How should realism in games be strived? Do mechanics like hunger, gun jamming and weapon breaking provide challenge?

Usually it amounts to nothing more than random annoyances and micro-management that does nothing but hamper any actual attempts at skill. Realism is over-rated, as long as the experience is believable, I'm fine with my character not eating, sleeping or having to take a shit.

Not really a bad thing.
KH2 had way too much shit that might as well be filler. Atlantica might as well not exist, Disney Castle is 3 rooms that you see for a few minutes until you return for LW, Prides Land is 90% big empty steppe etc.
Only Tron and Halloween Town and maybe Mulan were done well from the Disney worlds
