaller scale locations.
One of the reasons why i liked NieR: Automata was because map was more like older games where you go to certain locations in order and unlock shortcuts to them which made the story way more tight. In an open world game this would be impossible.

someone needs to teach nintendo how to make a hard mode:
>Flurry Rush wasn't disabled
>your still allowed to carry a billion fairies
>enemies can see you from farther away yes, but they'll still stare at you like retards until the question mark goes away
>enemy AI is unchanged for the most part (only Guardians got a change in their laser firing behavior)
>Gold Lynels are just Silver Lynels but peed on, no new attacks, and no immunity to arrow stun
>Trial of the Sword is a nice addition but even it was half-assed (missing some enemies like Yigas,Molduga,etc; casualizes the last floors by giving you ancient arrows)
>switching weapons and the pause screen still freezes Time around you
>divine beasts still lack enemies
>didnt change up any of the bosses attacks or their AI, just gave them the same boring health regen
>the Extra Outfits just do the same thing as outfits you can already get in the game, which is stupid because you're PAYING for them. Why not give the Tingle outfit Day Speed UP for example??
Master Mode is just not much different than regular normal BOTW, They literally just added a Lynel to the Great Plateau, tied some Octoroks to wooden planks and called it a day.
